Millimeter-wave (mmWave) and massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technologies rely heavily on accurate channel state information (CSI) to significantly increase system capacity. However, the large size of the antenna array makes it more difficult to obtain accurate channel state information. We propose to utilize beam domain channels to improve the channel estimation accuracy. Specifically, we first construct the angular domain compensation. By utilizing this angular domain compensation, we further propose an angular domain compensated alternating direction multiplier method (ADC-ADMM) algorithm. The scheme models the channel estimation problem as a bi-objective convex optimization problem with joint angular domain compensation, which can capture channel state information more comprehensively. In addition, the angular domain compensation can provide a priori information and improve the robustness in noisy environments. The simulation results confirm the feasibility of the proposed ADC-ADMM scheme.

Energy-Aware Task Offloading for Rotatable STAR-RIS-Enhanced Mobile Edge computing Systems

Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) can expand the coverage of mobile edge computing (MEC) services by reflecting and transmitting signals simultaneously, enabling full-space coverage. The orientation of the STAR-RIS plays a crucial role in optimizing the gain of received and transmitted signals, and a rotatable STAR-RIS offers potential enhancement for MEC systems. This paper investigates a rotatable STAR-RIS-assisted MEC system, operated under three protocols, namely energy splitting, mode switching, and time switching. The goal is to minimize energy consumption for multiple moving user devices through the joint optimization of STAR-RIS configurations, orientation, computation resource allocation, transmission power, and task offloading strategies. Considering the mobility of user devices, we model the original optimization problem as a sequential decision-making process across multiple time slots. The high-dimensional, highly coupled, and nonlinear nature makes it a challenging non-convex decision-making problem for traditional optimization algorithms. Therefore, a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach is employed, specifically utilizing soft actor-critic algorithm to train the DRL model. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the benchmarks in both convergence speed and energy efficiency, while reducing energy consumption by up to 52.7% compared to the fixed STAR-RIS scheme. Among three operating protocols, the energy splitting yields the best performance. © 2014 IEEE.

Based on the equivalent circuit model of PIN diode and the full wave simulation method of CST software, the system performance of finite large energy selective surface (ESS) is simulated and analyzed when the number of cells is small. The simulation results show that the working performance of ESS will be degraded by the slight surface deformation caused by external force but not fail completely. Therefore, in the practical application of ESS, attention should be paid to avoid deformation caused by external force extrusion, which will reduce the shielding performance of ESS. The simulation results provide reference value for the practical design and application of energy selective surface. © 2022 IEEE.

Enhancing Neural Machine Translation with Semantic Units

Conventional neural machine translation (NMT) models typically use subwords and words as the basic units for model input and comprehension. However, complete words and phrases composed of several tokens are often the fundamental units for expressing semantics, referred to as semantic units. To address this issue, we propose a method Semantic Units for Machine Translation (SU4MT) which models the integral meanings of semantic units within a sentence, and then leverages them to provide a new perspective for understanding the sentence. Specifically, we first propose Word Pair Encoding (WPE), a phrase extraction method to help identify the boundaries of semantic units. Next, we design an Attentive Semantic Fusion (ASF) layer to integrate the semantics of multiple subwords into a single vector: the semantic unit representation. Lastly, the semantic-unit-level sentence representation is concatenated to the token-level one, and they are combined as the input of encoder. Experimental results demonstrate that our method effectively models and leverages semantic-unit-level information and outperforms the strong baselines. Image encryption based on 2D-SAHM chaotic system and a novel DNA operation rule

With the continuous development of information technology, ensuring information security has become an important issue. As a widely used multimedia tool, images often face the risk of leakage. Therefore, this paper proposes an image encryption algorithm based on 2D-SAHM chaotic system and a new DNA operation rule. The algorithm first constructs a new chaotic system 2D-SAHM, which has better chaotic characteristics and can generate more random chaotic sequences than the traditional low-dimensional chaotic system. And then, on the basis of this system, the algorithm scrambles and diffuses the image. In the scrambling stage, the whole image is converted into a one-dimensional pixel matrix and divided into several sub-images by double Joseph scrambling. In the diffusion stage, to solve the problem that traditional DNA encryption relies too much on chaotic sequences, this paper proposes a new DNA operation rule. This rule determines the operation symbol of DNA by the type of amino acid, which improves the randomness of the algorithm. The final simulation results and performance analysis show that the algorithm has high security and strong anti-interference ability.

