Extremely large-scale antenna array (ELAA) is a promising technique in 6G and autonomous driving thanks to its high spatial resolution. However, due to the extremely large array aperture, the sources may only "see"a portion of the array, called visibility region (VR). Since the information of VR is usually unknown a priori, traditional methods may encounter performance degradation. In this paper, we show that under the exact steering vector model of ELAA, the eigenvectors of the signal subspace and the steering vectors are approximately collinear in most scenarios. Thus, the angle and range can be easily estimated by using the eigenvectors of the signal subspace. Moreover, the VRs of each source can be also estimated from the eigenvectors of signal subspace. Numerical results show that the estimation performance of our method is comparable to MUSIC with known VR information. © 2023 IEEE.

This article introduces a kind of stochastic SEIR models containing virus mutation and logistic growth of susceptible populations, whose deterministic versions have a positively invariant set and globally asymptotically stable equilibrium points. For these stochastic SEIR epidemic models, we prove they have a unique global positive solution, and also obtain sufficient conditions respectively for survival and extinction of the infectious disease. Eventually, we validate our theoretical findings using numerical simulations. © 2023 International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (IMACS)

SAR target Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) is indispensable in SAR image interpretation. Recently, deep learning technology has been widely used in SAR target recognition tasks. Most networks achieve incremental improvements in target recognition by modifying their structures to extract visual features of targets. However, due to the unique imaging mechanism, relying solely on visual features often leads to the loss of target information. In contrast, the ASC model, which captures the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of the target, plays a crucial role in target recognition tasks. Unfortunately, traditional parameter estimation methods for extracting the ASC model are computationally expensive and time-consuming, making them impractical for real-world applications. To address these issues, we propose a novel target recognition method based on electromagnetic scattering features in this paper. First, a lightweight network-based feature extraction module is designed. Then, the target ASC image is used as the ground truth for guidance, with image intensity and target structure serving as the loss functions during training. Finally, an ASC model-guided feature fusion network is designed, utilizing the fused features for target recognition. On the MSTAR dataset, a visual assessment experiment demonstrated that the proposed feature extraction module effectively extracts electromagnetic scattering features under various operating conditions. Subsequently, in downstream classification tasks, the inclusion of the proposed module resulted in improved accuracy compared to other networks. Additionally, a visualization analysis of the classification network showed that, under the guidance of electromagnetic scattering features, the network achieved good interpretability. © 2024 IEEE.

Stochastic resonance algorithm is widely used to process weak noisy signals with a single frequency. In practice, mostly signals consist of multiple target frequencies, so stochastic resonance has certain limitations on processing multi-frequency signals. Adaptive adjustment of stochastic resonance parameters according to the target signal frequency is the critical factor in efficiently processing weak multi-frequency signals. The simulation results show that the bat algorithm can be applied to optimize the structural parameters of the bi-stable stochastic resonance system. Aiming at the difference of multiple-frequency signals, the bat algorithm can find the optimal function parameters through realizing algorithm iteration, and realize the efficient processing of multiple-frequency weak signals. © 2023 IEEE.

Integrated photonic neural networks (IPNNs), with their ability to process large-scale data and parallelize multiple computational tasks, have shown impressive promise for applications in the field of artificial intelligence. However, due to some hard-to-ignore non-ideal characteristics of the underlying silicon photonic MZI devices constituting the IPNN, these non-ideal characteristics can cause the input signal to be affected by crosstalk noise and optical loss during transmission, thus affecting the training and inference accuracy of the IPNN. In order to solve these problems, this paper establishes an analytical model of IPNN affected by crosstalk noise and loss during the training process, covering component level, layer level and system level. Simulations using this model show that the inference accuracy of IPNN decreases by about 65% when the crosstalk noise in the training phase of IPNN reaches -20 dB, while the inference accuracy of IPNN decreases by about 55% when the optical loss reaches -0.5 dB. © 2024 IEEE.

This article investigates the uplink performance of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided cell-free (CF) massive multiple-input-multiple-output (mMIMO) systems over spatially correlated Rayleigh fading channels. We consider multiple RISs and low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) to improve the system energy efficiency (EE). We first provide an aggregated channel estimation technique with less pilot overhead. By exploiting the statistical channel state information (CSI), we further optimize the RISs’ phase shifts with the goal of minimizing the total normalized mean square error (NMSE) of the estimated aggregated channels. Subsequently, we derive the closed-form expression of the uplink spectral efficiency (SE) for quantization-aware minimum mean-square error (MMSE) combining. Third, based on the closed-form SE expression and power consumption model, we formulate and solve an optimization problem that maximizes the uplink EE under the constraints of transmit power and total ADC quantization bits. Specifically, by leveraging the Dinkelbach transform, Lagrangian dual transform, and fractional programming (FP) techniques, an alternating optimization (AO)-based algorithm is proposed to jointly obtain the bit allocation (BA) scheme among all access points (APs) and the uplink power control (PC) strategy for all users. Finally, numerical results validate the correctness of the closed-form SE expression and show the effectiveness of the proposed optimization methods for phase shift design and EE maximization. © 2014 IEEE.

In this study, we address the multi-robot path planning problem for tasks specified by linear temporal logic (LTL) formulae. Unlike existing studies, we take into account the possibility of robot failures, where a failed robot can no longer contribute to the completion of the LTL task. Our objective is to find a failure-robust path, which ensures that the LTL task can always be fulfilled, even if a maximum number of robots fail at any point during execution. To achieve this, we extend the mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) approach to the failure-robust setting. To overcome the computational complexity, we identify a fragment of LTL formulae called the free-union-closed LTL, which allows for more scalable synthesis without considering the global combinatorial issue. We present case studies to demonstrate our findings. Our approach provides a novel solution to the problem of multi-robot path planning under robot failures, offering a practical and efficient way to achieve robustness in the face of unforeseen events. © 2023 IEEE.

Computational music emotion recognition (MER) is an important task that aims to recognize emotional content in music tracks. Understanding the emotional content of music can help tailor therapeutic interventions to specific emotional needs, potentially improving their effectiveness. Piano music is widely used in music therapy for depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. However, comparatively little work has been done on MER in piano music, which is a challenging task due to the unique difficulties in recognizing emotions in single-timbre music without vocals, especially on valence. In this paper, we propose a novel Double-Mix-Net model that utilizes the multi-layer feature mixing and multi-modal feature mixing methods to improve classification performance. Our model uses both the title of the YouTube music video and the music context to predict the emotion of a given music track. Additionally, we make full use of different granularity features through the multi-layer feature mixing method. Our proposed model achieved state-of-the-art accuracy performance of 73.8% on the Emopia dataset and is the first multi-modal network designed for piano emotion recognition. The results of our study highlight the importance of considering the music title and utilizing multi-layer feature mixing methods in piano music emotion recognition. This work helps the emotional understanding of piano music. Our proposed model can be applied in various domains such as music recommendation systems, film scoring, and game design to enhance the emotional impact of music. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
