Contour extraction model introducing contrast adaptive characteristics based on visual pathway

Effectively extracting image subject contours holds significant importance for subsequent image processing tasks. Recognizing the pivotal role of contrast features in contour characterization, this paper proposes a novel contour extraction model with contrast adaptive characteristics, inspired by visual perception simulation visual pathways. Firstly, leveraging the color antagonism traits of retinal ganglion cells, we construct a color image contrast calculation model to enhance the representation of visual information contrast. Furthermore, drawing upon the feed-forward impact of the retina on Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN) cells, we introduce a contrast gain control mechanism to extract multi-directional primary contour responses. Secondly, employing the LIF neuron network to simulate the lateral geniculate body's information flow processing mechanism, we encode visual information via pulse firing to eliminate redundant contour details. Then, by considering the primary visual cortex (V1) cell's receptive field size variation with contrast, we devise a contrast-adaptive dynamic receptive field model. Additionally, we develop a texture suppression model based on the orientation/contrast disparity between the receptive field model's center and periphery. Finally, integrating the primary contour response and the image obtained through the inhibition model, we fuse features to derive the final image subject target contour. This study employs the BSDS500 dataset and the RuG40 dataset for experimentation. Comparative analysis against mainstream methods demonstrates our approach's superior ability to retain the main image outline while suppressing non-edge textures, with P-value indicators for contour detection of 0.58 and 0.50, respectively. Considering the challenges associated with robots in optoelectronic imaging applications, typically require real-time and accurate recognition and localization of targets, especially in complex environments. Due to the potential challenges of noise, blurring, or dense targets in the images obtained by optoelectronic imaging systems, traditional object detection algorithms may face issues such as semantic information loss and difficulty in detecting small targets. By introducing residual deformable convolution structures, feature representation can be enhanced in optoelectronic imaging systems, and the shape of the convolution kernel can be dynamically adjusted to adapt to the non rigid deformation of the target, thereby better capturing the detailed features of small targets. Experimental results exhibit that RAFPN enhances the mAP of object detection algorithms RetinaNet, Faster R-CNN, and GFL by 1.2%, 0.9%, and 1.1% respectively on the MS COCO dataset, effectively enhancing the performance of object detection algorithms in optoelectronic imaging. © 2024 SPIE.

Semantic segmentation is one of the most important research directions in the field of computer vision, and has a wide range of applications for autonomous driving, medical imaging, intelligent security, etc. Unsupervised domain adaptation is the mainstream research topic in recent years, which can use a large number of labeled source samples to complete the segmentation task in target domain without labeled target samples. In this paper, we propose a prototype-guided unsupervised domain adaptation for semantic segmentation based on ProDA model. Due to lacking of labeled target samples and the prior probability, a prototype distance loss based on target domain is proposed to optimize the distribution of features by measuring the distance between features and the updated prototype and designing an adaptive threshold strategy. Meanwhile, a smoothing loss is proposed to alleviate the impact of source samples on our model and improve the prediction performance of the network. By conducting experiments on the GTA5 to Cityscapes scenarios, the results show that compared with the original model, the loss optimization improves mIoU by1.52. © 2023 IEEE.

Monocular depth estimation is a fundamental task in computer vision and has drawn increasing attention. Recently, attention-based models and encoder-decoder architectures have led to great improvements in monocular depth estimation. Typically, most of the previous methods used repeated simple up-sampling operations during decoding, which may not make full use of the potential properties of the features extracted by the encoder, and there are problems of inaccurate prediction of the edge and depth maximum region. We propose an attention-based feature fusion module for encoder and decoder. We treat the monocular depth estimation as a pixel-level optimization problem, where the coarsest encoder feature is used to initialize the pixel-level optimization, which is then refined to higher resolution by the proposed attentional feature fusion (AFF). We formulate the prediction problem as ordinal regression over the bin centers that discretize the continuous depth range. It predicts a correspondingly different distribution of bins based on different pictures and we predict bins at the coarsest level using global pooling and MLP layers. In the NYUV2 dataset, the proposed architecture improving original model by 2.5.% and 1.1%, in terms of Log10 and Absolute relative error, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Remote sensing object detection is an important research area in computer vision, widely applied in both military and civilian domains. However, challenges in remote sensing image object detection such as large image sizes, complex backgrounds, and significant variations in target scales are prevalent. To address these issues, this paper proposes a new Feature Denoising and Fusion Module (FDFM) aimed at enhancing the accuracy and robustness of object detection. This module comprises a Multi-Scale Denoising Submodule(MDS) and an Attention Optimization Submodule(AOS). The Multi-Scale Denoising Module aims to suppress lower-level texture noise by utilizing higher-level semantic features before the fusion process, reducing the impact of lower-level noise on subsequent multi-scale feature fusion. Meanwhile, the Attention Optimization Module seeks to enhance the precision of self-attention computations within the Multi-Scale Denoising Module without increasing the parameter count. The efficacy of this method was evaluated on public datasets DOTA, VisDrone, VOC and COCO, showing improvements in comparison to baseline models. © 2024 IEEE.

