Dual-defect engineering of catalytic cathode materials for advanced lithium-sulfur batteries

Sluggish conversion reaction kinetics and spontaneous shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides(LiPSs)are deemed as the two big mountains that hinder the practical application of lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs).Herein,dual-defect engineering strategy is implemented by introducing boron-doping and phosphorusvacancy sites with MoP@NC composite as the *** on the experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations,B-MoP_(1-x)@NC-based electrode presents low oxidation potential,high lithium diffusivity,small Tafel slope and strong adsorption capability for polysulfides,which is beneficial to enhance the adsorption capability for LiPSs,reduce the lithium diffusion energy barriers and Gibbs free energy for the conversion reactions of *** demonstrated,the corresponding Li-S/B-MoP1-x@NC batteries can remain high reversible capacity of 753 mAh/g at 0.5 C after 300 cycles,and keep a stable capacity of 520 mAh/g at 0.5 C after 100 cycles even at the high-loading content of 5.1mg/cm^(2).According to the results of in-situ UV–vis spectra,the satisfactory battery performance majorly originates from the existence of dual-defect characteristics in B-MoP1-x@NC catalyst,which effectively promotes the conversion reaction kinetics of LiPSs,and restrains the shuttle behavior of *** key ideas of this work will enlighten the development of catalytic cathode materials for sulfur-based secondary batteries.

An algorithm for indoor positioning based on LightGBM + ExtraTrees chaotic weighted ensemble: evaluation and comparison

To address the issues of insufficient positioning accuracy and poor stability in existing indoor positioning algorithms, this paper proposes an indoor fingerprint positioning algorithm based on LightGBM and ExtraTrees chaotic weighted ensemble. First, the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) signal strengths of wireless fidelity (WiFi) at different locations are collected using a mobile device to construct a fingerprint database. Kalman filtering is then applied to preprocess the fingerprint data, removing outliers and noise to improve the data quality. The preprocessed dataset is subsequently divided into training and testing sets. Light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) and extremely randomized trees (ExtraTrees) are used for modeling, and the chaos particle swarm optimization (CPSO) algorithm is employed to optimize the key parameters of both LightGBM and ExtraTrees. The optimal parameter configuration is determined based on comprehensive evaluation metrics. Finally, the optimal weight ratio of LightGBM and ExtraTrees models is determined through the CPSO algorithm for weighted fusion. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves an average positioning error of 1.1 m, which represents a reduction of 7.5–26.7% in average positioning error compared to LightGBM, ExtraTrees, and the LightGBM + ExtraTrees algorithms. After introducing random noise, the proposed algorithm exhibits the smallest variation in average positioning error, validating its significant advantages in positioning accuracy and anti-interference ability. However, the algorithm in this study is primarily based on static WiFi fingerprint data and has not yet been validated in dynamic environments. Comparative Analysis of Noise Margin Between Pure SET-SET and Hybrid SET-PMOS Inverters

Single-electron transistor（SET） is considered as one of the promising candidates for future electronic devices due to its advantages of low power consumption and high integration. The comparative analysis of SET-based inverters, especially the noise margin, is carried out. Pure SET-SET and hybrid SET with p type metal oxide semiconductor（SET-PMOS） inverters are designed for investigation. The effects of SET supply voltage, junction resistance and junction capacitance on noise tolerance and power consumption of inverters are studied. For hybrid SET-PMOS inverters, the noise margin for a logic high（NMH） is less than 60 mV under various conditions, which may become the bottleneck of its application. For pure SET-SET inverters, both NMH and the noise margin for a logic low（NML） could reach 300 mV at a supply voltage of 0.8 V. The minimum power consumption of pure SET-SET and hybrid SET-PMOS inverters is 2.85 nW and 58 nW, respectively. The pure SET-SET inverters have greater noise tolerance and lower power consumption, which is more conducive to large-scale integration. When junction capacitance CJ= 0.0273 aF and junction resistance RT≥1 MΩ in SET-SET inverters at a supply voltage of 0.8 V, the NMH and NML are not significantly affected by the junction resistance and the noise margin fluctuates at 300 mV.

Bamboo-like MnO_(2)·Co_(3)O_(4):High-performance catalysts for the oxidative removal of toluene

Themanganese-cobalt mixed oxide nanorodswere fabricated using a hydrothermalmethod with different metal precursors(KMnO_(4)and MnSO_(4)·H_(2)O for MnOx and Co(NO3)2>6H_(2)O and CoCl_(2)>6H_(2)O for Co_(3)O_(4)).Bamboo-like MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(B-MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(S))was derived from repeated hydrothermal treatments with Co_(3)O_(4)@MnO_(2)and MnSO_(4)>H_(2)O,whereas Co_(3)O_(4)@MnO_(2)nanorods were derived from hydrothermal treatment with Co_(3)O_(4)nanorods and KMnO_(4).The study shows that manganese oxide was tetragonal,while the cobalt oxide was found to be cubic in the crystalline *** surface ions were present in multiple oxidation states(e.g.,Mn^(4+)and Mn^(3+))and surface oxygen *** content of adsorbed oxygen species and reducibility at low temperature declined in the sequence of BMnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(S)>Co_(3)O_(4)@MnO_(2)>MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4),matching the changing trend in *** all the samples,B-MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(S)showed the preeminent catalytic performance for the oxidation of toluene(T10%=187℃,T50%=276℃,and T90%=339℃).In addition,the B-MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(S)sample also exhibited good H_(2)O^(-),CO_(2)^(-),and SO_(2)^(-)resistant *** good catalytic performance of B-MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(S)is due to the high concentration of adsorbed oxygen species and good reducibility at low *** oxidation over B-MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(S)proceeds through the adsorption of O_(2)and toluene to form O∗,OH∗,and H_(2)C(C6H5)∗species,which then react to produce benzyl alcohol,benzoic acid,and benzaldehyde,ultimately converting to CO_(2)and H_(2)*** findings suggest that B-MnO_(2)>Co_(3)O_(4)(S)has promising potential for use as an effective catalyst in practical applications.

