Since 2005,dozens of geographical observational stations have been established in the Heihe River Basin(HRB),and by now a large amount of meteorological,hydrological,and ecological observations as well as data pertaining to water resources,soil and vegetation have been *** adequately analyze these available data and data to be further collected in future,we present a perspective from complexity *** concrete materials covered include a presentation of adaptive multiscale filter,which can readily determine arbitrary trends,maximally reduce noise,and reliably perform fractal and multifractal analysis,and a presentation of scale-dependent Lyapunov exponent(SDLE),which can reliably distinguish deterministic chaos from random processes,determine the error doubling time for prediction,and obtain the defining parameters of the process *** adaptive filter is illustrated by applying it to obtain the global warming trend and the Atlantic multidecadal oscillation from sea surface temperature data,and by applying it to some variables collected at the HRB to determine diurnal cycle and fractal *** SDLE is illustrated to determine intermittent chaos from river flow data.

Aerial video stitching has been widely used in many fields such as large-scale videos surveillance, disaster monitoring and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigation. Ghosting and parallax are challenging problems when the video streams are captured by UAV. This paper presents a novel method based on hybrid projective model which combines local warp alignment and global warp projection for better registration accuracy. The geometric alignment model is used for global registration of images and the content-preserving alignment model is used for local refinement. Simultaneously, reference frame is updated adaptively according to the shift of scenery, which is used to eliminate the cumulative error appearing in long video streams. The proposed approach has been tested under multiple datasets in different scenarios, which shows good performance.

Evaluation and application of shallow buried tunnel construction safety based on combined empowerment-multidimensional cloud model

In order to study the influence of various factors on the construction safety of shallow buried tunnels, a multifactor evaluation model consisting of 9 indicators, such as tunnel size, the buried depth, surrounding rock condition and construction management, is established from the perspective of '4M1E' by combining the characteristics of shallow buried tunnel construction by borehole-blasting method. It combines the advantages of subjective weighting method AHP and objective weighting method CRITIC, and determines the comprehensive weight values through the combined weighting method, which is used to improve the weight assignment of multi-dimensional normal cloud model, and evaluates the stability of the surrounding rock at the entrance and exit of the shallow buried tunnel based on the concepts of expectation, entropy and super entropy of the cloud model. And then it accurately obtains the construction safety of the entrance and exit of the shallow buried tunnel, and the evaluation results have scientific guidance for the control of construction risks.

Recently published graph neural networks (GNNs) show promising performance at social event detection tasks. However, most studies are oriented toward monolingual data in languages with abundant training samples. This has left the more common multilingual settings and lesser-spoken languages relatively unexplored. Thus, we present a GNN that incorporates cross-lingual word embeddings for detecting events in multilingual data streams. The first exploit is to make the GNN work with multilingual data. For this, we outline a construction strategy that aligns messages in different languages at both the node and semantic levels. Relationships between messages are established by merging entities that are the same but are referred to in different languages. Non-English message representations are converted into English semantic space via the cross-lingual word embeddings. The resulting message graph is then uniformly encoded by a GNN model. In special cases where a lesser-spoken language needs to be detected, a novel cross-lingual knowledge distillation framework, called CLKD, exploits prior knowledge learned from similar threads in English to make up for the paucity of annotated data. Experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets show the framework to be highly effective at detection in both multilingual data and in languages where training samples are scarce. © 2021, CC BY.

Docker has been widely adopted in production environment, but unfortunately deployment and cold-start of container are limited by the low speed of disk. The emerging non-volatile memory (NVM) technology, which has high speed and can store data permanently, brings a new chance to accelerate the deployment and cold-start of container. However, it is expensive to replace the whole hard disk driver (HDD) with NVM. To achieve the fastest deployment and cold-start with lowest cost, we conduct in-depth analysis on the Top-134 images in Docker Hub and obtain two main insights as: (1) the storing latency of layered image has become the bottleneck of container deployment;(2) only a few image layers are required for container cold-start. Based on these two findings, we propose a NVM-HDD hybrid docker storage framework as N-Docker. It can effectively accelerate container cold-start by detecting the bottleneck layers as well as cold-start required layers and storing them into NVM for faster container startup with limited NVM capacity. Experimental results show that N-Docker can accelerate the container deployment by 1.21X and cold-start by 2.96X. Compared to NVM-Docker, which stores all images into NVM, N-Docker achieves the same performance improvements while reducing the usage of NVM by 88.22%. © 2019, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

BACKGROUND:Evidence remains scarce regarding the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and the risk of mortality and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in psoriasis. OBJECTIVE:To explore the potential protective effect of serum 25(OH)D on the risk of mortality and CVD among patients with psoriasis. METHODS:This cohort study included 8,947 psoriasis patients and 178,937 controls identified at baseline in the UK Biobank cohort. Serum 25(OH)D levels were prospectively collected at the time of recruitment. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the associations between levels of serum 25(OH)D and risk of overall mortality and CVD incidence. RESULTS:Compared to the lowest level of serum 25(OH)D (<25 nmol/L), hazard ratios were 0.54 and 0.78 for overall mortality and incident CVD for the highest level of serum 25(OH)D (≥50 nmol/L) among psoriasis patients, respectively (all P<0.05). Psoriasis patients with serum 25(OH)D ≥50 nmol/L appeared to have no excess risk of mortality and CVD incidence, compared with matched controls. LIMITATIONS:Information on psoriasis subtypes was not available. CONCLUSION:A higher level of serum 25(OH)D was associated with a reduced risk of overall mortality and CVD in individuals with psoriasis.

