A high-order symplectic FDTD (SFDTD) framework for solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation is established. The third-order symplectic integrators and fourth-order collocated differences are employed in the time and space domains, respectively. The stabilities and numerical dispersions of FDTD(2,2), higher-order FDTD(2,4), and SFDTD(3,4) schemes are analyzed. We found that the stability limit of the SFDTD(3,4) scheme can be larger than that of the traditional FDTD(2,2) method through careful optimization of symplectic integrators. Moreover, the SFDTD(3,4) scheme and the FDTD(2,4) approach show better numerical dispersions than the traditional FDTD(2,2) method.

The propagation environment of electromagnetic waves in mine tunnels is confined areas. The mine tunnel is regard as wave-guide which contains kinds of un-beneficial medium, the field formulas of different polarization waves were presented based on Marcatili method, and field prediction of horizontal and vertical polarization waves were simulated. The results showed that propagation effect of vertical polarization waves was better than horizontal polarization wave in mine tunnels of breadth less than height, contrarily propagation attenuation of horizontal polarization waves were higher than vertical polarization waves in mine tunnels of height less than breadth, at the same time the field distribution would be influenced because of section dimension change.

We analyzed the seismic waveforms from the December 26, 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake recorded at broadband seismic stations in western Europe. Previous studies involving of the beam-forming technique and high frequency analysis suggest that the earthquake ruptured with a duration of around 500 s. This very long duration makes P wave overlap with later arrivals such as PP wave, which follows P in about 200 s. Since P waves are crucial for modeling earthquake processes, we propose an iterative method to separate P and PP waveforms. The separated P waveform confirms a second large energy release around 300 s after the initial rupture. The iterative signal separation technique is particularly useful for mixed signals that are not independent and the number of recording stations far exceeds number of mixed signal sources.
