RGB-thermal semantic segmentation is a potential solution for reliable semantic scene understanding under adverse weather and complex lighting conditions. However, past studies have primarily focused on the design of fusion paradigms. Unfortunately, these methods have not fully considered the modality differences caused by different imaging mechanisms, thereby reducing the performance of pixel-level semantic analysis. In response to this issue, this paper proposes an innovative Cross-Modality Comprehensive Feature Aggregation Network (CFANet). This method first designs a Cross-Modality Feature Rectification Module (CFRM) to align modality differences; then, it constructs a Global-Local Fusion Module (GLF) to sharpen object edges and refine the segmentation map. Results on two urban scene understanding datasets demonstrate that CFANet can effectively aggregate multi-layer deep features and outperform existing advanced deep learning methods in scene understanding performance.

Unifying Large Language Models and knowledge Graphs: A Roadmap

Large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT and GPT4, are making new waves in the field of natural language processing and artificial intelligence, due to their emergent ability and generalizability. However, LLMs are black-box models, which often fall short of capturing and accessing factual knowledge. In contrast, knowledge Graphs (KGs), Wikipedia and Huapu for example, are structured knowledge models that explicitly store rich factual knowledge. KGs can enhance LLMs by providing external knowledge for inference and interpretability. Meanwhile, KGs are difficult to construct and evolve by nature, which challenges the existing methods in KGs to generate new facts and represent unseen knowledge. Therefore, it is complementary to unify LLMs and KGs together and simultaneously leverage their advantages. In this article, we present a forward-looking roadmap for the unification of LLMs and KGs. Our roadmap consists of three general frameworks, namely, 1) KG-enhanced LLMs, which incorporate KGs during the pre-training and inference phases of LLMs, or for the purpose of enhancing understanding of the knowledge learned by LLMs;2) LLM-augmented KGs, that leverage LLMs for different KG tasks such as embedding, completion, construction, graph-to-text generation, and question answering;and 3) Synergized LLMs + KGs, in which LLMs and KGs play equal roles and work in a mutually beneficial way to enhance both LLMs and KGs for bidirectional reasoning driven by both data and knowledge. We review and summarize existing efforts within these three frameworks in our roadmap and pinpoint their future research directions. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Emotion recognition in conversation (ERC) aims at accurately identifying emotional states expressed in conversational content. Existing ERC methods, although relying on semantic understanding, often encounter challenges when confronted with incomplete or misleading semantic information. In addition, when dealing with the interaction between emotional and semantic information, existing methods are often difficult to effectively distinguish the complex relationship between the two, which affects the accuracy of emotion recognition. To address the problems of semantic misdirection and emotional cross-talk encountered by traditional models when confronted with complex conversational data, we propose a semantic and emotional dual channel (SEDC) strategy for emotion recognition in conversations to process emotional and semantic information independently. Under this strategy, emotion information provides an auxiliary recognition function when the semantics are unclear or lacking, enhancing the accuracy of the model. Our model consists of two modules: the emotion processing module accurately captures the emotional features of each utterance through contrastive learning, and then constructs a dialogue emotion propagation map to simulate the emotional information conveyed in the dialogue;the semantic processing module combines an external knowledge base to enhance the semantic expression of the dialogue through knowledge enhancement strategies. This divide-and-conquer approach allows us to more deeply analyze the emotional and semantic dimensions of complex dialogues. Experimental results on the IEMOCAP, EmoryNLP, MELD, and DailyDialog datasets show that our approach significantly outperforms existing techniques and effectively improves the accuracy of dialogue emotion recognition. Generalized Category Discovery with Large Language Models in the Loop

Generalized Category Discovery (GCD) is a crucial task that aims to recognize both known and novel categories from a set of unlabeled data by utilizing a few labeled data with only known categories. Due to the lack of supervision and category information, current methods usually perform poorly on novel categories and struggle to reveal semantic meanings of the discovered clusters, which limits their applications in the real world. To mitigate the above issues, we propose Loop, an end-to-end active-learning framework that introduces Large Language Models (LLMs) 1 into the training loop, which can boost model performance and generate category names without relying on any human efforts. Specifically, we first propose Local Inconsistent Sampling (LIS) to select samples that have a higher probability of falling to wrong clusters, based on neighborhood prediction consistency and entropy of cluster assignment probabilities. Then we propose a Scalable Query strategy to allow LLMs to choose true neighbors of the selected samples from multiple candidate samples. Based on the feedback from LLMs, we perform Refined Neighborhood Contrastive Learning (RNCL) to pull samples and their neighbors closer to learn clustering-friendly representations. Finally, we select representative samples from clusters corresponding to novel categories to allow LLMs to generate category names for them. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets show that Loop outperforms SOTA models by a large margin and generates accurate category names for the discovered clusters. Post-hoc explanations are important for people to understand the predictions of explanation models. One class of methods in post-hoc explanation is the generation of counterfactuals, where a hypothetical example is obtained by perturbing the inputs to show how one could obtain a different prediction from the decision model. Counter-factual explanations should satisfy several properties: One is that counterfactuals generated under specific scenarios and constraints should be feasible for users, i.e., they should accommodate different causal constraints. The other is that it is more desirable for users to have a wider variety of viable examples, i.e., counterfactual diversity. To this end, we propose a parallelizable method based on gradient optimization. We partition the input feasible domains, perform counterfactual generation independently for each feasible domain, and then parallelize the counterfactual generation process for each feasible domain. Experimental results show that our approach effectively improves the diversity, sparsity, and proximity of the generated counterfactual instances on the public datasets Adult-Income, Lending-Club, German-Credit, and COMPAS compared to other models. © 2023 IEEE.

