Interoperative fundus image and report sharing in compliance with integrating the healthcare enterprise conformance and web access to digital imaging and communication in medicine persistent object protocol

AIM:To address issues in interoperability between different fundus image systems,we proposed a web eyepicture archiving and communication system(PACS)framework in conformance with digital imaging and communication in medicine(DICOM)and health level 7(HL7)protocol to realize fundus images and reports sharing and communication through ***:Firstly,a telemedicine-based eye care work flow was established based on integrating the healthcare enterprise(IHE)Eye Care technical ***,a browser/server architecture eye-PACS system was established in conformance with the web access to DICOM persistent object(WADO)protocol,which contains three ***:In any client system installed with web browser,clinicians could log in the eye-PACS to observe fundus images and *** internet mail extensions(MIME)type of a structured report is saved as pdf/html with reference link to relevant fundus image using the WADO syntax could provide enough information for *** functions provided by open-source Oviyam could be used to query,zoom,move,measure,view OICOM fundus ***:Such web eye-PACS in compliance to WADO protocol could be used to store and communicate fundus images and reports,therefore is of great significance for teleophthalmology.

Compared with the traditional method of measuring the blood pressure, the cuff-less blood pressure measuring method can detect the blood pressure continuously in a comfortable way, in order to provide an adequate basis of clinical diagnosis and has great significance to clinical and medical research. Some reported non-invasive continuous blood pressure measurements are presented in this review paper comprising illustrations and comparisons of the characteristic of the patents based on different methods, such as arterial tonometry method, vascular unloading technique method, pulse wave transit time method and others. This review also presents the characteristics and application of some related products. The challenge and the prospective of non-invasive continuous blood pressure measurement techniques are also analyzed. Finally, to conclude, non-invasive continuous blood pressure measurement is becoming the future development trend of blood pressure measurement, however, the accuracy of measurement also needs to be improved. © 2014 Bentham Science Publishers.

Multiple kernel learning (MKL) is a widely used kernel learning method, but how to select kernel is lack of theoretical guidance. The performance of MKL is depend on the users' experience, which is difficult to choose the proper kernels in practical applications. In this paper, we propose a MKL method based on minimal redundant maximal relevance criterion and kernel alignment. The main feature of this method compared to others in the literature is that the selection of kernels is considered as a feature selection issue in the Hilbert space, and can obtain a set of base kernels with the highest relevance to the target task and the minimal redundancies among themselves. Experimental results on several benchmark classification data sets show that our proposed method can enhance the performance of MKL. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

Many lung nodule computer-aided detection methods have been proposed to help radiologists in their decision making. Because high sensitivity is essential in the candidate identification stage, there are countless false positives produced by the initial suspect nodule generation process, giving more work to radiologists. The difficulty of false positive reduction lies in the variation of the appearances of the potential nodules, and the imbalance distribution between the amount of nodule and non-nodule candidates in the dataset. To solve these challenges, we extend the random subspace method to a novel Cost Sensitive Adaptive Random Subspace ensemble (CSARS), so as to increase the diversity among the components and overcome imbalanced data classification. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of G-mean and AUC in comparison with commonly used methods. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper presents and implements an automatic roaming and fast virtual endoscopic neurosurgery system for transsexual approach, which can be compatible with the fiber-optic endoscopic transnasal approach in the skull base surgery, and accurately locate the position and their mutual relations among the lesions, tumors and surrounding vital anatomical structures. The system uses a multithreaded RayCasting volume-rendering algorithm based on the graphics processor (GPU). It reconstructs the nasal three-dimensional structure in the skull base surgery, and optimizes the centerline extraction that can be carried out automatically. In real-time display, it improves the translucent rendering optical model, taking into account lighting model important parameter-the image gradient translucent degree of non-linear effects, and can fully display the skull surface and internal implied the interface and internal details. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper presents a framework for segmentation of renal parenchymal area from ultrasound images based on a 2-step level set method. We used distance regularized level set evolution method to partition the kidney boundary, followed by region-scalable fitting energy minimization method to segment the kidney collecting system, and determined renal parenchymal area by subtracting the area of the collecting system from the gross kidney area. The proposed method demonstrated excellent validity and low inter-observer variability.

For high dimensional data, the redundant attributes of samplers will not only increase the complexity of the calculation, but also affect the accuracy of final result. The existing attribute reduction methods are encountering bottleneck problem of timeliness and spatiality. In order to looking for a relatively coarse attributes granularity of problem solving, this paper proposes an efficient attribute granulation method to remove redundancy attribute. The method calculates the similarity of attributes according attribute discernibility first, and then clusters attributes into several group through affinity propagation clustering algorithm. At last, representative attributes are produced through some algorithms to form a coarser attribute granularity. Experimental results show that the attribute granulation method based on affinity propagation clustering algorithm(AGAP) method is a more efficient algorithm than traditional attribute reduction algorithm(AR). © 2013 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

The fall detection algorithm, which can recognize the fall of human body by collecting the acceleration signals in different directions of the body, is an important part of fall detection system for the elderly. The system, however, may have errors during analyzing the acceleration signal, due to that the coordinate system of the transducer does not coincide with the one of human motion. Furthermore, voltage variation of the battery also influences the accuracy of the acceleration signal. Therefore, in this paper, a fall detection system based on the 3D-acceleration transducer MMA7260 is designed, which can calibrate the acceleration data through compensation of voltage and transformation of coordinates. Experiments illustrated that the proposed method can accurately transform the collected data from the coordinate system of the transducer to that of the human motion, and can recognize various postural changes in the course of the motion of human body.

The class imbalance issue occurs when training a computer-aided detection (CAD) system for nodules. This imbalance causes poor prediction performance for true nodules. Moreover, the misclassification costs are different between two classes and high sensitivity of true nodules is essential in the detection. In order to eliminate or reduce the false positives while keeping high sensitivity, we present an effective wrapper framework incorporating the evaluation measure of imbalanced data into the objective function of cost sensitive SVM. We improve the performance of classification by simultaneously optimizing the best pair of misclassification cost parameter, feature subset and intrinsic parameters. We evaluated the method on a 3D Lung nodule dataset, showing that the proposed method outperforms many other exiting common methods, as well as specific imbalanced data learning methods, which indicates the effectiveness of our method on the imbalanced and unequal misclassification cost data classification.
