Resilient Collaborative Caching for Multi-Edge Systems with Robust Federated Deep Learning

As a key technique for future networks, the performance of emerging multi-edge caching is often limited by inefficient collaboration among edge nodes and improper resource configuration. Meanwhile, achieving optimal cache hit rates poses substantive challenges without effectively capturing the potential relations between discrete user features and diverse content libraries. These challenges become further sophisticated when caching schemes are exposed to adversarial attacks that seriously impair cache performance. To address these challenges, we introduce RoCoCache, a resilient collaborative caching framework that uniquely integrates robust federated deep learning with proactive caching strategies, enhancing performance under adversarial conditions. First, we design a novel partitioning mechanism for multi-dimensional cache space, enabling precise content recommendations in user classification intervals. Next, we develop a new Discrete-Categorical Variational Auto-Encoder (DC-VAE) to accurately predict content popularity by overcoming posterior collapse. Finally, we create an original training mode and proactive cache replacement strategy based on robust federated deep learning. Notably, the residual-based detection for adversarial model updates and similarity-based federated aggregation are integrated to avoid the model destruction caused by adversarial updates, which enables the proactive cache replacement adapting to optimized cache resources and thus enhances cache performance. Using the real-world testbed and datasets, extensive experiments verify that the RoCoCache achieves higher cache hit rates and efficiency than state-of-the-art methods while ensuring better robustness. Moreover, we validate the effectiveness of the components designed in RoCoCache for improving cache performance via ablation studies. © 1993-2012 IEEE.

In this paper,we design a collocation method to solve the fractional Ginzburg-Landau equation.A Jacobi collocation method is developed and implemented in two ***,we space-discretize the equation by the Jacobi-Gauss-Lobatto collocation(JGLC)method in one-and two-dimensional *** equation is then converted to a system of ordinary differential equations(ODEs)with the time variable based on *** second step applies the Jacobi-Gauss-Radau collocation(JGRC)method for the time ***,we give a theoretical proof of convergence of this Jacobi collocation method and some numerical results showing the proposed scheme is an effective and high-precision algorithm.

Attention-Guided Generative Adversarial Network for Whisper to Normal Speech Conversion

Whispered speech is a special way of pronunciation without using vocal cord vibration. A whispered speech does not contain a fundamental frequency, and its energy is about 20dB lower than that of a normal speech. Converting a whispered speech into a normal speech can improve speech quality and intelligibility. In this paper, a novel attention-guided generative adversarial network model incorporating an autoencoder, a Siamese neural network, and an identity mapping loss function for whisper to normal speech conversion (AGANW2SC) is proposed. The proposed method avoids the challenge of estimating the fundamental frequency of the normal voiced speech converted from a whispered speech. Specifically, the proposed model is more amendable to practical applications because it does not need to align speech features for training. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed AGANW2SC can obtain improved speech quality and intelligibility compared with dynamic-time-warping-based methods. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. The sparse interactions between users and items have aggravated the difficulty of their representations in recommender systems. Existing methods leverage tags to alleviate the sparsity problem but ignore prevalent logical relations among items and tags (e.g., membership, hierarchy, and exclusion), which can be leveraged to enhance the accuracy of modeling user preferences and conducting recommendations. To this end, we propose to extract logical relations among item tags from existing tag taxonomies and exploit the individual strengths of the Poincaré and the Lorentz models in hyperbolic space for logical relation modeling towards enhanced recommendations. Moreover, we find that the logical relations directly extracted from existing tag taxonomies can be inaccurate and coarse. Therefore, we further devise innovative consistency-based and granularity- based weighting mechanisms based on user behavior patterns for data-driven logical relation mining that can be jointly optimized along with recommendations in an end-to-end fashion. Extensive experiments on four real-world benchmark datasets show drastic performance gains brought by our proposed framework, which constantly achieves an average of 8.25% improvement over state-of-the-art competitors regarding both Recall and NDCG metrics. Insightful case studies further demonstrate that our automatically refined logical relations are highly accurate and interpretable.

