Investigation of Maxima Assumptions in Modelling Tropical Cyclone- Induced Hazards in the South China Sea

The present study aims to examine the suitability of two commonly used assumptions that simplify modelling metoceanconditions for designing offshore wind turbines in the South China Sea (SCS). The first assumption assumes thatjoint N-year extreme wind and wave events can be independently estimated and subsequently combined. The secondone assumes peak wind and waves can be modelled as occurring simultaneously during a tropical cyclone (TC) *** better understand the potential TC activity, a set of 10000 years synthetic TC events are generated. The wind fieldmodel and the Mike 21 spectral wave model are employed to model the TC-induced hazards. Subsequently, theeffect of the assumptions is evaluated by analyzing the peak structural response of both monopile and semisubmersibleoffshore wind turbines during TC events. The results demonstrate that the examined assumptions are generally *** assessing the implications of these assumptions, valuable insights are obtained, which can inform andimprove the modelling of TC-induced hazards in the SCS region.

Flow Field Characteristics of Multi-Trophic Artificial Reef Based on Computation Fluid Dynamics

On the basis of computational fluid dynamics,the flow field characteristics of multi-trophic artificial reefs,including the flow field distribution features of a single reef under three different velocities and the effect of spacing between reefs on flow scale and the flow state,were *** indicate upwelling,slow flow,and eddy around a single *** velocity,height,and volume of upwelling in front of a single reef were positively correlated with inflow *** length and volume of slow flow increased with the increase in inflow *** were present both inside and backward,and vorticity was positively correlated with inflow *** between reefs had a minor influence on the maximum velocity and height of *** the increase in space from 0.5 L to 1.5 L(L is the reef lehgth),the length of slow flow in the front and back of the combined reefs increased *** the space was 2.0 L,the length of the slow flow *** four different spaces,eddies were present inside and at the back of each *** maximum vorticity was negatively correlated with space from 0.5 L to 1.5 L,but under 2.0 L space,the maximum vorticity was close to the vorticity of a single reef under the same inflow velocity.

Experimental Study on Vortex-Induced Vibration of Rough Risers Coupling with Interference Effect in Tandem Arrangement

In order to study the response law of vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of marine risers under the combined action of roughness and interference effects,and to reveal the coupling mechanism of roughness and interference effects on the riser,a VIV experiment of rough risers in tandem arrangement was conducted in a wave−current combined *** experiment characterized the risers’roughness by arranging different specifications of attachments on the surface of the *** rough risers with different roughness and smooth risers were arranged in tandem arrangement,with the rough risers arranged *** experimental results indicate that the suppression of the attachments on the downstream risers’vibration are more significant both in the CF and IL directions as the reduced velocity *** the downstream riser,the amplitude response of rough riser is more significantly weakened compared with the smooth one at high reduced *** the upstream risers,changes in the roughness and spacing ratio have an impact on their‘lock-in’*** the roughness of downstream risers is relatively large(0.1300)and the spacing between risers is small(S/D=4.0),the reduced velocity range of‘lock-in’region in the CF direction of upstream risers is obviously expanded,and the displacement in the‘lock-in’region is severer.

The passivation of hydrogen atoms and the conformation of textured surfaces under oil-lubricated conditions are effective strategies to obtain amorphous carbon(a-C)films with extremely low *** is critical to understanding the influence mechanism of selective surface hydrogenation on the tribological behaviors of textured a-C film under oil-lubricated *** particular,the interactions of hydrogen atoms and lubricants are confusing,which is enslaved to the in situ characterization *** reactive molecular dynamics(RMD)simulations were conducted to analyze the friction response of textured a-C films with selective hydrogenation surfaces under oil-lubricated *** results indicate that the existence of hydrogen atoms on specific bump sites significantly decreases the friction coefficient(μ)of textured a-C film,which is highly dependent on the surface hydrogen *** repulsion between hydrogen atoms and lubricant molecules prompts the formation of a dense lubricant film on the surface of the mating ***,with the enhancement of the surface hydrogen content,the passivation of the friction interface and the repulsion between hydrogen atoms and lubricants play dominant roles in reducing the friction coefficient instead of hydrodynamic lubrication.

