Recent advances in spatial transcriptomics have enabled the comprehensive measurement of transcriptional profiles while retaining the spatial contextual information. Identifying spatial domains is a critical step in the analysis of spatially resolved transcriptomics. Existing unsupervised methods perform poorly on this task owing to the large amount of noise and dropout events in the transcriptomic profiles. To address this problem, we first extend an unsupervised algorithm to a supervised learning method that can identify useful features and reduce noise hindrance. Second, inspired by the classical convolution in convolutional neural networks (CNNs), we designed a regular hexagonal convolution to compensate for the missing gene expression patterns from adjacent nodes. Compared with the graph convolution in graph neural networks (GNNs), our hexagonal convolution can preserve the relative spatial location information of different nodes in graph-structured data. Third, based on the hexagonal convolution, a novel hexagonal Convolutional Neural Network (hexCNN) is proposed for spatial transcriptomics classification. Finally, we compared the proposed hexCNN with existing methods on the DLPFC dataset. The results show that hexCNN achieves a classification accuracy of 87.2% and an average Rand index (ARI) of 78.2% (1.9% and 3.3% higher than those of GNNs).

A robust C0-continuous nonconforming virtual element method (VEM) is developed for a boundary value problem arising from strain gradient elasticity in two dimensions, with the family of polygonal meshes satisfying a very general geometric assumption given in Brezzi et al. (2009) and Chen and Huang (2018). The stability condition of the VEMs is derived by establishing Korn-type inequalities and inverse inequalities. Some crucial commutative relations for locking-free analysis as in elastic problems are derived. Fractal and complex network analyses of protein molecular dynamics

Based on protein molecular dynamics, we investigate the fractal properties of energy, pressure and volume time series using the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA) and the topological and fractal properties of their converted horizontal visibility graphs (HVGs). The energy parameters of protein dynamics we considered are bonded potential, angle potential, dihedral potential, improper potential, kinetic energy, Van der Waals potential, electrostatic potential, total energy and potential energy. The shape of the h ( q ) curves from MF-DFA indicates that these time series are multifractal. The numerical values of the exponent h ( 2 ) of MF-DFA show that the series of total energy and potential energy are non-stationary and anti-persistent; the other time series are stationary and persistent apart from series of pressure (with H ≈ 0.5 indicating the absence of long-range correlation). The degree distributions of their converted HVGs show that these networks are exponential. The results of fractal analysis show that fractality exists in these converted HVGs. For each energy, pressure or volume parameter, it is found that the values of h ( 2 ) of MF-DFA on the time series, exponent λ of the exponential degree distribution and fractal dimension d B of their converted HVGs do not change much for different proteins (indicating some universality). We also found that after taking average over all proteins, there is a linear relationship between 〈 h ( 2 ) 〉 (from MF-DFA on time series) and 〈 d B 〉 of the converted HVGs for different energy, pressure and volume.

The power spectra estimated from the brain recordings are the mixed representation of aperiodic transient activity and periodic oscillations, i.e., aperiodic component (AC) and periodic component (PC). Quantitative neurophysiology requires precise decomposition preceding parameterizing each component. However, the shape, statistical distribution, scale, and mixing mechanism of AC and PCs are unclear, challenging the effectiveness of current popular parametric models such as FOOOF, IRASA, BOSC, etc. Here, was proposed to decompose the neural spectra by embedding the nonparametric spectra estimation with penalized Whittle likelihood and the shape language modeling into the expectation maximization framework. was validated on the synthesized spectra with loss statistics and on the sleep EEG and the large sample iEEG with evaluation metrics and neurophysiological evidence. Compared to FOOOF, both the simulation presenting shape irregularities and the batch simulation with multiple isolated peaks indicated that improved the fit of AC and PCs with less loss and higher F1-score in recognizing the centering frequencies and the number of peaks;the sleep EEG revealed that produced more distinguishable AC exponents and improved the sleep state classification accuracy;the iEEG showed that approached the clinical findings in peak discovery. Overall, offered good performance in the spectra decomposition, which allows flexible parameterization using descriptive statistics or kernel functions. is a seminal tool for brain signal decoding in fields such as cognitive neuroscience, brain-computer interface, neurofeedback, and brain diseases. © 2013 IEEE.

