In this paper, we propose a data-adaptive non-parametric kernel learning framework in margin based kernel methods. In model formulation, given an initial kernel matrix, a data-adaptive matrix with two constraints is imposed in an entry-wise scheme. Learning this data-adaptive matrix in a formulation-free strategy enlarges the margin between classes and thus improves the model flexibility. The introduced two constraints are imposed either exactly (on small data sets) or approximately (on large data sets) in our model, which provides a controllable trade-off between model flexibility and complexity with theoretical demonstration. In algorithm optimization, the objective function of our learning framework is proven to be gradient-Lipschitz continuous. Thereby, kernel and classifier/regressor learning can be efficiently optimized in a unified framework via Nesterov's acceleration. For the scalability issue, we study a decomposition-based approach to our model in the large sample case. The effectiveness of this approximation is illustrated by both empirical studies and theoretical guarantees. Experimental results on various classification and regression benchmark data sets demonstrate that our non-parametric kernel learning framework achieves good performance when compared with other representative kernel learning based algorithms.

In continuum one-dimensional space, a coupled directed continuous time random walk model is proposed, where the random walker jumps toward one direction and the waiting time between jumps affects the subsequent jump. In the proposed model, the Laplace-Laplace transform of the probability density function P (x, t) of finding the walker at position x at time t is completely determined by the Laplace transform of the probability density function (t) of the waiting time. In terms of the probability density function of the waiting time in the Laplace domain, the limit distribution of the random process and the corresponding evolving equations are derived. © 2014 Long Shi et al.

MSC Codes 54H30, 68U10, 94A08Remote sensing images are essential for many applications of the earth’s sciences, but their quality can usually be degraded due to limitations in sensor technology and complex imaging environments. To address this, various remote sensing image deblurring methods have been developed to restore sharp and high-quality images from degraded observational data. However, most traditional model-based deblurring methods usually require predefined hand-crafted prior assumptions, which are difficult to handle in complex applications. On the other hand, deep learning-based deblurring methods are often considered as black boxes, lacking transparency and interpretability. In this work, we propose a new blind deblurring learning framework that utilizes alternating iterations of shrinkage thresholds. This framework involves updating blurring kernels and images, with a theoretical foundation in network design. Additionally, we propose a learnable blur kernel proximal mapping module to improve the accuracy of the blur kernel reconstruction. Furthermore, we propose a deep proximal mapping module in the image domain, which combines a generalized shrinkage threshold with a multi-scale prior feature extraction block. This module also incorporates an attention mechanism to learn adaptively the importance of prior information, improving the flexibility and robustness of prior terms, and avoiding limitations similar to hand-crafted image prior terms. Consequently, we design a novel multi-scale generalized shrinkage threshold network (MGSTNet) that focuses specifically on learning deep geometric prior features to enhance image restoration. Experimental results on real and synthetic remote sensing image datasets demonstrate the superiority of our MGSTNet framework compared to existing deblurring methods. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Theory of polygonal phases self-assembled from T-shaped liquid crystalline molecules

Extensive experimental studies have shown that numerous ordered phases can be formed via the self-assembly of T-shaped liquid crystalline molecules (TLCMs) composed of a rigid backbone, two flexible end chains and a flexible side chain. However, a comprehensive understanding of the stability and formation mechanisms of these intricately nanostructured phases remains incomplete. Here we fill this gap by carrying out a theoretical study of the phase behaviour of TLCMs. Specifically, we construct phase diagrams of TLCMs by computing the free energy of different ordered phases of the system. Our results reveal that the number of polygonal edges increases as the length of side chain or interaction strength increases, consistent with experimental observations. The theoretical study not only reproduces the experimentally observed phases and phase transition sequences, but also systematically analyzes the stability mechanism of the polygonal phases. Federated learning-based model marketplaces have the potential to securely leverage healthcare data for efficient healthcare transactions. However, the willingness to participate in this marketplace is severely hindered by self-interested model sellers, who maximize their personal gains via distorting the quality of their models. To this end, we propose a rePutation-driven hierArchical inCentive mEchanism, called PACE, which combines contract cooperation and game pricing to motivate model sellers to be honest, thereby improving the sustainability of the model marketplace via two-layer cooperation. Specifically, at the training layer, we design a reward payment rule based on multidimensional contracts, while at the trading layer, we use a competitive market pricing game to develop the accuracy pricing rule. In particular, the above rules cleverly combine the fine-grained model sellers' reputations with the willingness of healthcare devices to indirectly affect the model sellers' utilities. Theoretically, we prove that PACE can effectively incentivize model sellers to truthfully report model quality while satisfying both individual rationality and incentive compatibility with a fairness guarantee. Experimental results conducted on four real-world datasets show that our PACE improves the global performance by up to 12.85% and reduces the global loss by at least 19.23% compared with the state-of-the-art baselines. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