Path planning and tracking algorithms are one of the cores of autonomous navigation technology for unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). In this paper, a local obstacle avoidance method based on event-triggered control is proposed to ensure that the UGV avoids obstacles in the tracking process. First, the path planning and tracking control problem of the UGV is modeled and formulated. Second, the improvement and logical correlation of the relevant algorithms are described in detail. Finally, ajoint simulation of MATLAB and V-rep is performed. The simulation results show that event-triggered control can largely improve the reliability of the UGV path planning and tracking process, and verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

Biometric systems, even with high accuracies, commonly suffer from various attacks. In practical applications, some systems directly display the matching scores, or attackers can obtain the matching scores. This paper proposes a novel matching-score-based template reconstruction attack, which reveals that matching scores can leak the spatial neighborhood range of the attacked template, resulting in some potential security and privacy risks. The dissimilarity (matching score) between two real-number templates is measured by the Euclidean distance. A small number of match scores can be obtained by matching the attacked template with a few randomly selected or generated fake templates. An equation set can be established based on the formulae of the matching scores. However, it is difficult to directly solve the quadratic equation set. We skillfully simplify the quadratic equation set into a linear equation set, which obviously reduces the complexity, especially for large-size templates. This novel attack can be extended to other algorithms, and used to evaluate the security and privacy of the related algorithms. © 2025 SPIE.

Segmentation of the Ventricle Membranes in Short-Axis Sequences by Optical Flow Base on DLSRE Model

Recent studies have pointed out that the boundary of the extracted ventricle membranes is unsmooth, and the segmentation of the cardiac papillary muscle and trabecular muscle do inconformity the clinical requirements. To address these issues, this paper proposes an automatic segment algorithm for continuously extracting ventricle membranes boundary, which adopts optical flow field information and sequential images information. The images are cropped by frame difference method, which according to the continuity of adjacent slices of cardiac MRI images. The roughly boundary of epicardium is extracted by the Double level set region evolution(DLSRE) model, which combines image global information, local information and edge information. The ventricle endocardium and epicardial contours are tracked according to the optical flow field information between image sequences. The segmentation results are optimized by Delaunay triangulation algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can improve the accuracy of segmenting the ventricle endocardium and epicardium contours, and segment the contour of the smooth ventricle membrane edge that meets the clinical definition.

Human emotions are dynamic and influenced by external circumstances, social interactions, and an individual's internal state. However, existing electroencephalogram (EEG) emotion recognition research often focuses on static scenarios and does not fully account for the continuity of dynamic emotions. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes an dynamic continuous emotion recognition approach based on EEG signals. Firstly, a novel experimental paradigm was designed to cover six emotion transition scenarios: calm to happy, happy to calm, sad to calm, calm to sad, nervous to calm, and calm to nervous. EEG signals were collected from 24 subjects using a 64-channel EEG device. These signals were assigned dynamic continuous emotional labels, which were normalized to ensure consistency. Secondly, the brain was divided into four zones: frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal. Five regression algorithms with good performance were selected for integration. A dynamic emotion recognition model was then constructed, which included a regional feature extraction module and an integrated regression module, aiming at identifying EEG emotions in dynamic situations. Finally, the differential entropy feature was tested, and the results showed the specificity of different brain zones in recognizing the six dynamic emotions. Moreover, the proposed model achieved lower mean square errors in valence and arousal. Compared to six machine learning models and deep learning models, namely SVRrbf, KNN, DT, RF, CNN, and GRU, the proposed model demonstrates higher recognition accuracy. © 2025 SPIE.