The residual stress field induced by surface strengthening processes such as mechanical shot peening and other forms of plastic deformation does not generally exhibit a simple"monotonic"distribution *** researchers have analyzed this fact from a mechanical perspective based on Hertz ***,the micro/nano-scale microstructural changes corresponding to the distribution of residual stress fields still appear to be *** this study,we focused on a widely used material in aviation manufacturing,namely nickel-based superalloy GH4169,as our experimental *** subjected GH4169 alloy to me-chanical strengthening treatment using a shot peening intensity of 0.25 mmA,followed by quantitative testing of micromechanical performance indicators such as microhardness and residual *** thor-oughly investigate the relationship between micromechanical properties and microstructure changes,we utilized transmission electron microscopy(TEM)to observe and analyze shot-peened materials at differ-ent *** findings revealed that the most severe microstructural distortion induced by mechanical shot peening in GH4169 alloy was likely to occur within a depth range of 25 to 75 *** observation aligns with the actual phenomenon that the maximum microhardness and maximum residual compres-sive stress did not manifest on the outermost surface of the *** presenting a detailed analysis of deformation defects such as dislocations,stacking faults,and twinning in different depths of mechan-ically strengthened layers,our study contributes to a deeper understanding and practical application of post-processing technologies based on plastic deformation.

Dust pollution during shotcrete process in high-altitude tunnel based on numerical simulation

The surrounding rock needs shotcrete support after drilling and blasting excavation in the tunnel;the high concentration of dust generated in the process will endanger workers'occupational ***,to ensure the cleanness and safety of the tunnel construction process,a full-scale model of the tunnel was established based on field data of a high-altitude tunnel of the Sichuan-Tibet *** dust production mechanism is summarized by combing the whole process of *** Computa-tional Fluid Dynamics(CFD)method was used to study the diffusion and transport of dust under different *** grey relational analysis was applied to investigate the correlation values of the influ-encing factors on dust diffusion in the shotcrete operation *** results show that the dust gener-ation mechanism of shotcrete includes the sudden change of particle velocity in the jet area leading to escape and particle impact dust generation,where fine dust is easily dispersed in the *** continuous dust production,the dust concentration is higher near the wet spraying machine and on the backflow side of the working *** the air supply volume and shortening the distance between the air duct and the working face is conducive to diluting the dust concentration in the *** the high-altitude environment,the dust concentration in the tunnel decreases,the diffusion distance be-comes smaller,the settlement proportion of dust particles increases,and the risk of secondary pollution *** simulation results and the field measurement data are consistent,which can provide theoretical support for the construction site dust control.

Thickness Measurement of Single-Mode Fiber Coating Layer Based on Forward Brillouin Scattering

The coating layer is essential for protecting and applying optical fibers. Nowadays, the thickness measurement of the coating layer relies on point measurement schemes such as the side-looking light distribution method and mechanical method. However, there are some problems with the above methods, such as the trade-off between resolution and field of view, the cutting of the measurement position and the long measurement time. To overcome these problems, we propose a new method based on forward Brillouin scattering, which measures the coating layer thickness of single-mode fibers. The physical properties of the transverse acoustic field involved in forward Brillouin scattering make it possible to measure the thickness of the fiber coating. The corresponding relationship between the transverse acoustic mode frequency and the diameter of the coating layer can be calculated. The coating layer thickness can be measured with high precision by measuring the frequency spectrum of forward Brillouin scattering corresponding to multiple transverse acoustic modes at a given temperature. In the verification experiment, three types of single-mode fibers coated with polyimide are used as the sensing fiber to measure the thickness of the coating layer at multiple temperatures. The experimental results show that the error in the coating layer thickness obtained is less than 0.05 μm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of non-destructive, high-precision monitoring of fiber coating thickness. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

General approach for atomically dispersed precious metal catalysts toward hydrogen reaction

As a carbon-free energy carrier,hydrogen has become the pivot for future clean energy,while efficient hydrogen production and combustion still require precious metal-based ***-atom catalysts(SACs)with high atomic utilization open up a desirable perspective for the scale applications of precious metals,but the general and facile preparation of various precious metal-based SACs remains ***,a general movable printing method has been developed to synthesize various precious metal-based SACs,such as Pd,Pt,Rh,Ir,and Ru,and the features of highly dispersed single atoms with nitrogen coordination have been identified by comprehensive *** importantly,the synthesized Pt-and Ru-based SACs exhibit much higher activities than their corresponding nanoparticle counterparts for hydrogen oxidation reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).In addition,the Pd-based SAC delivers an excellent activity for photocatalytic hydrogen *** for the superior mass activity of Ru-based SACs toward HER,density functional theory calculations confirmed that the adsorption of the hydrogen atom has a significant effect on the spin state and electronic structure of the catalysts.