To tackle this challenge, the Schrödingerisation method can be employed, which converts linear partial and ordinary differential equations with non-unitary dynamics into systems of Schrödinger-type equations, via the so-called warped phase transformation that maps the equation into one higher dimension. Despite advancements in Schrödingerisation techniques, the explicit implementation of quantum circuits for solving general PDEs, especially with physical boundary conditions, remains underdeveloped. We present two methods for handling the inhomogeneous terms arising from time-dependent physical boundary conditions. One approach utilizes Duhamel's principle to express the solution in integral form and employs linear combination of unitaries (LCU) for coherent state preparation. Another method applies an augmentation to transform the inhomogeneous problem into a homogeneous one. We then apply the quantum simulation technique from [CJL23] to transform the resulting non-autonomous system to an autonomous system in one higher dimension. We provide detailed implementations of these two methods and conduct a comprehensive complexity analysis in terms of queries to the time evolution input oracle. © 2024, The Authors. In this paper, we derive a novel recovery type a posteriori error estimation of the Crank-Nicolson finite element method for the Cahn-Hilliard equation. To achieve this, we employ both the elliptic reconstruction technique and a time reconstruction technique based on three time-level approximations, resulting in an optimal a posteriori error estimator. We propose a time-space adaptive algorithm that utilizes the derived a posteriori error estimator as error indicators. Multifractal analyses of daily rainfall time series in Pearl River basin of China

The multifractal properties of daily rainfall time series at the stations in Pearl River basin of China over periods of up to 45 years are examined using the universal multifractal approach based on the multiplicative cascade model and the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA). The results from these two kinds of multifractal analyses show that the daily rainfall time series in this basin have multifractal behavior in two different time scale ranges. It is found that the empirical multifractal moment function K ( q ) of the daily rainfall time series can be fitted very well by the universal multifractal model (UMM). The estimated values of the conservation parameter H from UMM for these daily rainfall data are close to zero indicating that they correspond to conserved fields. After removing the seasonal trend in the rainfall data, the estimated values of the exponent h ( 2 ) from MF-DFA indicate that the daily rainfall time series in Pearl River basin exhibit no long-term correlations. It is also found that K ( 2 ) and elevation series are negatively correlated. It shows a relationship between topography and rainfall variability.

Most studies in dynamic multi-objective optimization have predominantly focused on rapidly and accurately tracking changes in the Pareto optimal front (POF) and Pareto optimal set (POS) when the environment undergoes changes. However, there are real-world scenarios where it is necessary to simultaneously solve changing objective functions and satisfy the preference of Decision Makers (DMs). In particular, the DMs may be only interested in a partial region of the POF, known as the region of interest (ROI), rather than requiring the entire POF. To meet the challenge of simultaneously predicting a changing POF and/or POS and dynamic ROI, this paper proposes a new dynamic multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (DMOEAs) based on the preference. The proposed algorithm consists of three key components: an evolutionary direction adjustment strategy based on changing reference points to accommodate shifts in preferences, an angle-based search strategy for tracking the varying ROI, and a hybrid prediction strategy that combines linear prediction models and population manifold estimation within the ROI to ensure convergence and distribution in scenarios where preferences remain unchanged. Experimental studies conducted on 16 widely used benchmark problems and empirical results demonstrate the significant advantages of the proposed algorithm over existing state-of-the-art DMOEAs. © 2024, The Authors.