Distilling Knowledge from Heterogeneous Architectures for Semantic Segmentation

Current knowledge distillation (KD) methods for semantic segmentation focus on guiding the student to imitate the teacher’s knowledge within homogeneous architectures. However, these methods overlook the diverse knowledge contained in architectures with different inductive biases, which is crucial for enabling the student to acquire a more precise and comprehensive understanding of the data during distillation. To this end, we propose for the first time a generic knowledge distillation method for semantic segmentation from a heterogeneous perspective, named HeteroAKD. Due to the substantial disparities between heterogeneous architectures, such as CNN and Transformer, directly transferring cross-architecture knowledge presents significant challenges. To eliminate the influence of architecture-specific information, the intermediate features of both the teacher and student are skillfully projected into an aligned logits space. Furthermore, to utilize diverse knowledge from heterogeneous architectures and deliver customized knowledge required by the student, a teacher-student knowledge mixing mechanism (KMM) and a teacher-student knowledge evaluation mechanism (KEM) are introduced. These mechanisms are performed by assessing the reliability and its discrepancy between heterogeneous teacher-student knowledge. Extensive experiments conducted on three main-stream benchmarks using various teacher-student pairs demonstrate that our HeteroAKD outperforms state-of-the-art KD methods in facilitating distillation between heterogeneous architectures. On the structure of 1-generator quasi-polycyclic codes over finite chain rings

Quasi-polycyclic (QP for short) codes over a finite chain ring R are a generalization of quasi-cyclic codes, and these codes can be viewed as an R[x]-submodule of Rm, where Rm := R[x]/hfi, and f is a monic polynomial of degree m over R. If f factors uniquely into monic and coprime basic irreducibles, then their algebraic structure allow us to characterize the generator polynomials and the minimal generating sets of 1-generator QP codes as R-modules. In addition, we also determine the parity check polynomials for these codes by using the strong Gröbner bases. In particular, via Magma system, some quaternary codes with new parameters are derived from these 1-generator QP codes. © 2021, CC0.

Users worldwide widely use cloud storage because of its efficiency, convenience, and high availability. Multi-cloud storage is usually selected to ensure the high availability of data. Unfortunately, when data is migrated and replicated between multi-cloud data centers, it is not easy to guarantee data con-sistency. This paper proposes an efficient, secure, and new data consistency verification scheme using blockchain technology. In order to reduce the computation and communication overhead in the verification process, our scheme uses encrypted tags to build Merkle hash tree to generate unique and lightweight verification proofs and does not use third-party auditors. The final theoretical and experimental analysis shows that our scheme has higher security and a faster verification process in multi-cloud storage.

CycleGAN with dual adversarial loss for bone-conducted speech enhancement

Compared with air-conducted speech, bone-conducted speech has the unique advantage of shielding background noise. Enhancement of bone-conducted speech helps to improve its quality and intelligibility. In this paper, a novel CycleGAN with dual adversarial loss (CycleGAN-DAL) is proposed for bone-conducted speech enhancement. The proposed method uses an adversarial loss and a cycle-consistent loss simultaneously to learn forward and cyclic mapping, in which the adversarial loss is replaced with the classification adversarial loss and the defect adversarial loss to consolidate the forward mapping. Compared with conventional baseline methods, it can learn feature mapping between bone-conducted speech and target speech without additional air-conducted speech assistance. Moreover, the proposed method also avoids the over-smooth problem which is occurred commonly in conventional statistical based models. This paper presents a type of variable rate syndrome-trellis codes (VR-STC) for bursty channels. It can embed message bits with two different embedding rates. In the embedding, a cover vector is sliced into segments, and the embedding rates for each segment depend on the local channel distribution. The parities of stego segments are exploited to indicate the selected embedding rates according to a mapping function between parities and embedding rates. The core of the VR-STC is the parity-aware encoder, which can simultaneously output two candidate stego segments with different embedding rates and opposite parities, either of which can be used to constitute the final stego vector. A Viterbi algorithm is also suggested to find the closed stego segments. Besides, the mapping function between parities and embedding rates is designed by minimizing the embedding costs on a down sampled version of the cover vector. It can further improve the undetectability of the VR-STC. Experimental results on artificial signals and binary images suggest that the proposed VR-STC can provide high success rate of embedding and reduce the embedding cost on bursty channels. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

With the diversified development of the digital devices, such as computer, mobile phone and television, how to resize an image or video to adapt to different display screens has been a heated topic. Seam carving does well in image resizing at most times, however, it sometimes produces discontinuity image content or impaired salient objects. Therefore, we propose an accumulative energy-based seam carving method for image resizing. We distribute the energy of each pixel on the seam to its adjacent 8-connected pixels to avoid the extreme concentration of seams. In addition, we add the image saliency and the edge information into the energy function to reduce the distortion. To compute more efficiently, we use parallel computing environment as well. Experimental results show that compared with the existing methods, our method can both avoid the discontinuity of image content and distortions as well as better maintain the shape of the salient objects. © 2020 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
