Task Prioritization in Multiagent Environments: A Novel Approach Using Nash Q-Learning

—With the rapid proliferation of smartphones and various terminal devices, edge computing has gained increasing importance in overcoming computational limitations and enhancing service quality through task offloading. However, most existing approaches handle tasks on a first-come, first-served basis, neglecting task prioritization, which is critical in real-world scenarios where tasks have different levels of urgency and resource requirements. This paper addresses the challenge of effective task prioritization in multi-agent task offloading by proposing a Nash Q-learning-based strategy. Our methodology involves optimizing task allocation decisions using Nash Q-learning to integrate Nash equilibrium principles, thereby enhancing adaptability and dynamic decision-making capabilities within a multi-agent environment. The proposed algorithm is evaluated through extensive simulations, comparing total delay, resource utilization, and task success rates across various task offloading strategies. The results demonstrate that our Nash Q-learning approach outperforms conventional techniques by dramatically lowering overall latency, optimizing resource allocation, and maintaining high task success rates. This work demonstrates the efficacy of Nash Q-learning for dynamically setting priorities for tasks in multi-agent edge computing environments, providing a robust framework for effective resource management and collaborative task completion. And also highlight the potential of Nash Q-learning in advancing intelligent task management in edge computing, suggesting its applicability in real-world, resource-constrained environments. © 2025 IEEE. Separable nonlinear models are widely used in various fields such as time series analysis, system modeling, and machine learning, due to their flexible structures and ability to capture nonlinear behavior of data. However, identifying the parameters of these models is challenging, especially when sparse models with better interpretability are desired by practitioners. Previous theoretical and practical studies have shown that variable projection (VP) is an efficient method for identifying separable nonlinear models, but these are based on \(L_2\) penalty of model parameters, which cannot be directly extended to deal with sparse constraint. Based on the exploration of the structural characteristics of separable models, this paper proposes gradient-based and trust-region-based variable projection algorithms, which mainly solve two key problems: how to eliminate linear parameters under sparse constraint;and how to deal with the coupling relationship between linear and nonlinear parameters in the model. Finally, numerical experiments on synthetic data and real time series data are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

The sparse interactions between users and items have aggravated the difficulty of their representations in recommender systems. Existing methods leverage tags to alleviate the sparsity problem but ignore prevalent logical relations among items and tags (e.g., membership, hierarchy, and exclusion), which can be leveraged to enhance the accuracy of modeling user preferences and conducting recommendations. To this end, we propose to extract logical relations among item tags from existing tag taxonomies and exploit the individual strengths of the Poincaré and the Lorentz models in hyperbolic space for logical relation modeling towards enhanced recommendations. Moreover, we find that the logical relations directly extracted from existing tag taxonomies can be inaccurate and coarse. Therefore, we further devise innovative consistency-based and granularity-based weighting mechanisms based on user behavior patterns for data-driven logical relation mining that can be jointly optimized along with recommendations in an end-to-end fashion. Extensive experiments on four real-world benchmark datasets show drastic performance gains brought by our proposed framework, which constantly achieves an average of 8.25% improvement over state-of-the-art competitors regarding both Recall and NDCG metrics. Insightful case studies further demonstrate that our automatically refined logical relations are highly accurate and interpretable. © 2024 IEEE.

Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common joint disease that severely affects the normal lives of patients. In clinical practice, the severity of KOA is commonly evaluated by observing radiographs of the knee joint However, this approach heavily relies on a doctor’s clinical experience and exhibits a certain degree of subjectivity. In previous studies, various advanced deep convolutional neural network (CNN) models have been used to diagnose KOA. As known, CNN models often focus on learning the local detailed features for decision-making and lack attention to global structural information. In this study, we propose a dual network called GraphConvNet that integrates a visual graph neural network with a deep CNN to enhance representation learning by leveraging both local detailed features and global structural information. Our proposed method was evaluated using an Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) dataset and achieved an overall accuracy, recall, precision, and mean absolute error (MAE) of 75.24%, 77.75%, 74.33% and 0.283, respectively. Experiments demonstrate that our proposed method significantly improves the performance and achieves state-of-the-art performance. Few-shot font generation (FFG) aims to learn the target style from a limited number of reference glyphs and generate the remaining glyphs in the target font. Previous works focus on disentangling the content and style features of glyphs, combining the content features of the source glyph with the style features of the reference glyph to generate new glyphs. However, the disentanglement is challenging due to the complexity of glyphs, often resulting in glyphs that are influenced by the style of the source glyph and prone to artifacts. We propose IF-Font, a novel paradigm which incorporates Ideographic Description Sequence (IDS) instead of the source glyph to control the semantics of generated glyphs. To achieve this, we quantize the reference glyphs into tokens, and model the token distribution of target glyphs using corresponding IDS and reference tokens. The proposed method excels in synthesizing glyphs with neat and correct strokes, and enables the creation of new glyphs based on provided IDS. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method greatly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both one-shot and few-shot settings, particularly when the target styles differ significantly from the training font styles. Chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease (CHD) are of significant harm to human health. However, chronic disease detection commonly relies on many examinations to implement reliable diagnosis, resulting in a fatal delay in therapy. On the other hand, obtained examination data are often incomplete with numerous missing data, which further increases the difficulty in detection. To address this issue, this paper develops an inherently non-negative latent feature analysis-incorporating into a chronic disease detection (INC) model. The main idea are as follows: 1) adopting an inherently non-negative latent feature analysis model with a non-linear function to extract the non-negative latent features from incomplete examination data for accurate prediction of the unknown missing ones;2) detecting the chronic disease based on the high-dimensional and different types of inspection features via classifiers. Experiments on actual CHD datasets demonstrate that the proposed INC model outperforms state-of-the-art models in detection accuracy, which well fits the desire of preliminary screening on coronary heart disease (CHD). © 2021 IEEE.

