Webshell, as the"culprit" behind numerous network attacks, is one of the research hotspots in the field of cybersecurity. However, the complexity, stealthiness, and confusing nature of webshells pose significant challenges to the corresponding detection schemes. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, researchers have started to apply different intelligent algorithms and neural network architectures to the task of webshell detection. However, the related research still lacks a systematic and standardized methodological process, which is confusing and redundant. Therefore, following the development timeline, we carefully summarize the progress of relevant research in this field, dividing it into three stages: Start Stage, Initial Development Stage, and In-depth Development Stage. We further elaborate on the main characteristics and core algorithms of each stage. In addition, we analyze the pain points and challenges that still exist in this field and predict the future development trend of this field from our point of view. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review that details the research related to AI-based webshell detection. It is also hoped that this paper can provide detailed technical information for more researchers interested in AI-based webshell detection tasks. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Visual analytic systems usually provide multiple coordinated views (MCVs) to support data analysis and exploration. Coordination in visual graphics plays an important role in facilitating comprehensive analytical tasks, such as data comparison and cognitive inference. However, individual views in MCVs are probably designed for a specific purpose based on a particular type of data, and insufficient consideration of the intricate relationships among views may lead to inconsistency in visual representation and user interaction across different views. To better understand the inconsistency issues in MCVs and their impacts on user behaviors, this paper reports a study on the analysis and classification of visualization inconsistency based on the reviews of interactive visualization designs and visual analytic systems, and the interviews with stakeholders. We find that inconsistencies are prevalent in MCVs and frequently lead to misleading or even incorrect results. We classify the discovered inconsistencies based on a coordination model of MCVs, and develop an empirical guide for systematic and efficient visualization consistency checking in the design, implementation, and evaluation stage.

Recent advances in single image super-resolution (SISR) have achieved remarkable performance through deep learning. However, the high computational cost hinders the deployment of SISR models on edge devices. Instead of proposing new SISR models, a new trend is emerging to improve network efficiency by reducing parameters, FLOPs, and inference time through slight modifications to the original models. However, recent methods usually focus on reducing only one of three metrics, i.e., FLOPs, parameters and inference time, which inevitably increases the other two metrics. In this paper, we propose a novel Adaptive Student Inference Network (ASIN) on popular SISR models, which aims at reducing FLOPs and inference time while maintaining the number of parameters and restoring clearer high-resolution images. Specifically, our ASIN divides a SISR model into three components (head, body and tail) and adopts various strategies for each part. For head and tail parts, to ensure the restored images contain more detailed information, a novel auxiliary Enhanced Teacher Network (ETNet) is designed, which is trained with the ground-truth images to obtain more prior knowledge to guide student network to extract more accurate textures using a new knowledge distillation method. For the body part, owing to the varying difficulties of the reconstructions in different regions, we propose an Adaptive Depth Predicted Module (ADPM) to dynamically shorten average depth of network to reduce the computational cost of overall network. Extensive experiments on two datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and state-of-the-art performance of our ASIN compared to its counterparts.

Multilevel Perception Boundary-guided Network for Breast Lesion Segmentation in Ultrasound Images

