If S is a transitive metric space, then |C|·|A| ≤ |S| for any distanced code C and a set A, "anticode", of diameter less than d. For every Steiner S(t, k, n) system S, we show the existence of a q-ary constant-weight code C of length n, weight k (or n − k), and distance d = 2k − t + 1 (respectively, d = n − t + 1) and an anticode A of diameter d−1 such that the pair (C, A) attains the code–anticode bound and the supports of the codewords of C are the blocks of S (respectively, the complements of the blocks of S). With the diversified development of the digital devices, such as computer, mobile phone and television, how to resize an image or video to adapt to different display screens has been a heated topic. Seam carving does well in image resizing at most times, however, it sometimes produces discontinuity image content or impaired salient objects. Therefore, we propose an accumulative energy-based seam carving method for image resizing. We distribute the energy of each pixel on the seam to its adjacent 8-connected pixels to avoid the extreme concentration of seams. In addition, we add the image saliency and the edge information into the energy function to reduce the distortion. To compute more efficiently, we use parallel computing environment as well. Experimental results show that compared with the existing methods, our method can both avoid the discontinuity of image content and distortions as well as better maintain the shape of the salient objects. © 2020 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

With regard to distance measurement in daily life, the traditional way is to measure the distance between objects through rulers. Nowadays, ultrasonic ranging, laser ranging, radar ranging, sonar ranging and other technologies have enriched the way of distance measurement. At the same time, it is possible to choose a suitable solution according to different actual environments. This paper design an intelligent ultrasonic ranging system through the research of ultrasonic characteristics and the application of existing ultrasonic ranging. The paper introduces the design ideas and process of the intelligent ultrasonic ranging system. Through the design of independent buttons, the normal mode ranging and the high-precision mode ranging are generated to achieve the division of the measurement range and accuracy. When the distance between the measured object and the intelligent ultrasonic ranging system is less than the preset value or exceeds the range of this mode, the buzzer will sound an alarm, so that the system can be used in more fields. The system detects the current ambient temperature in real time, so that the distance measurement can be compensated and modified by the temperature compensation algorithm in the system to achieve self-adaptation and reduce measurement errors.

An adaptive offloading framework for Android applications in mobile edge computing

Mobile edge computing(MEC) provides a fresh opportunity to significantly reduce the latency and battery energy consumption of mobile applications. It does so by enabling the offloading of parts of the applications on mobile edges, which are located in close proximity to the mobile devices. Owing to the geographical distribution of mobile edges and the mobility of mobile devices, the runtime environment of MEC is highly complex and dynamic. As a result, it is challenging for application developers to support computation offloading in MEC compared with the traditional approach in mobile cloud computing, where applications use only the cloud for offloading. On the one hand, developers have to make the offloading adaptive to the changing environment, where the offloading should dynamically occur among available computation *** the other hand, developers have to effectively determine the offloading scheme each time the environment changes. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an adaptive framework that supports mobile applications with offloading capabilities in MEC. First, based on our previous study(DPartner), a new design pattern is proposed to enable an application to be dynamically offloaded among mobile devices, mobile edges,and the cloud. Second, an estimation model is designed to automatically determine the offloading *** this model, different parts of the application may be executed on different computation nodes. Finally, an adaptive offloading framework is implemented to support the design pattern and the estimation model. We evaluate our framework on two real-world applications. The results demonstrate that our approach can aid in reducing the response time by 8%–50% and energy consumption by 9%–51% for computation-intensive applications.

We propose an Ekblom promoting adaptive algorithm (EPAA) which uses Ekblom norm to construct a data reusing scheme to achieve better performance under impulsive noise (IN) environments. By exerting Ekblom-norm constraint on the a posterior error vector, a sliding window cost function is created to realize the EPAA that is derived to reduce IN effects. The derivation and theoretical convergence analysis of the EPAA are presented in detail. The simulation examples are setup to illustrate the superior performance of the EPAA compared to popular data reusing algorithms for system identification under IN environments. © 2022, CC BY.