Distributed Traffic Engineering in Hybrid Software Defined Networks: A Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning Framework

Traffic Engineering (TE) is an efficient technique to balance network flows and thus improves the performance of a hybrid Software Defined Network (SDN). Previous TE solutions mainly leverage heuristic algorithms to centrally optimize link weight setting or traffic splitting ratios under the static traffic demand. Note that as the network scale becomes larger and network management gains more complexity, it is notably that the centralized TE methods suffer from a high computation overhead and a long reaction time to optimize routing of flows when the network traffic demand dynamically fluctuates or network failures happen. To enable adaptive and efficient routing in TE, we propose a Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning method CMRL that divides the routing optimization of a large network into multiple small-scale routing decision-making problems. To coordinate the multiple agents for achieving a global optimization goal, we construct an interactive environment for training the routing agents that own partial link utilization observations. To optimize credit assignment of multi-agent, we introduce the difference reward assignment mechanism for encouraging agents to take better action. Extensive simulations conducted on the real traffic traces demonstrate the superiority of CMRL in improving TE performance, especially when traffic demands change or network failures happen. Cloud storage services have been used by most businesses and individual users. However, data loss, service interruptions and cyber attacks often lead to cloud storage services not being provided properly, and these incidents have caused financial losses to users. Second, traditional and single-cloud model disaster recovery services are no longer suitable for the current complex cloud storage systems. Therefore, a scheme to provide disaster recovery for cloud storage services in a multi-cloud storage environment is needed in real production. In this paper, we propose a disaster recovery scheme based on blockchain technology. The proposed scheme outlined in this study aims to address the issue of data availability within the cloud storage landscape. The proposed scheme achieves this goal by dividing data into hot and cold categories, verifying the integrity of copy data via blockchain technology, and utilizing blockchain networks to manage multi-cloud storage systems. Experimental findings demonstrate that the proposed scheme yields superior results in terms of computation and time overheads.

Design of Filtering Power Divider with Wide Stopband Based on QMSIW

A miniaturized filtering power divider with wide stopband based on quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW) is proposed. The physical size of the QMSIW is reduced by 3/4 comparing with the traditional SIW structure, which can achieve miniaturization, and its electromagnetic field distribution has little effect. Using the metal interference column and the etched U-shaped groove to adjust the resonance frequency, so that the main mode and the first higher mode form a passband, meanwhile, suppressing the second higher mode. The simulation results show that the center frequency is 4.42 GHz with insertion loss of 0.45 dB, the 3-dB bandwidth is 4.12-4.63 GHz with a fractional bandwidths of 9.7%, and there is a great stopband up to 11 GHz with 15 dB rejection level. Besides, the return loss of passband is better than 17.5 dB. To verify the validity of this design, a prototype is fabricated and measured. The measured results demonstrate that it has a good agreement with the design simulations.

In recent years, there has been significant research focusing on addressing security concerns in single-modal person re-identification (ReID) systems that are based on RGB images. However, the safety of cross-modality scenarios, which are more commonly encountered in practical applications involving images captured by infrared cameras, has not received adequate attention. The main challenge in cross-modality ReID lies in effectively dealing with visual differences between different modalities. For instance, infrared images are typically grayscale, unlike visible images that contain color information. Existing attack methods have primarily focused on the characteristics of the visible image modality, overlooking the features of other modalities and the variations in data distribution among different modalities. This oversight can potentially undermine the effectiveness of these methods in image retrieval across diverse modalities. This study represents the first exploration into the security of cross-modality ReID models and proposes a universal perturbation attack specifically designed for cross-modality ReID. This attack optimizes perturbations by leveraging gradients from diverse modality data, thereby disrupting the discriminator and reinforcing the differences between modalities. We conducted experiments on three widely used cross-modality datasets, namely RegDB, SYSU, and LLCM. The results not only demonstrate the effectiveness of our method but also provide insights for future improvements in the robustness of cross-modality ReID systems. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

In a multi-cloud storage system, provenance data records all operations and ownership during its lifecycle, which is critical for data security and audibility. However, recording provenance data also poses some challenging security and storage issues. In this paper, we present a secure and efficient multi-cloud storage data source scheme, BMDP. We use blockchain technology to ensure the secure storage of provenance data and design a smart contract to utilize the provenance data to ensure the proper operation of the multi-cloud storage system. Finally, we analyze the scheme’s safety and do simulation experiments to show that the scheme has practicality.

An effective image tamper localization and self-recovery scheme that uses the rehashing model is proposed in this paper. The aim of the proposed scheme was to reduce the failure rate in detecting image tamper areas and achieve high rates of successful detection. To achieve this aim, the proposed scheme uses a set of hash functions which are called the rehashing model, gained an optimal decreasing collision method to detect tamper areas With an improved and accurate tamper detection rate, the tampered image can be recovered more accurately. The quality of the proposed scheme was tested with gray and color images. The experimental results indicated that the proposed scheme has good performance in locating tamper locations and allows image recovery with an acceptable visual quality up to 50% of the image content tampered. © 2016.
