Maxwell-Hydrodynamic Model for Simulating Nonlinear Terahertz Generation from Plasmonic Metasurfaces

The interaction between electromagnetic field and plasmonic nanostructures leads to both strong linear and nonlinear behaviors. In this paper, a time-domain hydrodynamic model for describing the motion of electrons in plasmonic nanostructures is presented, in which both surface and bulk nonlinearity are considered. A coupled Maxwell-hydrodynamic system capturing full-wave physics and free-electron dynamics is numerically solved with the parallel finite-difference time-domain method. The validation of the proposed method is presented by simulating a plasmonic metasurface. The linear response is compared with the Drude dispersion model and the nonlinear terahertz emission from a difference-frequency generation process is theoretically analyzed. The work is fundamentally important to design nonlinear plasmonic nanodevices, especially for efficient and broadband THz emitters. © 2016 IEEE.

An Audio-Visual Whisper Database in Chinese

Converting whisper to normal vocalized speech has been a hot research topic in speech signal processing area. A complete and large scale whisper database is a major basis for this task. In this paper, we propose a multimodal whisper database in Chinese mandarin. A total of 103 syllables and 100 sentences were carefully selected. 5 male and 5 female participants pronounced the syllables and sentences in whisper and normal styles respectively, result in 4096 parallel speech utterances and 263, 849 frames of voicing face and lip image sequences. The beginning and ending sample point of each syllable were labeled both for speech signal and voicing face video. The lip region of interest were also extracted and provided in the proposed database. Experiments in various speech conversion tasks in different speech database show the effectiveness of the proposed multimodal whisper speech database.

According to the medium and long term development planning of railway networks, China will built "eight vertical and horizontal" high speed railway network during 13 th five-year. With the rapid development of mobile smart terminals, the rail dedicated communication system using GSM-R system cannot satisfy the passengers' communication requirement. As high frequency communication has been considered in 3 GPP new radio to achieve higher capacity, this paper studies the high-speed communication using 60 GHz millimeter wave. In this paper, we propose a beam switching mechanism based on train position information in high speed railway scenario. The proposed mechanism can realize fast intra-TRP/inter-TRP beam switching and the simulation result demonstrates Gigabit data rate can be provided for passengers.

Identification of splice site plays a key role for alternative splicing analysis. Many effective methods have been proposed over the past decades. However, there have still some limitations and need further improvement. In this paper, we collect splice site sequences from Homo Sapiens Splice Sites Dataset (HS3D), to transform these sequences, we use two kinds of methods to code them and then use support vector machines (SVM) as predictor. In order to reduce computational time, maximum relevance minimum redundancy (mRMR) is adopted to rank the features for finding optimal feature combination. On the donor splice site sequence data, our method achieves 92.85% accuracy, area under ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve (ROC-AUC) of 97.62%. On the acceptor splice site data, our method achieves 92.29% accuracy and 97.37% ROC-AUC. These results show that our method is effective and reliable for splice sites prediction. © 2017 ACM.

Owing to OFDM Air Interface in the whole system bandwidth only support one fixed waveform parameter, the sidelobe of rectangular pulse frequency response is bigger and the attenuation is slower, which cause that the OFDM system has a sensitive to partial differential frequency rate, high frequency spectrum leakage and large out-of-band（OOB） interference. Therefore, the conventional OFDM can not adapt to 5 G in rich business scenarios. Thus, the Filtered-OFDM（FOFDM） is proposed as a candidate technique for 5 G high-data rate wireless communication system. In order to achieve better spectrum leakage performance compared with Hamming window in F-OFDM system, this paper proposes a kind filter that uses Nuttall’s Blackman-Harris window in the F-OFDM system, and analyzes the performance of different window functions in the F-OFDM. Simulation results show that the design of F-OFDM is easy to be implemented by Nuttall’s Blackman-Harris window, which has a very low OOB emission with the same bit error rate（BER） performance compared with the F-OFDM that is based on Hamming window and the conventional OFDM.

Salient object detection aims to detect the attractive objects to human viewers in an image. In order to solve the low detection precision problem of existing algorithms, a new method based on influence updating and compactness feature is proposed. Firstly, it propagates the background information to the entire image by using influence updating algorithm and obtains the initial saliency map. Then, it introduces the compactness feature, a low-level cue of image, to obtain the compactness of regions by computing the difference of color space and location space respectively. Finally, initial saliency map is enhanced by the compactness feature and pixel-level saliency correction. Experiment results on MSRA-1000, CSSD and ECSSD databases demonstrate that the proposed method performs well against the state-of-the-art methods by fusing prior knowledges and visual cues in terms of accuracy. © 2017 IEEE.

To monitor the entire earth system, several global land cover mapping products have been produced based on different remote sensing imagery (e.g., AVHRR, MODIS, SPOT, HJ-1), including UMD Land Cover, Global Land Cover 2000, GlobCover 2009 and GlobeLand30. However, the application potential of those products has not been fully explored at a provincial scale. The primary objective of this study is to compare and investigate the potential of these products in Anhui Province, China. The area and spatial consistency were used to evaluate the four datasets based on China’s GlobeLand 30 due to 30 m spatial resolution and the total accuracy of 83.51%. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient (R) and the percentage disagreement (PD) were used to evaluate the area consistency. The spatial similarity coefficient (O) was here adopted in order to verify the accuracy of spatial positions. A total of eight cover classes including cropland, woodland, grassland, shrubland, wetland, water bodies, artificial surfaces and bareland were reclassified and mapped to perform the intercomparison. The analysis results show that the PD of GlobCover 2009 is respectively 15.36% and −8.43% for "cropland" and "woodland", while they are −20.20% and 2.10% for UMD. The "woodland" has better agreement percentage in comparison with "cropland". The O of UMD is the worst of 69.25%, indicating that the spatial consistency is weak for "cropland". Conversely, the O of GlobCover 2009 reaches up to 83.50%. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

We present an inductive powering system of a two-turns loop antenna which includes external and implanted antennas each with a cylinder magnetic core. It can wirelessly transfer power to loop antenna of a compact plane structure in cortex. Compared to single antenna without magnetic core, it can achieve highly-efficient (24.8%) wireless power transferring to implanted loop antenna and reduce the SAR to 83.2%. By improving the link power transfer efficiency and decreasing the SAR, we optimize the antenna's structural parameter. Then, we propose different liquid of concentrations to simulate human skin, which is used for power transmission experiment at 100MHz.

Direct quantification for coronary artery stenosis using multiview learning

The quantification of the coronary artery stenosis is of significant clinical importance in coronary artery diseases diagnosis and intervention treatment. It aims to quantify the morphological indices of the coronary artery lesions such as minimum lumen diameter, reference vessel diameter, lesion length and these indices are the reference of the interventional stent placement. In this study, we propose a direct multiview quantitative coronary angiography (DMQCA) model as an automatic clinical tool to quantify the coronary artery stenosis from X-ray coronary angiography images. The proposed DMQCA model consists of a multiview module with two attention mechanisms, a key-frame module and a regression module, to achieve direct accurate multiple-index estimation. The multi-view module comprehensively learns the spatio-temporal features of coronary arteries through a three-dimensional convolution. The attention mechanisms of each view focus on the subtle feature of the lesion region and capture the important context information. The keyframe module learns the subtle features of the stenosis through successive dilated residual blocks. The regression module finally generates the indice estimation from multiple features. We evaluate the proposed model over 2100 X-ray coronary angiography images collected from 105 subjects from two viewpoints. Compared to other direct quantification methods, our DMQCA model achieves more accurate quantification, enabling to provide a patient-specic assessment of coronary artery stenosis.
