Multistability of Recurrent Neural Networks with Nonmonotonic Activation Functions and Mixed Time Delays

This paper presents new theoretical results on the multistability analysis of a class of recurrent neural networks with nonmonotonic activation functions and mixed time delays. Several sufficient conditions are derived for ascertaining the existence of 3n equilibrium points and the exponential stability of 2n equilibrium points via state space partition by using the geometrical properties of activation functions and algebraic properties of nonsingular M-matrix. Compared with existing results, the conditions herein are much more computable with one order less linear matrix inequalities. Furthermore, the attraction basins of these exponentially stable equilibrium points are estimated. It is revealed that the attraction basins of the 2n equilibrium points can be larger than their originally partitioned subspaces. Three numerical examples are elaborated with typical nonmonotonic activation functions to substantiate the efficacy and characteristics of the theoretical results. © 2015 IEEE.

The operation of splicing on words was introduced by Tom Head while proposing a theoretical model of DNA recombination. Subsequent investigations on splicing on linear and circular strings of symbols have resulted in a number of theoretical properties. A different kind of splicing on two words, referred to as flat splicing, has been considered recently. This operation is extended to flat splicing on picture arrays, thus defining a new model of generation of digitized pictures, which is called as array flat splicing system (AFS). Results on the generative power of AFS in comparison with certain well-known picture array defining models and certain non-closure results are obtained. In memristor memory design,it is often concentrated on the feedback control effect and not much on the reliability and *** study adopt an adaptive write,read and erase method,and realize a more resilient memory operation in the face of low yield in the nano-memory technology *** analyzing writing,reading and erasing strategies for our target memory cell,we present simulation results that show the feasibility of these writing,reading and erasing ***,the narrow current pulse stimulus is compared to the ramp current stimulus,and the latter one is shown to have a faster writing *** simulation results are based on a SPICE model built upon the TiO2 memristive device made in HP laboratory.

Array P systems with parallel rewriting and tables of context-free rules

The two areas of picture languages and membrane computing were linked by array-rewriting P system in which array objects and context-free array-rewriting rules are used in order to generate picture languages. While rewriting arrays in the array-rewriting P system is in a sequential manner, parallel array P system (PAP) involves rewriting of arrays in the regions in parallel in order to generate picture languages. A variant of PAP, known as tabled array P system (TPAP), uses sets of context-free array-rewriting rules, called tables of rules. Generative power of TPAP in comparison with PAP and certain other kinds of picture array generating mechanisms are investigated. Copyright © 2016 American Scientific Publishers. All rights reserved.

In this paper, a novel interval type-2 fuzzy logic controller (IT2FLC) is proposed for controlling a mobile wheeled inverted pendulum(MWIP) with model uncertainties and external disturbances. The MWIP is a typical underactuated system which is generally composed of two subsystems, an invert pendulum and a mobile robot system. The IT2FLC proposed in this paper is composed of a balancing controller, a velocity controller and a yaw steering controller. The proposed integrated IT2FLC is linear combination of the three individual IT2FLCs which uses simplified type reduce method. The proposed controller has simple structure and requires less computation, also it is expected to have robustness to uncertainties and external disturbances in the practical implementation. Considering the model uncertainties and external disturbances, simulation results proved the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed IT2FLC compared with type-1 fuzzy logic controller (T1FLC).

In this study we modified the local binary pattern operator (LBP) to obtain the robust invariant texture patterns for image texture classification. The modified method will be able to calculate patterns which are invariant for translation, scaling, rotation and reflection. Therefore, the modified LBP is called R-LBP. Although many variation of LBP have been proposed, most of them cannot detect and recognize the patterns of reflection. Both clockwise and counter clockwise coding is used in the proposed R-LBP operator in order to derive a minimum code to representing the pattern. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in determining the invariant patterns for image texture classification. © 2015 ACM.

Traditional computer portrait caricature system mainly take the method that exaggerate and deform real images directly, that lead the facial image background also been deformed when exaggerate facial image. If in pretreatment stage, we segmented the characters and background of the input image, and then do the subsequent processing, the problem may be solved. But for better portrait caricature effects, we need an excellent segmentation algorithm. So, we propose an improved Grabcut image segmentation algorithm and use it to extract the prospect character image for exaggeration and deformation. In practical application, we separate deform and exaggerate the foreground characters image with TPS method, then fuse it with the original or new background picture, get the final image. Application proves, the method solves the background deformation problem well, and improves the quality and rate of image segmentation, caricature synthesis effect reality and natural. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

The finite languages generated by spiking neural P systems with astrocytes

Spiking neural P systems with astrocytes (SNPA, for short) are a class of distributed parallel computing devices inspired from the way spikes pass through the synapses between the neurons. In the present work, we discuss the computing power of SNPA systems as language generators, with special emphasis on the finite languages generated by SNPA systems. It is found that the finite languages of special forms can be generated by SNPA systems, while these languages cannot generated by spiking neural P systems without astrocytes. A new automatic mass detection method for breast cancer with false positive reduction

Mass localization is a crucial problem in computer-aided detection (CAD) system for the diagnosis of suspicious regions in mammograms. In this paper, a new automatic mass detection method for breast cancer in mammographic images is proposed. Firstly, suspicious regions are located with an adaptive region growing method, named multiple concentric layers (MCL) approach. Prior knowledge is utilized by tuning parameters with training data set during the MCL step. Then, the initial regions are further refined with narrow band based active contour (NBAC), which can improve the segmentation accuracy of masses. Texture features and geometry features are extracted from the regions of interest (ROI) containing the segmented suspicious regions and the boundaries of the segmentation. The texture features are computed from gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) and completed local binary pattern (CLBP). Finally, the ROIs are classified by means of support vector machine (SVM), with supervision provided by the radiologist׳s diagnosis. To deal with the imbalance problem regarding the number of non-masses and masses, supersampling and downsampling are incorporated. The method was evaluated on a dataset with 429 craniocaudal (CC) view images, containing 504 masses. Among them, 219 images containing 260 masses are used to optimize the parameters during MCL step, and are used to train SVM. The remaining 210 images (with 244 masses) are used to test the performance. Masses are detected with 82.4% sensitivity with 5.3 false positives per image (FPsI) with MCL, and after active contour refinement, feature analysis and classification, it obtained 1.48 FPsI at the sensitivity 78.2%. Testing on 164 normal mammographic images showed 5.18 FPsI with MCL and 1.51 FPsI after classification. Experiments on mediolateral oblique (MLO) images have also been performed, the proposed method achieved a sensitivity 75.6% at 1.38 FPsI. In this paper, we study the existence and global exponential stability of almost periodic solution for memristor-based neural networks with leakage, time-varying and distributed delays. Using a new Lyapunov function method, we prove that this delayed neural network has a unique almost periodic solution, which is globally exponentially stable. Moreover, the obtained conclusion on the almost periodic solution is applied to prove the existence and stability of periodic solution (or equilibrium point) for this delayed neural network with periodic coefficients (or constant coefficients).
