The existing code injection attack defense methods have some deficiencies on performance overhead and effectiveness. In order to ensure the system performance, we propose a method that uses system call randomization to counter code injection attacks based on instruction set randomization idea. An injected code would perform its actions with system calls. System call randomization on operating system level will prevent the injected code from executing correctly. Moreover, with an extended compiler, our method can perform source code randomization during compiling and implement binary executable files randomization by feature matching. The experiments show that our method can effectively counter variety code injection attacks with low overhead.

A decomposition method to solve the large-scale scheduling problems is proposed in this paper. Focused on largescale scheduling problems, introducing cellular manufacturing technology to decompose scheduling problems, a collaborative scheduling process based on manufacturing cells is designed. Moreover, focused on the coupling problem in scheduling process in the context of cellular manufacturing, a decomposition method is suggested to achieve the decomposition of cross-cell jobs. Finally, the whole scheduling process is simplified through redefining the environment of cellular manufacturing. © 2011 IEEE.

Partial Multi-label Learning (PML) aims to induce the multi-label predictor from datasets with noisy supervision, where each training instance is associated with several candidate labels but only partially valid. To address the noisy issue, the existing PML methods basically recover the ground-truth labels by leveraging the ground-truth confidence of the candidate label, i.e., the likelihood of a candidate label being a ground-truth one. However, they neglect the information from non-candidate labels, which potentially contributes to the ground-truth label recovery. In this paper, we propose to recover the ground-truth labels, i.e., estimating the ground-truth confidences, from the label enrichment, composed of the relevance degrees of candidate labels and irrelevance degrees of non-candidate labels. Upon this observation, we further develop a novel two-stage PML method, namely Partial MultiLabel Learning with Label Enrichment-Recovery (PML3ER), where in the first stage, it estimates the label enrichment with unconstrained label propagation, then jointly learns the ground-truth confidence and multi-label predictor given the label enrichment. In the field of intelligent education, knowledge tracing (KT) has attracted increasing attention, which estimates and traces students’ mastery of knowledge concepts to provide high-quality education. In KT, there are natural graph structures among questions and knowledge concepts so some studies explored the application of graph neural networks (GNNs) to improve the performance of the KT models which have not used graph structure. However, most of them ignored both the questions’ difficulties and students’ attempts at questions. Actually, questions with the same knowledge concepts have different difficulties, and students’ different attempts also represent different knowledge mastery. In this paper, we propose a difficulty and attempts boosted graph-based KT (DAGKT)3, using rich information from students’ records. Moreover, a novel method is designed to establish the question similarity relationship inspired by the F1 score. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed DAGKT. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we discuss the energy efficient multicast problem for discrete power levels in ad hoc sensor wireless networks. The problem of our concern is: given n nodes and each node v has l(v) transmission power levels and a multicast request (s, D), how to find a multicast tree rooted at s and spanning all destinations in D such that the total energy cost of the multicast tree is minimized. This problem is NP-hard. We propose a NWM_DST algorithm which has a theoretical guaranteed approximation performance ratio, and two efficient heuristics MNJT and g-D-MIP for multicast tree problem. Simulation results have shown efficiency of our proposed algorithms.

In many recommender systems, users and items are associated with attributes, and users show preferences to items. The attribute information describes users’ (items’) characteristics and has a wide range of applications, such as user profiling, item annotation, and feature-enhanced recommendation. As annotating user (item) attributes is a labor intensive task, the attribute values are often incomplete with many missing attribute values. Therefore, item recommendation and attribute inference have become two main tasks in these platforms. Researchers have long converged that user (item) attributes and the preference behavior are highly correlated. Some researchers proposed to leverage one kind of data for the remaining task, and showed to improve performance. Nevertheless, these models either neglected the incompleteness of user (item) attributes or regarded the correlation of the two tasks with simple models, leading to suboptimal performance of these two tasks. To this end, in this paper, we define these two tasks in an attributed user-item bipartite graph, and propose an Adaptive Graph Convolutional Network (AGCN) approach for joint item recommendation and attribute inference. The key idea of AGCN is to iteratively perform two parts: 1) Learning graph embedding parameters with previously learned approximated attribute values to facilitate two tasks;2) Sending the approximated updated attribute values back to the attributed graph for better graph embedding learning. Therefore, AGCN could adaptively adjust the graph embedding learning parameters by incorporating both the given attributes and the estimated attribute values, in order to provide weakly supervised information to refine the two tasks. Pressure injury (PI) is one of the major causes of short-term death. Early intervention for patients at risk plays an essential role in PI. However, many nurses may ignore risks. This paper aims to establish a model to predict interventions according to the patient's physical signs, which can help nurses develop care plans. We used data from 1, 483 patients with 25 characteristics and 17 interventions. We use the Random Forest and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize model parameters. Then we compared it with KNN, SVM, and Decision Tree. The 10-fold cross-validation result showed that the Random Forest has better accuracy than other methods, with an f1 score of 0.84. This finding proved the feasibility of using machine learning to help formulate care plans according to the classification of index prediction results. Our model shows that hemoglobin, Braden PI score, and age are the three most influential risk factors. © 2021 IEEE.

Logical reasoning task has attracted great interest since it was proposed. Faced with such a task, current competitive models, even large language models (e.g., ChatGPT and PaLM 2), still perform badly. Previous promising LMs struggle in logical consistency modeling and logical structure perception. To this end, we model the logical reasoning task by transforming each logical sample into reasoning paths and propose an architecture PathReasoner. It addresses the task from the views of both data and model. To expand the diversity of the logical samples, we propose an atom extension strategy supported by equivalent logical formulas, to form new reasoning paths. From the model perspective, we design a stack of transformer-style blocks. In particular, we propose a path-attention module to joint model in-atom and cross-atom relations with the high-order diffusion strategy. Experiments show that PathReasoner achieves competitive performances on two logical reasoning benchmarks and great generalization abilities. © 2024, CC BY.

Due to the sparsity of available features in web-scale predictive analytics, combinatorial features become a crucial means for deriving accurate predictions. As a well-established approach, factorization machine (FM) is capable of automatically learning high-order interactions among features to make predictions without the need for manual feature engineering. With the prominent development of deep neural networks (DNNs), there is a recent and ongoing trend of enhancing the expressiveness of FM-based models with DNNs. However, though better results are obtained with DNN-based FM variants, such performance gain is paid off by an enormous amount (usually millions) of excessive model parameters on top of the plain FM. Consequently, the heavy parameterization impedes the real-life practicality of those deep models, especially efficient deployment on resource-constrained IoT and edge devices. In this paper, we move beyond the traditional real space where most deep FM-based models are defined, and seek solutions from quaternion representations within the hypercomplex space. Specifically, we propose the quaternion factorization machine (QFM) and quaternion neural factorization machine (QNFM), which are two novel lightweight and memory-efficient quaternion-valued models for sparse predictive analytics. By introducing a brand new take on FM-based models with the notion of quaternion algebra, our models not only enable expressive inter-component feature interactions, but also significantly reduce the parameter size due to lower degrees of freedom in the hypercomplex Hamilton product compared with real-valued matrix multiplication. Extensive experimental results on three large-scale datasets demonstrate that QFM achieves 4.36% performance improvement over the plain FM without introducing any extra parameters, while QNFM outperforms all baselines with up to two magnitudes' parameter size reduction in comparison to state-of-the-art peer methods.