Automatic segmentation of breast tumors from the ultrasound images is essential for the subsequent clinical diagnosis and treatment plan. Although the existing deep learning-based methods have achieved significant progress in automatic segmentation of breast tumor, their performance on tumors with similar intensity to the normal tissues is still not pleasant, especially for the tumor boundaries. To address this issue, we propose a PBNet composed by a multilevel global perception module (MGPM) and a boundary guided module (BGM) to segment breast tumors from ultrasound images. Specifically, in MGPM, the long-range spatial dependence between the voxels in a single level feature maps are modeled, and then the multilevel semantic information is fused to promote the recognition ability of the model for non-enhanced tumors. In BGM, the tumor boundaries are extracted from the high-level semantic maps using the dilation and erosion effects of max pooling, such boundaries are then used to guide the fusion of low and high-level features. Moreover, to improve the segmentation performance for tumor boundaries, a multi-level boundary-enhanced segmentation (BS) loss is proposed. The extensive comparison experiments on both publicly available dataset and in-house dataset demonstrate that the proposed PBNet outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of both qualitative visualization results and quantitative evaluation metrics, with the Dice score, Jaccard coefficient, Specificity and HD95 improved by 0.70%, 1.1%, 0.1% and 2.5% respectively. In addition, the ablation experiments validate that the proposed MGPM is indeed beneficial for distinguishing the non-enhanced tumors and the BGM as well as the BS loss are also helpful for refining the segmentation contours of the tumor. The main objective of incomplete multi-view clustering is to effectively utilize the existing view information to fill in the missing data and to mine the complementary information and potential associations between multiple views to effectively group samples. The existing primary means for recovering missing information are classified into two parts: one uses matrix decomposition or low-rank constraints to fill in the missing views, and the other constructs multiple graph structures and uses graph regularization to recover the corresponding missing parts. However, the two methods are relatively independent and are not used jointly to improve the model performance. This paper proposes an incomplete multi-view clustering method with complete clustering metrics and complete anchor graphs (CFAG). Specifically, each view’s missing samples are recovered by a matrix of consistent clustering metrics and represented by an anchor graph. The recovered complete data performs anchor graph construction and anchor learning and utilizes the orthogonal variation principle to learn the consistency structure of multiple anchor graphs to mine the complementary information among multiple views. The clustering metrics are obtained based on the consistency structure, and the consistency of the clustering metrics is also considered to obtain the final clustering results. Replace2Self: Self-Supervised Denoising based on Voxel Replacing and Image Mixing for Diffusion MRI

Low signal to noise ratio (SNR) remains one of the limitations of diffusion weighted (DW) imaging. How to suppress the influence of noise on the subsequent analysis about the tissue microstructure is still challenging. This work proposed a novel self-supervised learning model, Replace2Self, to effectively reduce spatial correlated noise in DW images. Specifically, a voxel replacement strategy based on similar block matching in Q-space was proposed to destroy the correlations of noise in DW image along one diffusion gradient direction. To alleviate the signal gap caused by the voxel replacement, an image mixing strategy based on complementary mask was designed to generate two different noisy DW images. After that, these two noisy DW images were taken as input, and the non-correlated noisy DWimage after voxel replacement was taken as learning target, a denoising network was trained for denoising. To promote the denoising performance, a complementary mask mixing consistency loss and an inverse replacement regularization loss were also proposed. Through the comparisons against several existing DW image denoising methods on extensive simulation data with different noise distributions, noise levels and b-values, as well as the acquisition datasets and the ablation experiments, we verified the effectiveness of the proposed method. Regardless of the noise distribution and noise level, the proposed method achieved the highest PSNR, which was at least 1.9% higher than the suboptimal method when the noise level reaches 10%. Furthermore, our method has superior generalization ability due to the use of the proposed strategies. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Detection of ChatGPT Fake Science with the xFakeSci Learning Algorithm