Multi-Task Load Identification and Signal Denoising via Hierarchical Knowledge Distillation

Complex neural networks with deep structures are beneficial for solving problems such as load classification in Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) due to their powerful feature extraction capabilities. Unfortunately, corresponding complex models designed based on deep learning algorithms require high computational and memory resources. Additionally, the external noise interference during practical load identification poses a challenge. To solve these difficulties with practical industrial significance, this paper proposes a multi-task-knowledge distillation (MTL-KD) framework for NILM. The main contributions within this framework include a new feature extraction method that combines variational mode extraction (VME) and mutual information (MI) to extract unique features and filter out noise interference, an attention-based MTL model to simultaneously perform the load identification and signal de-noising tasks, and new KD modules to transfer knowledge from a complex teacher model to a small student model. Experimental evaluations conducted on public datasets such as the plug-load appliance identification dataset (PLAID) and the worldwide household and industry transient energy dataset (WHITED), as well as a private load dataset collected in the lab, demonstrate that the proposed MTL-KD framework surpasses state-of-the-art approaches. © 2013 IEEE.

State of the art and current trends on the metal corrosion and protection strategies in deep sea

Deep sea, with rich oil, gas, and mineral resources, plays an increasingly crucial role in scientific and industrial realms. However, the highly corrosive feature of deep sea hinders further exploration and development, which requires metal materials with robust corrosion resistance. This review covers an in-depth and all-around overview of the up-to-date advances in corrosion and protection of metals in deep-sea environment. Firstly, the unique characteristics of deep-sea environment are summarized in detail. Subsequently, the corrosion performances of metals in both in situ and simulated deep-sea environments are illustrated systematically. Furthermore, corrosion prevent strategies of metals, including sacrificial anode protection, organic coatings, as well as coatings achieved by physical vapor deposition (PVD coatings), are highlighted. Finally, we outline current challenges and development trends of corrosion and protection of metals in deep-sea environment in the future. The purpose of this review is not only to summarize the recent progress on metal corrosion and protection in deep sea, but also to aid us in understanding them more comprehensively and deeply in a short time, so as to boost their fast development. © 2024

The Acoustic Attenuation Prediction for Seafloor Sediment Based on in-situ Data and Machine Learning Methods

Accurate acquisition and prediction of acoustic parameters of seabed sediments are crucial in marine sound propagation *** the relationship between sound velocity and physical properties of sediment has been extensively studied,there is still no consensus on the correlation between acoustic attenuation coefficient and sediment physical *** the acoustic attenuation coefficient remains a challenging issue in sedimentary acoustic *** this study,we propose a prediction method for the acoustic attenuation coefficient using machine learning algorithms,specifically the random forest(RF),support vector machine(SVR),and convolutional neural network(CNN)*** utilized the acoustic attenuation coefficient and sediment particle size data from 52 stations as training parameters,with the particle size parameters as the input feature matrix,and measured acoustic attenuation as the training label to validate the attenuation prediction *** results indicate that the error of the attenuation prediction model is *** the three models,the RF model exhibited the lowest prediction error,with a mean squared error of 0.8232,mean absolute error of 0.6613,and root mean squared error of ***,when we applied the models to predict the data collected at different times in the same region,we found that the models developed in this study also demonstrated a certain level of reliability in real prediction *** approach demonstrates that constructing a sediment acoustic characteristics model based on machine learning is feasible to a certain extent and offers a novel perspective for studying sediment acoustic properties.

Dear Editor,This letter presents an improved repetitive controller(IRC) that uses a complex-coefficient filter to enhance the tracking performance of a system for periodic signals. Compared with the low-pass filter used in the conventional repetitive controller(CRC), the complex-coefficient filter causes less change in the phase and amplitude of a signal at the frequencies of the periodic signal, especially at the fundamental frequency, when the two filters have the same cutofffrequency.

Achieving excellent mechanical properties in Mg-5Bi-3Al alloy via ultra-fine grain and high-density precipitates

The development of low-cost,high-performance Mg alloys is crucial to the industrial applications of large-scale production of Mg *** this work,extruded Mg-5Bi-3Al alloy with excellent mechanical properties is successfully prepared by modifying the extrusion temperatures(240℃and 300℃).The extruded alloy obtained ultra-high strength(yield strength=380 MPa,ultimate tensile strength=418 MPa)and excellent plasticity(elongation=10.2%)at the extrusion temperature of 240℃,the main contributing factors are primarily attributed to the synergistic effect of ultrafine recrystallized grain size(~0.5µm)and high density of Mg_(3)Bi_(2)*** faults within the sub-micron Mg_(3)Bi_(2)phase are observed in the E240 alloy,confirming the plastic deformation capability of Mg_(3)Bi_(2)*** effects of extrusion temperature on the microstructure,mechanical properties,and work-hardening behavior of the extruded Mg-5Bi-3Al alloys at room temperature are systematically *** results suggest that decreasing the extrusion temperature can refine recrystallized grain size and Mg_(3)Bi_(2)phase size,and the quantity of Mg_(3)Bi_(2)phase is increased,while increasing the extrusion temperature can improve the degree of recrystallization and weaken *** work hardening rate is increased with the increased extrusion temperature,mainly due to the coarsening of grains and precipitates,and the weakening of *** work provides an experimental basis for preparing high-performance wrought Mg-5Bi-3Al alloys.
