Assessing and characterizing oilseed rape freezing injury based on MODIS and MERIS data

In this paper, to exploit more discriminative information of the global-body and body-parts features, we present a novel deep multi-metric learning (DMML) network for person re-identification under the triplet framework. The main novelty of our learning framework lies in two aspects: 1) Unlike most existing metric learning-based approaches, which learn only one distance metric for comparison, our DMM-L method aims to learn different metrics for the global-body and body-parts features respectively by using convolutional neural network (CNN); 2) A new multi-metric loss function is proposed to train the DMML network, under which the distance of each negative pair is greater than that of each positive pair by a predefined margin, and the correlations of different metrics are maximized. Compared with the previous person re-identification methods that have shown state-of-the-art performances, our DMML approach can achieve competitive results on the challenging CUHK03, CUHKOl, VIPeR and iLIDS datasets.

Many Zintl phases are promising thermoelectric materials owning to their features like narrow band gaps, multiband behaviors, ideal charge transport tunnels, and loosely bound cations. Herein we show a new Zintl phase NaCdSb with exceptional intrinsic thermoelectric performance. Pristine NaCdSb exhibits semiconductor behaviors with an experimental hole concentration of 2.9×10 18 cm −3 and a calculated band gap of 0.5 eV. As the temperature increases, the hole concentration rises gradually and approaches its optimal one, leading to a high power factor of 11.56 μW cm −1 K −2 at 673 K. The ultralow thermal conductivity is derived from the small phonon group velocity and short phonon lifetime, ascribed to the structural anharmonicity of Cd−Sb bonds. As a consequence, a maximum zT of 1.3 at 673 K has been achieved without any doping optimization or structural modification, demonstrating that NaCdSb is a remarkable thermoelectric compound with great potential for performance improvement.

Mobile crowd sensing has the potential to acquire massive data from places and address large-scale societal problems. However, most currently existing crowd sensing systems suffer from insufficient participants. Therefore, incentive design for crowd sensing is essential and urgent. In this paper, different from the auction-based and server-dominant incentives, we design a personalized incentive, PIE, with partiality for neither the server nor the participants with budget constraint. The total payment for all the participants accords to their collective participation level, and the individual reward for each participant depends on individual contribution. We measure the individual contribution and participation level based on Voronoi diagram and Shannon entropy. Both offline and online incentives are proposed with budget constraint. Experimental study shows that our incentives are participation-aware and contribution-dependent, which encourages participants' active join, balanced distribution and flexible reward.

Set similarity join is an essential operation in big data analytics, e.g., data integration and data cleaning, that finds similar pairs from two collections of sets. To cope with the increasing scale of the data, distributed algorithms are called for to support large-scale set similarity joins. Multiple techniques have been proposed to perform similarity joins using MapReduce in recent years. These techniques, however, usually produce huge amounts of duplicates in order to perform parallel processing successfully as MapReduce is a shared-nothing framework. The large number of duplicates incurs on both large shuffle cost and unnecessary computation cost, which significantly decrease the performance. Moreover, these approaches do not provide a load balancing guarantee, which results in a skewness problem and negatively affects the scalability properties of these techniques. To address these problems, in this paper, we propose a duplicate free framework, called FS-Join, to perform set similarity joins efficiently by utilizing an innovative vertical partitioning technique. FS-Join employs three powerful filtering methods to prune dissimilar string pairs without computing their similarity scores. To further improve the performance and scalability, FS-Join integrates horizontal partitioning. Experimental results on three real datasets show that FS-Join outperforms the state-of-Theart methods by one order of magnitude on average, which demonstrates the good scalability and performance qualities of the proposed technique. © 2017 IEEE.

Land use reflects human activities on *** land use is the highest level human alteration on Earth,and it is rapidly changing due to population increase and *** areas have widespread effects on local hydrology,climate,biodiversity,and food production[1,2].However,maps,that contain knowledge on the distribution,pattern and composition of various land use types in urban areas,are limited to city *** mapping standard on data sources,methods,land use classification schemes varies from city to city,due to differences in financial input and skills of mapping *** address various national and global environmental challenges caused by urbanization,it is important to have urban land uses at the national and global scales that are derived from the same or consistent data sources with the same or compatible classification systems and mapping *** is because,only with urban land use maps produced with similar criteria,consistent environmental policies can be made,and action efforts can be compared and assessed for large scale environmental ***,despite of the fact that a number of urban-extent maps exist at global scales[3,4],more detailed urban land use maps do not exist at the same *** at big country or regional levels such as for the United States,China and European Union,consistent land use mapping efforts are rare[5,6](e.g.,https://***/open_land_use/).