Depression has become a major global public health challenge. Social media texts reflect users’ emotional and psychological states, providing a valuable data source for depression detection through natural language analysis. However, current research still faces limitations in modeling the collaborative representation of user texts and dynamic behaviors. To address this, we propose MVDep, a model that integrates multi-view features to enhance social text representation for depression detection. Specifically, we enhance text representation by investigating depression from multi-view, including social media texts, user profiles, and social behaviors, enabling more effective depression detection. First, we conduct initial filtering of social media texts using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), and then screen out the uncertain domain of data samples based on the three-way decision (3WD). Next, we extract quantified user profiles and social behavioral features to enhance the representation of depression tendencies for uncertain domain samples. Finally, we fuse the multi-view features derived from social media texts, user profiles and social behaviors, improving the model’s ability to detect depression. We evaluate our model on the SWDD dataset, demonstrating its superiority over state-of-the-art baseline models in depression detection tasks. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Combined with the generative prior of pre-trained models and the flexibility of text, text-driven generative domain adaptation can generate images from a wide range of target domains. However, current methods still suffer from overfitting and the mode collapse problem. In this paper, we analyze the mode collapse from the geometric point of view and reveal its relationship to the Hessian matrix of generator. To alleviate it, we propose the spectral consistency regularization to preserve the diversity of source domain without restricting the semantic adaptation to target domain. We also design granularity adaptive regularization to flexibly control the balance between diversity and stylization for target model. We conduct experiments for broad target domains compared with state-of-the-art methods and extensive ablation studies. The experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method to preserve the diversity of source domain and generate high fidelity target images. The goal of visual object navigation for an agent is to find the target objects accurately. Recent works mainly focus on the feature of embedding, attempting to learn better features with different variants, such as object distribution and graph representations. However, some typical navigation problems in complex environments, such as partially known and obstacle problems, may not be effectively addressed by previous feature embedding methods. In this paper, we propose a framework with a long-short objective policy, where the hidden states are classified according to the navigation objectives at that moment and separately rewarded. Specifically, we consider two objectives: the long-term objective is to go closer to the target, and the short-term objective is for obstacle avoidance and exploration. To alleviate the effect of long-term and short-term alternation, we build a state memory and propose an adjustment gate to update the state memory. Finally, all past hidden states are reweighted and combined for action prediction with an action-boosting gate. Experimental results on RoboTHOR show that the proposed method can significantly outperform the state-of-the-art.

Topic identification of expert stock comments is an important task in the field of finance, which helps investors understand the market dynamics and expert opinions so that they can make more informed investment decisions. The Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model is one of the widely used methods for text topic identification. To improve the identification accuracy and overcome the limitations of the BERT model, two strategies are proposed in this study. First, given the BERT model's input length limitation when dealing with long texts, we used the summaries created by Chat Generative Pre-training Transformer (ChatGPT) as inputs to the model. The generative summarization capability of ChatGPT not only reduces the length of the text effectively but also preserves the key information of the original text, which enables the model to better understand and deal with long texts. Second, we perform multi-layer feature ablation on the BERT model to find the most representative features for text topic identification. The multi-layer features of the BERT model can be more effectively utilized to improve the accuracy of text topic identification. Experiments show that our proposed strategies exhibit excellent performance and provide effective paths to improve the accuracy of stock comment topic identification. © 2024 ACM.
