Machine learning has achieved great success in many areas today, but the forecast effect of machine learning often depends on the specific problem. An ensemble learning forecasts results by combining multiple base classifiers. Therefore, its ability to adapt to various scenarios is strong, and the classification accuracy is high. In response to the low classification accuracy of the darkest source magnitude set of stars/galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), a star/galaxy classification algorithm based on the stacking ensemble learning is proposed in this paper. The complete photometric data set is obtained from the SDSS Data Release (DR) 7, and divided into the bright source magnitude set, dark source magnitude set, and darkest source magnitude set according to the stellar magnitude. Firstly, the 10-fold nested cross-validation method is used for the darkest source magnitude set, then the Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithms are used to establish the base-classifier model;the Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT) is used as the meta-classifier model. Finally, based on the classification accuracy of galaxies and other indicators, the classification results are analyzed and compared with the results obtained by the Function Tree (FT), SVM, RF, GBDT, Stacked Denoising Autoencoders (SDAE), Deep Belief Nets (DBN), and Deep Perception Decision Tree (DPDT) models. The experimental results show that the stacking ensemble learning model has improved the classification accuracy of galaxies in the darkest source magnitude set by nearly 10% compared to the function tree algorithm. Compared with other traditional machine learning algorithm, stronger lifting algorithm, and deep learning algorithm, the stacking ensemble learning model also has different degrees of improvement. © 2020

DRLO: Optimizing edge server placement in dynamic MEC scenarios using deep reinforcement learning

As an emerging computing paradigm, Mobile Edge computing (MEC) significantly enhances user experience and alleviates network congestion by strategically deploying edge servers in close proximity to mobile users. However, the effectiveness of MEC hinges on the precise placement of these edge servers, a critical factor in determining the Quality of Experience (QoE) for mobile users. While existing studies predominantly focus on optimizing edge server placement in static scenarios, they often fall short when faced with user mobility, resulting in a degradation of QoE. To address this challenge, we propose an adaptive edge server placement approach that leverages Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to select the base stations for placing edge servers in a dynamic MEC environment. Our objective is to minimize access delay by optimizing edge server placement for adapting to dynamic environment. To tackle the vast action space associated with edge server placement, we introduce a novel activation function in the actor neural network for efficient exploration. Furthermore, to enhance the adaptability of the derived edge server placement strategy, we meticulously design a new reward function, which takes into account the minimization of total access delay within dynamic MEC scenarios. Finally, to validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, extensive experiments were conducted using the Shanghai Telecom dataset. The results demonstrate that our approach outperforms baseline methods in minimizing access delay for users in dynamic MEC scenarios.

The Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations play a crucial role in modeling ion mass conservation and electrostatic diffusion in various applications, such as biological ion channels, semiconductor devices, and nanopore systems. Due to the inherent strong coupling and nonlinearity, developing robust theoretical frameworks for discrete schemes and associated fast algorithms is challenging. While the finite element method and some improved methods are widely used to solve these equations, existing theoretical analyses are insufficient, particularly regarding the existence of solutions for discrete methods or nonlinear discrete systems, and the convergence of fast algorithms. This study aims to contribute to this area by proposing a framework that includes establishing the existence of solutions for an abstract discrete scheme, which encompasses schemes such as standard finite element and edge-averaged finite element methods. We establish the existence theory for the nonlinear discrete system by carefully constructing a suitable compact convex set for the fixed-point operator and then using the Brouwer’s fixed-point theorem. Additionally, we present a convergence theory for the Gummel iteration, a commonly used iteration for the Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations, associated with our abstract discrete scheme. We further explore the theoretical results for both standard and edge-averaged finite element schemes as applications of the framework. Numerical experiments are conducted to verify the theoretical results for the Gummel iteration of these two schemes. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Converting whisper to normal vocalized speech has been a hot research topic in speech signal processing area. A complete and large scale whisper database is a major basis for this task. In this paper, we propose a multimodal whisper database in Chinese mandarin. A total of 103 syllables and 100 sentences were carefully selected. 5 male and 5 female participants pronounced the syllables and sentences in whisper and normal styles respectively, result in 4096 parallel speech utterances and 263, 849 frames of voicing face and lip image sequences. The beginning and ending sample point of each syllable were labeled both for speech signal and voicing face video. The lip region of interest were also extracted and provided in the proposed database. Experiments in various speech conversion tasks in different speech database show the effectiveness of the proposed multimodal whisper speech database. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Nowadays, the best-effort service can not guarantee the quality of service (QoS) for all kinds of services. QoS routing is an important method to guarantee QoS requirements. It involves path selection for flows based on the current network status and the performance criteria of the service requirements. However, it is difficult for proposed solutions to obtain all the available paths owing to not fully considering all the QoS parameters of paths. In this paper, we propose SWQoS, a novel, universal, and stepwise QoS guarantee scheme based on multiple QoS parameter evaluation for selecting the available paths including preferred paths, satisfied paths and reluctant paths in SDN. The experiments show that SWQoS can select all the available paths that meet the performance criteria of the service requirements and have better QoS parameter performance compared with other path selection methods. © 2021, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

The multilevel characteristic basis function method(MLCBFM)with the adaptive cross approximation(ACA)algorithm for accelerated solution of electrically large scattering problems is studied in this *** the conventional MLCBFM based on Foldy-Lax multiple scattering equations,the improvement is only made in the generation of characteristic basis functions(CBFs).However,it does not provide a change in impedance matrix filling and reducing matrix calculation procedure,which is *** reality,all the impedance and reduced matrix of each level of the MLCBFM have low-rank property and can be calculated ***,ACA is used for the efficient generation of two-level CBFs and the fast calculation of reduced matrix in this *** results are given to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the method.

The effects of gain and loss on the band structures of a bulk topological dielectric photonic crystal (PC) with C6v symmetry and the PC-air-PC interface are studied based on first-principle calculation. To illustrate the importance of parity-time (PT) symmetry, three systems are considered, namely the PT-symmetric, PT-asymmetric, and lossy systems. We find that the system with gain and loss distributed in a PT symmetric manner exhibits a phase transition from a PT exact phase to a PT broken phase as the strength of the gain and loss increases, while for the PT-asymmetric and lossy systems, no such phase transition occurs. Furthermore, based on the Wilson loop calculation, the topology of the PT-symmetric system in the PT exact phase is demonstrated to keep unchanged as the Hermitian system. At last, different kinds of edge states in Hermitian systems under the influences of gain and loss are studied and we find that while the eigenfrequencies of nontrivial edge states become complex conjugate pairs, they keep real for the trivial defect states.