Growth stage information is a very primary parameter for managing the grain crop. In this study, time series Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) data in 2015 were obtained in Anhui Province, China based on 8-day composite MOD09A1 data products, and the extraction method of rice phenology was specifically analyzed at a provincial scale. HANTS (Harmonic Analysis of Time Series) filtering algorithm was firstly used to smooth the time series EVI curves and identify every growth and development period of paddy rice. The results indicate that HANTS has a better performance in removing noise, restoring original information and retain the change information of multi-temporal EVI curves. The primary planting regions were located in the southern Huai-River areas, from early June to late June in 2015. It turned into the transplanting stage in succession from south to north and followed by the heading stage in succession in early August. From early September to late October, it turned into mature stage from south to north in succession. © 2017 IEEE.

Cooperator-driven and defector-driven punishments: How do they influence cooperation?

Economic studies have shown that there are two types of regulation schemes which can be considered as a vital part of today’s global economy: self-regulation enforced by self-regulation organizations to govern industry practices, and government regulation which is considered as another scheme to sustain corporate adherence. An outstanding problem of particular interest is to understand quantitatively the role of these regulation schemes in evolutionary dynamics. Typically, punishment usually occurs for enforcement of regulations. Taking into account both types of punishments to curve the regulations, we develop a game model where six evolutionary situations with corresponding combinations of strategies are considered. Furthermore, a semi-analytical method is developed to allow us to give an accurate estimations of the boundaries between the phases of full defection and nondefection. We find that, associated with the evolutionary dynamics, for infinite well-mixed population, the mix of both punishments performs better than one punishment alone in promoting public cooperation, but for networked population the cooperator-driven punishment turns out to be a better choice. We also uncover monotonous facilitating effects of synergy effect, punishment fine and feedback sensitivity on the public cooperation for infinite well-mixed population. Conversely, for networked population an optimal intermediate range of feedback sensitivity is needed to best promote punishers’ populations. Overall, networked structure is overall more favorable for punishers and further for public cooperation, because of both network reciprocity and mutualism between punishers and cooperators who do not punish defectors. We provide physical understandings of the observed phenomena, through a detailed statistical analysis of frequencies of different strategies and spatial pattern formations in different evolution situations. HelPal: A Search System for Mobile Crowd Service

Proliferation of ubiquitous mobile devices makes location based services prevalent. Mobile users are able to volunteer as providers of specific services and in the meanwhile to search these services. For example, drivers may be interested in tracking available nearby users who are willing to help with motor repair or are willing to provide travel directions or first aid. With the diffusion of mobile users, it is necessary to provide scalable means of enabling such users to connect with other nearby users so that they can help each other with specific services. Motivated by these observations, we design and implement a general location based system HelPal for mobile users to provide and enjoy instant service, which is called mobile crowd service. In this demo, we introduce a mobile crowd service system featured with several novel techniques. We sketch the system architecture and illustrate scenarios via several cases. Demonstration shows the user-friendly search interface for users to conveniently find skilled and qualified nearby service providers. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Catalytic ativities of single-atom catalysts for CO oxidation: Pt_1/FeO_x vs. Fe_1/FeO_x

An FeOx‐based Pt single‐atom catalyst(SAC),Pt1/FeOx,has stimulated significant recent interest owing to its extraordinary activity toward CO *** concept of SAC has also been successfully extended to other FeOx supported transition metal systems both experimentally and ***,the FeOx substrate itself(denoted by Fe1/FeOx following the same nomenclature of Pt1/FeOx)as a typical transition metal oxide possesses a very low catalytic activity toward CO oxidation,although it can be viewed as Fe1/FeOx ***,to understand the catalytic mechanism of FeOx‐based SACs for CO oxidation,we have performed density functional theory calculations on Pt1/FeOx and Fe1/FeOx for CO oxidation to address the differences between these two SACs in terms of the catalytic mechanism of CO oxidation and the chemical behavior of the *** calculation results indicated that the catalytic cycle of Fe1/FeOx is much more difficult to accomplish than that of SAC Pt1/FeOx because of a high activation barrier(1.09eV)for regeneration of the oxygen vacancy formed when the second CO2molecule desorbs from the ***,density of states and Bader charge analysis revealed differences in the catalytic performance for CO oxidation by the SACs Fe1/FeOx and Pt1/*** work provides insights into the fundamental interactions between the single‐atom Pt1and FeOx substrate,and the exceptional catalytic performance of this system for CO oxidation.
