A Conflict-Priority-Based Variable Neighborhood Tabu Search Method for Multi-Satellite Scheduling

With the increasing number and capabilities of orbital satellites and their onboard sensors, satellites scheduling plays an important role in growing demands for Earth observation tasks. A conflict-priority-based variable neighborhood tabu search method is proposed in this paper. By analyzing the flexibility of resources, the conflict-priority of tasks, and the visible time window features, the indicators of the impact, the conflict, the flexibility, and the bad impact are first established. On this basis, a first-come first-served greedy algorithm and a minimum bad impact greedy algorithm are designed for the generation of the initial solution. some rule-based heuristic strategies are also adopted for optimizing. Additionally, the algorithm incorporates three types of neighborhood structures including insertion, swapping and rearrangement, and deletion, using a tabu list to avoid local optima. Experimental results indicate the validity and efficiency of the proposed method. All solutions are within 10% of the optimal solution, with some even within 5%.The proposed method is effective for obtaining optimum solutions or solutions with a very good quality in various multi-satellite scheduling scenarios of realistic planning. © Chinese Society of Astronautics 2024.

Diffusion models, known for their success in various generative tasks like image generation and super-resolution, are applied in this study for point cloud generation, a field that has not been extensively explored due to the complexity of point clouds. We propose a novel method using a diffusion model to generate high-quality 3D point clouds from 2D sketches. This method employs a self-supervised contrastive learning scheme to align sketch and point cloud modalities. Additionally, it incorporates a specific partition mixing strategy to integrate edge information during pre-training. Evaluated on two benchmark datasets, our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches, showcasing the potential of diffusion models in point cloud generation and setting a new direction for future research. © 2025 IEEE.

A terahertz refractive index sensor constructed with graphene metamaterial absorber has been proposed. The sensor features a patterned graphene structure, consisting of an independent circular ring and a special structure formed by intersecting cross and square patterns. Under normal incidence of TM and TE polarized light, the sensor exhibits a low-frequency peak at 1.55 THz with maximum absorption rates of 9 9. 4 5% and a high-frequency peak at 3.83 THz with maximum absorption rates of 9 9. 5 0%. The quality factors (Q factor) of the two peaks are 31 and 65, respectively. Unlike traditional metal sensors, the absorption peaks of this sensor can achieve dynamic tunability through adjusting the graphene's Fermi level. By varying the analyte's thickness and refractive index, the maximum sensitivity of the two absorption peaks can reach 495 GHz RIU and 895 GHz/ RIU. The corresponding figures of merit (FOM) are 9.9 and 15.2, respectively. The sensor proposed here are applied to detect hemoglobin biomolecule content and has shown excellent sensing performance in our simulations. Therefore, the present work has broad potential for applications in biomedical and medical diagnostic fields. © 2024 IEEE.

The integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid has led to new challenges in maintaining the stability of the system frequency. This paper proposes a novel approach to address the Optimal Demand Side Frequency control (ODFC) problem using Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MADDPG) method. The proposed method models the ODFC problem as a Markov game, with centralized training based on multi-agent cooperative self-learning and associative storage service. In the decentralized execution stage, each agent independently outputs control actions to the controlled plant using local observations. Numerical simulations show that the proposed method effectively addresses the ODFC problem with superior performance compared to traditional methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Preserving details and avoiding high computational costs are the two main challenges for the High-Resolution Salient Object Detection (HRSOD) task. In this paper, we propose a two-stage HRSOD model from the perspective of evolution and succession, including an evolution stage with Low-resolution Location Model (LrLM) and a succession stage with High-resolution Refinement Model (HrRM). The evolution stage achieves detail-preserving salient objects localization on the low-resolution image through the evolution mechanisms on supervision and feature;the succession stage utilizes the shallow high-resolution features to complement and enhance the features inherited from the first stage in a lightweight manner and generate the final high-resolution saliency prediction. Besides, a new metric named Boundary-Detail-aware Mean Absolute Error (MAEBD) is designed to evaluate the ability to detect details in high-resolution scenes. Extensive experiments on five datasets demonstrate that our network achieves superior performance at real-time speed (49 FPS) compared to state-of-the-art methods. Cell-free networks and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are two promising techniques for future wireless communications. The integration of RIS into cell-free networks, termed RIS-aided cell-free networks, offers the potential to significantly enhance network performance. However, the realization of this potential is constrained by the limited capacities of the fronthaul links. To address this challenge, we investigate the joint design of access point (AP) clustering, transmit and passive beamforming in RIS-aided cell-free networks. The objective is to maximize the weighted sum-rate performance while minimizing the number of clustered APs to alleviate the fronthaul overhead. The problem is formulated in a group sparse manner, employing a mixed zero-norm/two-norm term to represent the number of the clustered APs. To solve this problem, we first approximate the mixed zero-norm/two-norm term by the mixed one-norm/two-norm term and provide its equivalent formulation by introducing receive beamforming vectors and weight parameters. Then, an iterative method is proposed based on the block coordinate descent (BCD) technique, which is guaranteed to converge to a stationary point. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) is a crucial approach to aligning language models with human values and intentions. A fundamental challenge in this method lies in ensuring that the reward model accurately understands and evaluates human preferences. Current methods rely on ranking losses to teach the reward model to assess preferences, but they are susceptible to noise and ambiguous data, often failing to deeply understand human intentions. To address this issue, we introduce contrastive learning into the reward modeling process. In addition to supervised ranking loss, we introduce an unsupervised contrastive loss to enable the reward model to fully capture the distinctions in contrastive data. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed contrastive learning-based reward modeling method effectively enhances the generalization of the reward model, stabilizes the reinforcement learning training process, and improves the final alignment with human preferences. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Tool learning has generated widespread interest as a vital means of interaction between Large Language Models (LLMs) and the physical world. Current research predominantly emphasizes LLMs' capacity to utilize tools in well-structured environments while overlooking their stability when confronted with the inevitable noise of the real world. To bridge this gap, we introduce RoTBench, a multi-level benchmark for evaluating the robustness of LLMs in tool learning. Specifically, we establish five external environments, each featuring varying levels of noise (i.e., Clean, Slight, Medium, Heavy, and Union), providing an in-depth analysis of the model's resilience across three critical phases: tool selection, parameter identification, and content filling. Experiments involving six widely-used models underscore the urgent necessity for enhancing the robustness of LLMs in tool learning. For instance, the performance of GPT-4 even drops significantly from 80.00 to 58.10 when there is no substantial change in manual accuracy. More surprisingly, the noise correction capability inherent in the GPT family paradoxically impedes its adaptability in the face of mild noise. In light of these findings, we propose RoTTuning, a strategy that enriches the diversity of training environments to bolster the robustness of LLMs in tool learning. In many PDF documents, the reading order of text blocks is missing, which can hinder machine understanding of the document's content. Existing works try to extract one universal reading order for a PDF file. However, applications, like Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), require breaking long articles into sections, subsections and table cells for better indexing. For this reason, this paper introduces a new task and dataset, PDF-to-Tree, which organizes the text blocks of a PDF into a tree structure. Since a PDF may contain thousands of text blocks, this paper proposes a transition-based parser that uses a greedy strategy to build the tree structure. Compared to the parser for plain text, we also use multi-modal features to encode the parser state. Experiments show that our approach achieves an accuracy of 93.93%, surpassing the performance of baseline methods by an improvement of 6.72%. Image deraining typically involves synthesizing low-quality degraded data for training using a predefined degraded model of a single weather condition. While in real world scenarios, varying rain intensities result in different sizes and densities of raindrops and rain streaks, increasing the complexity of image degradation. In this paper, we proposed a multi-stage deraining framework based on pre-trained diffusion model, it can efficiently perform the rain removal task under a variety of weather situations. We diffuse degraded images into a noisy state where various types of degradation are transformed into Gaussian noise. Then, during the denoising process, the low-frequency information of the image is replaced through iterative refinement, guiding the pre-trained diffusion model for image reconstruction. Our method effectively utilizes the generative priors in diffusion models and avoid the computational burden of retraining conditional diffusion models. Experimental results on four rainy degradation image datasets show its robustness to different types and severities of degradation (such as raindrops and rain streaks). Compared to recent deraining algorithms, our method achieves a maximum improvement of 0.96 dB (3.5%) in PSNR and 0.021 dB (2.7%) in SSIM for the restored images. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