A linear code is linear complementary dual (LCD) if it meets its dual trivially. LCD codes have been a hot topic recently due to Boolean masking application in the security of embarked electronics (Carlet and Guilley, 2014). Additive codes over F4 are F4-codes that are stable by codeword addition but not necessarily by scalar multiplication. An additive code over F4 is additive complementary dual (ACD) if it meets its dual trivially. The aim of this research is to study such codes which meet their dual trivially. All the techniques and problems used to study LCD codes are potentially relevant to ACD codes. Interesting constructions of ACD codes from binary codes are given with respect to the trace Hermitian and trace Euclidean inner product. Recent advances in spatial transcriptomics have enabled the comprehensive measurement of transcriptional profiles while retaining the spatial contextual information. Identifying spatial domains is a critical step in the analysis of spatially resolved transcriptomics. Existing unsupervised methods perform poorly on this task owing to the large amount of noise and dropout events in the transcriptomic profiles. To address this problem, we first extend an unsupervised algorithm to a supervised learning method that can identify useful features and reduce noise hindrance. Second, inspired by the classical convolution in convolutional neural networks (CNNs), we designed a regular hexagonal convolution to compensate for the missing gene expression patterns from adjacent nodes. Compared with the graph convolution in graph neural networks (GNNs), our hexagonal convolution can preserve the relative spatial location information of different nodes in graph-structured data. Third, based on the hexagonal convolution, a novel hexagonal Convolutional Neural Network (hexCNN) is proposed for spatial transcriptomics classification. Finally, we compared the proposed hexCNN with existing methods on the DLPFC dataset. The results show that hexCNN achieves a classification accuracy of 87.2% and an average Rand index (ARI) of 78.2% (1.9% and 3.3% higher than those of GNNs).

In this work, we study the nucleation of quasicrystals from liquid or periodic crystals by developing an efficient order-order phase transition algorithm, namely the nullspace-preserving saddle search method. Specifically, we focus on nucleation and phase transitions of the decagonal quasicrystal (DQC) based on the Lifshitz-Petrich model. We present the nucleation path of DQC from the liquid and demonstrate one- and two-stage transition paths between DQC and periodic crystals. We provide a perspective of the group-subgroup phase transition and nucleation rates to understand the nucleation and phase transition mechanisms involving DQC. These results reveal the one-step and stepwise modes of symmetry breaking or recovery in the phase transition from DQC, where the stepwise modes are more probable. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. The sparse interactions between users and items have aggravated the difficulty of their representations in recommender systems. Existing methods leverage tags to alleviate the sparsity problem but ignore prevalent logical relations among items and tags (e.g., membership, hierarchy, and exclusion), which can be leveraged to enhance the accuracy of modeling user preferences and conducting recommendations. To this end, we propose to extract logical relations among item tags from existing tag taxonomies and exploit the individual strengths of the Poincaré and the Lorentz models in hyperbolic space for logical relation modeling towards enhanced recommendations. Moreover, we find that the logical relations directly extracted from existing tag taxonomies can be inaccurate and coarse. Therefore, we further devise innovative consistency-based and granularity- based weighting mechanisms based on user behavior patterns for data-driven logical relation mining that can be jointly optimized along with recommendations in an end-to-end fashion. Extensive experiments on four real-world benchmark datasets show drastic performance gains brought by our proposed framework, which constantly achieves an average of 8.25% improvement over state-of-the-art competitors regarding both Recall and NDCG metrics. Insightful case studies further demonstrate that our automatically refined logical relations are highly accurate and interpretable.

Recently, deep learning methods have gained remarkable achievements in the field of image restoration for remote sensing (RS). However, most existing RS image restoration methods focus mainly on conventional first-order degradation models, which may not effectively capture the imaging mechanisms of remote sensing images. Furthermore, many RS image restoration approaches that use deep learning are often criticized for their lacks of architecture transparency and model interpretability. To address these problems, we propose a novel progressive restoration network for high-order degradation imaging (HDI-PRNet), to progressively restore different image degradation. HDI-PRNet is developed based on the theoretical framework of degradation imaging, offering the benefit of mathematical interpretability within the unfolding network. The framework is composed of three main components: a module for image denoising that relies on proximal mapping prior learning, a module for image deblurring that integrates Neumann series expansion with dual-domain degradation learning, and a module for super-resolution. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance on both synthetic and real remote sensing images. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
