Utilizing directional information in evolved bat algorithm for guiding artificial agents

In this paper, an idea of utilizing the directional information to guide the artificial agents in the searching process is led in to the Evolved Bat Algorithm (EBA). By properly using the directional information, the guided artificial agents can present higher searching accuracy than the agents in the conventional EBA. The advantage of our proposed method guides the artificial agent to cruise along the gradient information from the known near best solutions. It results in that the searching accuracy is increased with only a slight addition to the calculation. To test the accuracy on finding the near best solutions, 2 benchmark functions, whose global optimum are known, with different dimensional criteria are used in the experiments. The experimental results are compared with the conventional EBA under the same experimental conditions. The experimental results indicate that our proposed method improves the accuracy on finding the near best solution. According to the experimental results, our proposed Directional guided Evolved Bat Algorithm (DgEBA) is significantly improved compared with the conventional EBA. © 2016, ICIC Express Letters Office. With high expansibility and efficient power usage, tiered wireless sensor networks are widely deployed in many fields as an important part of Internet of Things (IoTs). It is challenging to process range query while protecting sensitive data from adversaries. Moreover, most existing work focuses on privacy-preserving range query neglecting collusion attacks and probability attacks, which are more threatening to network security. In this paper, we first propose a secure range query protocol called secRQ, which not only protects data privacy, but also resists collusion attacks and probability attacks in tiered wireless sensor networks. Generalized inverse matrices and distance-based range query mechanism are used to guarantee security as well as high efficiency and accuracy. Besides, we propose the mutual verification scheme to verify the integrity of query results. Finally, both theoretical analysis and experimental results confirm the security, efficiency and accuracy of secRQ.

A survey about the information needs of elderly people could find out the information required to address the needs of the aged in a community. Analyzing data collected from 600 elderly people through field investigation with a questionnaire in a rural community in central China, the results show that the preferred information format of the majority of aged people is audio and/or visual information product, especially audio product. Most of the aged people stated that they were in need of healthy and medical non-educational audio information products. The survey maybe lead to improved and expanded information services for respondents who are short of such services, including Public broadcasting services, extending the audiovisual collection, loaning audiovisuals, religious faith audiovisuals and others providing needed information to them. In summary, this paper assembles views on what the elderly people currently need to be helped by both practitioners and researchers in the elderly people services domain.

Image segmentation problem is a fundamental task and process in computer vision and image processing applications. It is well known that the performance of image segmentation is mainly influenced by two factors: the segmentation approaches and the feature presentation. As for image segmentation methods, clustering algorithm is one of the most popular approaches. However, most current clustering-based segmentation methods exist some problems, such as the number of regions of image have to be given prior, the different initial cluster centers will produce different segmentation results and so on. In this paper, we present a novel image segmentation approach based on DP clustering algorithm. Compared with the current methods, our method has several improved advantages as follows: 1) This algorithm could directly give the cluster number of the image based on the decision graph; 2) The cluster centers could be identified correctly; 3) We could simply achieve the hierarchical segmentation according to the applications requirement. A lot of experiments demonstrate the validity of this novel segmentation algorithm.

In smart grid, privacy implications to individuals and their family is an important issue, due to the fine-grained usage data collection. Wireless communications are considered by many utility companies to obtain information. Network coding is exploited in smart grids, to enhance network performance in terms of throughput, delay, robustness, and energy consumption. However, Network Coding introduces new challenge for privacy preserving due to the encoding of packet in forwarder nodes. We propose a distributed privacy preserving scheme for network coding in smart grid, which considers the converged flows character of smart grid and exploits a homomorphic encryption function to decrease the complex in forwarder node. The message content of packet is encrypted and the tag of packet is encrypted by homomorphic encryption function. Then the forwarder node linear random codes the encrypted message contents and directly processes the tags cryptotext based on the homomorphism feature. It offers message content confidentiality privacy preserving feature, which can efficiently thwart traffic analysis. Extensive security analysis and performance evaluations demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed scheme. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

The Penrose pixel layout, an aperiodic pixel layout in rhombus Penrose tiling, has been shown to substantially outperform the existing square pixel layout in super-resolution. However, it was tested only on grayscale images. To study its performance on color images, we have to reconstruct regular color images from Penrose raw images, i.e., images with only one color component at each Penrose pixel, resulting in the problem of demosaicking from Penrose pixels. Penrose demosaicking is more difficult than regular demosaicking, because none of the color components of the reconstructed regular color images are available. Therefore, most of the traditional demosaicking methods do not apply. We develop a sparse representation-based method for Penrose demosaicking. Extensive experiments show that Penrose pixel layout outperforms regular pixel layouts in terms of both perceptual evaluation and S-CIELAB. The Penrose pixel layout is unique among all irregular layouts because it is uniformly three-colorable and it has only two pixel shapes, thick and thin rhombi, making its manufacturing relatively easy. © 1992-2012 IEEE.