Anisotropic materials, with orientation-dependent properties, have attracted more and more attention due to their compelling tunable and flexible performance in electronic and optomechanical devices. So far, two-dimensional (2D) black phosphorus shows the largest known anisotropic behavior, which is highly desired for synaptic and neuromorphic devices, multifunctional directional memories, and even polarization-sensitive photodetector, whereas it is unstable at ambient conditions. Recently, 2D few-layered As2S3 with superior chemical stability was successfully exfoliated in experiments.1 However, the electronic and mechanical properties of monolayer and bilayer As2S3 is still lacking. Here, we report the large anisotropic electronic and mechanical properties of As2S3 systems through first-principles calculations and general angle-dependent Hooke’s law. Monolayer and bilayer As2S3 exhibit anisotropic factors of Young’s modulus of 3.15 and 3.32, respectively, which are larger than the black phosphorous with experimentally confirmed and an anisotropic factor of 2.2 This study provides an effective route to flexible orientation-dependent nanoelectronics, nanomechanics, and offers implications in promoting related experimental investigations. Let Xi, i ϵ V form a Markov random field (MRF) represented by an undirected graph G = (V,E) , and V′ be a subset of V. We determine the smallest graph that can always represent the subfield Xi, i ϵ V′ as an MRF. Based on this result, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a subfield of a Markov tree to be also a Markov tree. When G is a path so that Xi, i ϵ V form a Markov chain, it is known that the I -Measure is always nonnegative (Kawabata and Yeung in 1992). We prove that Markov chain is essentially the only MRF such that the I -Measure is always nonnegative. By applying our characterization of the smallest graph representation of a subfield of an MRF, we develop a recursive approach for constructing information diagrams for MRFs. Our work is built on the set-theoretic characterization of an MRF (Yeung et al. in 2002). © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Endurable SSD-Based Read Cache for Improving the Performance of Selective Restore from Deduplication Systems

Deduplication has been commonly used in both enterprise storage systems and cloud storage. To overcome the performance challenge for the selective restore operations of deduplication systems, solid-state-drive-based （i.e., SSD-based） re^d cache cm, be deployed for speeding up by caching popular restore contents dynamically. Unfortunately, frequent data updates induced by classical cache schemes （e.g., LRU and LFU） significantly shorten SSDs＇ lifetime while slowing down I/O processes in SSDs. To address this problem, we propose a new solution -- LOP-Cache to greatly improve tile write durability of SSDs as well as I/O performance by enlarging the proportion of long-term popular （LOP） data among data written into SSD-based cache. LOP-Cache keeps LOP data in the SSD cache for a long time period to decrease the number of cache replacements. Furthermore, it prevents unpopular or unnecessary data in deduplication containers from being written into the SSD cache. We implemented LOP-Cache in a prototype deduplication system to evaluate its pertbrmance. Our experimental results indicate that LOP-Cache shortens the latency of selective restore by an average of 37.3% at the cost of a small SSD-based cache with only 5.56% capacity of the deduplicated data. Importantly, LOP-Cache improves SSDs＇ lifetime by a factor of 9.77. The evidence shows that LOP-Cache offers a cost-efficient SSD-based read cache solution to boost performance of selective restore for deduplication systems.

With the development of computer vision research, the architecture of convolutional neural network becomes more and more complex to reach the state-of-the-art performance. Is the complexity of the model necessarily proportional to its accuracy? To answer this, the compression of the network has attracted much attention in the academy and industry. Existing network pruning methods mostly rely on the scoring mechanism of complexity or diversity of kernels to compress the network, and then build the network model after removing the kernels by tuning or training on the input data. These methods are cumbersome and depend on a well-trained pre-trained model. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end block pruning method based on kernel and feature stability by pruning blocks efficiently. To accomplish this, we firstly introduce a mask to scale the output of the blocks, and the L1 regularization term to monitor the mask update. Second, we introduce the Center Loss to guarantee that the feature does not deviate greatly during learning. To converge fast, we introduce fast iterative shrinkage-thresholding algorithm (FISTA) to optimize the mask, by which a more fast and reliable pruning process is achieved. We implement experiments on different datasets, including CIFAR-10 and ImageNet ILSVRC2012. All the experiments have achieved the state-of-the-art accuracy.