Generative AI tools exemplified by ChatGPT are becoming a new reality. This study is motivated by the premise that "AI generated content may exhibit a distinctive behavior that can be separated from scientific articles". In this study, we show how articles can be generated using means of prompt engineering for various diseases and conditions. We then show how we tested this premise in two phases and prove its validity. Subsequently, we introduce xFakeSci, a novel learning algorithm, that is capable of distinguishing ChatGPT-generated articles from publications produced by scientists. The algorithm is trained using network models driven from both sources. To mitigate overfitting issues, we incorporated a calibration step that is built upon data-driven heuristics, including proximity and ratios. Specifically, from a total of a 3952 fake articles for three different medical conditions, the algorithm was trained using only 100 articles, but calibrated using folds of 100 articles. As for the classification step, it was performed using 300 articles per condition. The actual label steps took place against an equal mix of 50 generated articles and 50 authentic PubMed abstracts. The testing also spanned publication periods from 2010 to 2024 and encompassed research on three distinct diseases: cancer, depression, and Alzheimer’s. Further, we evaluated the accuracy of the xFakeSci algorithm against some of the classical data mining algorithms (e.g., Support Vector Machines, Regression, and Naive Bayes). The xFakeSci algorithm achieved F1 scores ranging from 80% to 94%, outperforming common data mining algorithms, which scored F1 values between 38% and 52%. We attribute the noticeable difference to the introduction of calibration and a proximity distance heuristic, which underscores this promising performance. Objective: Accurate decoding of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals has become more significant for the brain-computer interface (BCI). Specifically, motor imagery and motor execution (MI/ME) tasks enable the control of external devices by decoding EEG signals during imagined or real movements. However, accurately decoding MI/ME signals remains a challenge due to the limited utilization of temporal information and ineffective feature selection methods. Methods: This paper introduces DMSACNN, an end-to-end deep multiscale attention convolutional neural network for MI/ME-EEG decoding. DMSACNN incorporates a deep multiscale temporal feature extraction module to capture temporal features at various levels. These features are then processed by a spatial convolutional module to extract spatial features. Finally, a local and global feature fusion attention module is utilized to combine local and global information and extract the most discriminative spatiotemporal features. Main results: DMSACNN achieves impressive accuracies of 78.20%, 96.34% and 70.90% for hold-out analysis on the BCI-IV-2a, High Gamma and OpenBMI datasets, respectively, outperforming most of the state-of-the-art methods. Conclusion and significance: These results highlight the potential of DMSACNN in robust BCI applications. Our proposed method provides a valuable solution to improve the accuracy of the MI/ME-EEG decoding, which can pave the way for more efficient and reliable BCI systems. Understanding the Bad Development Practices of Android Custom Permissions in the Wild

Android system provides application developers with the ability to define custom permissions, which serve to regulate the sharing of resources and functionalities with other applications. However, developers' improper development practices can render the permission mechanism ineffective, facilitating easy exploitation by attackers. This paper presents a comprehensive examination of the problematic practices surrounding custom permissions employed by developers, referred to as Bad Practices of Custom Permissions (BPCP issues). To accomplish this, we conducted an empirical study and identified nine common BPCP issue patterns that can lead to various adverse consequences, such as installation failures, crashes, and even component hijacking. To automatically identify these patterns of bad practices, we devised PERMEAGRE, a static analysis tool. Employing PERMEAGRE, we performed a large-scale analysis of 83,085 applications obtained from seven major app markets, aiming to detect instances of BPCP issues. The results revealed that more than 26% of the analyzed apps contained at least one issue, and a significant number of apps had garnered millions of downloads. Our analysis delved into the underlying causes of these issues. Consequently, this analysis sheds light on the potential threat landscape associated with bad practices in custom permissions, emphasizing the urgent requirement for effective mitigation strategies. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Semi-autoregressive transformer for image captioning

Current state-of-the-art image captioning models adopt autoregressive decoders, i.e. they generate each word by conditioning on previously generated words, which leads to heavy latency during inference. To tackle this issue, non-autoregressive image captioning models have recently been proposed to significantly accelerate the speed of inference by generating all words in parallel. However, these non-autoregressive models inevitably suffer from large generation quality degradation since they remove words dependence excessively. To make a better trade-off between speed and quality, we introduce a semi-autoregressive model for image captioning (dubbed as SATIC), which keeps the autoregressive property in global but generates words parallelly in local. Based on Transformer, there are only a few modifications needed to implement SATIC. Experimental results on the MSCOCO image captioning benchmark show that SATIC can achieve a good trade-off without bells and whistles. Code is available at https://***/YuanEZhou/satic.