Which One Is Better, Simple or Complex Metrics?

At the early stage of software lifecycle, the complexity measurement of UML class diagrams plays an important role in software development, testing and maintenance, and provides guidance for developing high quality software. In order to study which one is better, simple or complex metrics, this paper analyzes and compares four typical metrics of UML class diagrams from experimental software engineering view points. Understandability, analyzability and maintainability were classified and predicted for 27 class diagrams related to a banking system by means of algorithm C5.0 within the famous toolkit Weka. Results suggest that the performance of simple metrics is not inferior to that of complex metrics, in some cases even better than that of complex metrics.

This paper uses the theoretic framework of TOE(technology-organization-environment), identifies the factors promoting and hindering informatization of nursing institutions for the aged. This case study of six nursing institutions for the aged finds that different ownership institutions have some different factors promoting and hindering the process of informatization. In general, compared with public nursing institutions for the aged, private nursing institutions have more both promoting and hindering factors in technological and organizational aspect, but less hindering factors in the environmental aspect;and, risk management is an important promoting factor in the application of information systems for these institutions, it is fewer reported in other industries' study. These findings extend the application field of the TOE theory;extend the informatization study in nursing institutions for the aged. In practical,we suggest that different ownership's nursing institutions for the aged should take good advantage of promoting factors considering their own resources, overcome the hindering factors to ensure the successful implementation of the informatization.

The aging of population has become a global trend and the critical knowledge of enterprises may be lost with the retirement of senior employees. Task-based cooperation is an important method to prevent the loss of knowledge and to promote the knowledge sharing behavior between senior employees and young ones. This paper constructs the knowledge contribution payoff functions of senior employees and young ones in the context of task-based cooperation and analyzes the knowledge contribution behavior using static game theory with complete information, and then we obtain Nash equilibrium solutions under different conditions. The results suggest that enterprises can promote knowledge contribution of senior employees and young ones in the process of task-based cooperation by improving social rate of return(e.g., creating a good cultural atmosphere), reducing cost rate of knowledge contribution (e.g., training on knowledge expression), raising economic rate of return and providing monetary compensation according to the contribution of knowledge, whether the marginal payoff of employees' knowledge contribution is increasing, invariant or diminishing. Since the formation of social return is difficult in the short term, giving economic incentives can be an effective way at the beginning. With the progress of task-based cooperation between senior employees and young ones, the amount of employees' knowledge (especially of young ones'), the productivity of knowledge contribution, the collaborative efficiency and social rate of return will increase and therefore economic incentives contributing to cooperation between both players may decrease appropriately. The findings of this paper are beneficial to understand knowledge sharing behavior in the context of task-based cooperation, and provide several incentive mechanisms for enterprises to promote knowledge sharing between senior employees and young ones.

Developers work in the IDE, but search online resources in the web browser. The separation of the working and search context often cause the ignorance of the working context during online search. Several tools have been proposed to integrate the web browser into the IDE so that developers can search and use online resources directly in the IDE. These tools enable only the shallow integration of the web browser and the IDE. Some tools allow the developer to augment search queries with program entities in the current snapshot of the code. In this paper, we present an in-IDE ambient search agent to bridge the separation of the developer's working context and search context. Our approach considers the developers' working context in the IDE as a time-series stream of programming event observed from the developer's interaction with the IDE over time. It supports the deeper integration of the working context in the entire search process from query formulation, custom search, to search results refinement and representation. We have implemented our ambient search agent and integrate it into the Eclipse IDE. We conducted a user study to evaluate our approach and the tool support. Our evaluation shows that our ambient search agent can better aid developers in searching and using online programming resources while working in the IDE.