As the largest source of technical information around the world, patents are regarded as an essential crystallization and carrier of knowledge and technological innovation. Patent transformation is conducive not only to enhancing economic efficiency, but also to improving productivity and the rational utilization of resources. There is an imbalance between high patent ownership and low transformation rates. We try to predict the occurrence of transformation events from the patent assignment. However, there are some challenges in predicting patent transformation: (1) how to capture transformation features of patents, especially combined with the transfer time factor. (2) how to predict patent transfer time effectively. To address these challenges, a Patent Transfer Time Forecasting Model (PTTFM) is proposed. The model includes: (1) extraction of time-varying features of patents. (2) the patent transfer time is forecast using a Neural Temporal Point Process. By testing the model on patents under different classifications, the experimental results are obtained to show that the proposed model is applicable to predict the timing of patent assignment within a certain time frame, especially one month. Our work may facilitate patent transformation while interpretability is ensured for transformation events. © 2023 IEEE.

Objective: Accurate decoding of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals has become more significant for the brain-computer interface (BCI). Specifically, motor imagery and motor execution (MI/ME) tasks enable the control of external devices by decoding EEG signals during imagined or real movements. However, accurately decoding MI/ME signals remains a challenge due to the limited utilization of temporal information and ineffective feature selection methods. Methods: This paper introduces DMSACNN, an end-to-end deep multiscale attention convolutional neural network for MI/ME-EEG decoding. DMSACNN incorporates a deep multiscale temporal feature extraction module to capture temporal features at various levels. These features are then processed by a spatial convolutional module to extract spatial features. Finally, a local and global feature fusion attention module is utilized to combine local and global information and extract the most discriminative spatiotemporal features. Main results: DMSACNN achieves impressive accuracies of 78.20%, 96.34% and 70.90% for hold-out analysis on the BCI-IV-2a, High Gamma and OpenBMI datasets, respectively, outperforming most of the state-of-the-art methods. Conclusion and significance: These results highlight the potential of DMSACNN in robust BCI applications. Our proposed method provides a valuable solution to improve the accuracy of the MI/ME-EEG decoding, which can pave the way for more efficient and reliable BCI systems. Intellectual property transactions have shown a strong growth momentum in recent years, but the patent transaction market has been plagued by the matching degree of consumers and sellers, resulting in frequent problems such as low patent transformation efficiency and poor transaction quality. This paper proposes a method of recommending patents to consumers by experts to improve the environment of patent transactions. Through the analysis of the past transaction information of the patent, the effective path information of the target is extracted. The graph neural network is used to describe the characteristics and semantics among experts, patents and consumers, and then capture the potential weight among them through the common attention mechanism, and then dynamically integrate them to predict the occurrence of recommendation behavior. The paper makes reasonable use of social information and expert information in the transaction, which significantly improves the rationality and accuracy of expert recommendation. © 2023 IEEE.

To address the key challenge encountered in fake news detection, i.e., multimodal data is difficult to be effectively semantically represented due to its intrinsic heterogeneity, this paper proposes a multimodal knowledge representation method for fake news detection. First, visual feature extraction is performed for fake news image data, the relevant images are sliced into multiple blocks, and then visual modal features are obtained by linear projection layer mapping. This simplifies the feature extraction process and reduces the computational cost, which helps to improve the fake news recognition performance. Second, to meet the actual fake news detection needs, a long text representation method based on topic words is investigated for the text data in fake news. Finally, the multimodal representation of the same fake news data is optimized by establishing a connection between two different modalities, visual and text, and inputting it into a BiLSTM-Attention based network to achieve the fusion of multimodal features. The experiment selects the same fake news data of EANN model and uses four classical classification methods to verify the effect of knowledge representation and compare it with the fusion model ViLT which is not optimized for long text. The experiment proves that the accuracy rate of fake news detection using the multimodal representation proposed in this paper is improved by 7.4% compared to the EANN model, and by 9.3% compared to the ViLT representation.