CMCache: An Adaptive Cross-Level data Placement Method for Multi-Level Cache

Multi-level cache systems enhance I/O performance by optimizing data placement across various cache levels from a global perspective. However, existing methods often struggle to place data at the optimal cache level promptly due to their reliance on historical access patterns and inflexible placement strategies. These methods face two main challenges: (1) For already cached data with sufficient access history, existing approaches only optimize movement between adjacent cache levels, potentially delaying data arrival at its globally optimal cache level and leading to unnecessary bandwidth consumption and increased latency. (2) For newly entered data without access history, current methods cannot accurately predict their future hotness and simply place them at a fixed cache level (i.e. first or last level), overlooking future accesses of new data and potentially resulting in high cache miss rates or cache pollution. To address these issues, we propose CMCache, an adaptive cross-level data placement method for multi-level cache. CMCache applies distinct placement strategies for cached and new data to reach the optimal level timely, considering their different characteristics. It also logically divides cache space into two sections to manage cached and new data separately, dynamically adjusting section sizes based on access patterns. This approach significantly improves data placement efficiency, achieving up to an 89% reduction in miss rates and a 79% decrease in average response times compared to existing methods. © 2025 IEEE.

Homophily Induced Contrastive Attributed Graph Clustering

Attributed graph clustering, aiming to discover the underlying graph structure and partition the graph nodes into several disjoint categories, is a basic task in graph data analysis. Although recent efforts over graph contrastive clustering have achieved decent performances, most of them get accustomed to construct the positive neighbor set by the generated pseudo clustering information, directly ignoring the ready-made neighbor nodes and the underlying semantics of edges in a graph. How to well deal with the graph neighbor-specific information to facilitate the performance of graph contrastive clustering is still a challenging problem. Therefore, in this work, we propose a novel Homophily Induced Contrastive Attributed Graph Clustering (HomoCAGC) method, where the power of homophily is exploited in facilitating the performance of contrastive attributed graph clustering, while the pseudo homophily in a graph is also explored and distinguished. Especially, the node feature as reliable information guidance is used to compute the underlying feature-oriented pair-wise node similarity, based on which the positive node pairs in contrastive regularizer are adjusted for better node representation characterization. According to the refined node representations, a triplet self-supervised clustering objective is well-designed to ensure the output embedding is cluster-oriented, and suitable for the downstream clustering task. Extensive experiments on seven benchmarks are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of HomoCAGC. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Improving the risk prevention capability of grid operations is a crucial requirement for smart resilient grids, where efficient dispatch and scheduling of delivery capacity play a pivotal role in enhancing grid resilience. Therefore, it is necessary to develop targeted intelligent dispatch algorithms based on operational data. To address this issue, this paper proposes a framework with inherent constraints and utilizes reinforcement learning using recursive neural networks. A constraint module is designed to identify available vehicle combinations based on de-livery capacity, allocate goods considering vehicle number, load, and size constraints, and generate delivery routes sequentially. Additionally, a reinforcement learning model is introduced, using negative trip length as a reward signal, optimizing parameters of the recursive neural network through policy gradient methods to automatically improve strategies for selecting optimal deliv-ery routes with improved vehicle combinations. To validate the effectiveness of this algorithm, extensive experiments were conducted using both real-world application validation data and the TSPLIB public dataset. Within a limited computational budget, the proposed algorithm outperforms several mature methods in terms of effectiveness and real-time performance, achieving near-optimal results in Euclidean graphs with nearly 100 nodes. Given some video-query pairs with untrimmed videos and sentence queries, temporal sentence grounding (TSG) aims to locate query-relevant segments in these videos. Although previous respectable TSG methods have achieved remarkable success, they train each video-query pair separately and ignore the relationship between different pairs. To this end, in this paper, we pose a brand-new setting: Multi-Pair TSG, which aims to co-train these pairs. We propose a novel video-query co-training approach, Multi-Thread knowledge Transfer Network, to locate a variety of video-query pairs effectively and efficiently. Firstly, we mine the spatial and temporal semantics across different queries to cooperate with each other. To learn intra- and inter-modal representations simultaneously, we design a cross-modal contrast module to explore the semantic consistency by a self-supervised strategy. To fully align visual and textual representations between different pairs, we design a prototype alignment strategy to 1) match object prototypes and phrase prototypes for spatial alignment, and 2) align activity prototypes and sentence prototypes for temporal alignment. Finally, we develop an adaptive negative selection module to adaptively generate a threshold for cross-modal matching. Relep: Region and Edge Synergetic Level Set Model Based on Edge-Enhanced Entropy and Variable Exponential P-Laplace Equation

Image segmentation under conditions such as noise and intensity inhomogeneity poses a significant challenge for models. Hybrid level set approaches integrating area and edge information show promise in addressing these challenges. In this study, we propose a novel hybrid level set model, called region and edge synergetic level set model based on edge-enhanced entropy and variable exponential p-Laplace equation (RELEP), which is based on an edge-enhanced entropy and a variable exponential p-Laplace equation. Firstly, a new probability distribution is defined to enhance the edge extraction ability of image entropy in the presence of image intensity inhomogeneity and noise, termed as edge-enhanced entropy. The feature map obtained after edge-enhanced entropy processing is then used to co-fit the energy function with the original map to form the region term. Furthermore, the incorporation of edge-enhanced entropy into the p-Laplace equation leads to the formation of a variable exponential p-Laplace equation edge term. This integration facilitates the acquisition of precise and smooth boundaries, while simultaneously bolstering the robustness of the model. Finally, by incorporating the region term and edge term into the variational level set framework, the RELEP model is proposed. Experimental results on both synthetic and natural images demonstrate that the proposed RELEP model outperforms several representative and state-of-the-art models in terms of segmentation performance. © 2023, The Authors.
