For measuring the solution concentration of crystallization process by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, this paper proposes an improved spectral model calibration method to guarantee in-situ measurement accuracy, based on wavelet function regression. The spectral model structure is composed of wavelet basis functions, which could address the nonlinear properties and high-dimensional problem of infrared spectral variables. Moreover, the mean centralization strategy is taken to reduce the influence from measurement noise. In addition, a comparative study on measuring the solution concentration of the L-glutamic acid (LGA) crystallization process is conducted in terms of using different modeling methods and spectral variables. It is found that the wavelet function regression with all spectral variables could obtain good measurement accuracy compared to the traditional partial least-squares (PLS) method. Experimental results well demonstrate the measurement accuracy of the proposed spectral calibration method. © 2022 IEEE.

In order to solve the problem of poor speed and position observation performance of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) of rim-driven thruster (RDT), a second-order sliding mode observer based on super-twisting algorithm (STA) is presented. The new algorithm to external interference of and effectively weakens the 'chattering' phenomenon. The new algorithm can effectively suppress the sliding mode chattering and retains the advantages of traditional sliding mode observer algorithm such as strong robustness and insensitivity. The simulation results show that the speed and position error and chattering of the proposed second-order sliding mode observer are reduced compared with traditional SMO. © 2023 IEEE.

Hydrochars as carbonaceous amendments rich in porous structures and nutrients can be used as promising slow-release fertilizers and soil health amendments. Yet, the performance of hydrochars derived from different feedstocks in improving crop plant growth and soil phosphorus (P) availability is not well understood. Here, a batch of sewage sludge (SS) and chicken manure (CM) derived hydrochars (SSCs and CMCs) were produced at 125 and 225 °C (SS125/225 and CM125/225) to investigate their characteristics and performances in improving the seedling growth of two representative crops, soybean (Glycine max) and corn (Zea mays), as well as the P availability in an acidic agricultural soil in comparison with triple super phosphate (TSP), a conventional P fertilizer. Compared with CMCs, SSCs with more porous and rougher surfaces contained relatively lower contents of carbon (C;32.3–33.3%), hydrogen (H;3.9–4.69%), and potassium (K;29.2–51 mg g−1), but higher contents of P (37.4–85.4%) and nitrogen (N;2.26–4.9%), as well as more O-containing and N-containing functional groups. The impacts of hydrochars on soybean and corn growth showed distinct variations. The application of SSCs showed little effect on soybean growth (i.e., biomass, chlorophyl contents, and number of leaves), while CMCs significantly increased its total dry biomass by 23.2–66.2%. For corn, both SSCs and CMCs increased the total dry biomass by 32.8–92.4% and 21.8–69.7%, respectively, compared to those in the un-amended soils. In addition, compared with the higher temperature hydrochars (SS225 and CM225), the lower temperature ones (SS125 and CM125) increased the total dry biomass by 24.6% and 34.9% for soybean and 44.8% and 39.3% for corn, respectively. The significant improvement in crop growth by hydrochars was mainly due to the direct nutrient supply (particularly P) by the hydrochars, which was supported by the increased soil and shoot P concentrations. The global spread of viruses can lead to the release of large amounts of disinfectants or antiviral drugs into the water *** resulting disinfection byproducts(DBPs)and residual antiviral drugs,acting as genotoxic substances or their precursors,may pose risks to aquatic animals and drinking water sources;however,to date,no studies have analyzed the changes in genotoxicity in the Yangtze River before and after the *** the present study,water and sediment samples from the Yangtze River were collected during different seasons,just before and after the outbreak of COVID-19,and were assessed using the SOS/umu test(with and without liver S9).The results indicated that water samples exhibited more pronounced genotoxicity than did sediments,with direct genotoxicity being the primary ***,there were significant regional differences,with notably greater genotoxicity observed in the upper Yangtze River than in the lower reaches before the COVID-19 ***,this trend was reversed six to ten months later,suggesting the accumulation of DBPs or antiviral drugs after the COVID-19 ***,the risk quotient indicated that 65%of the water samples posed a high risk for Paramecium caudatum,whereas 71%of the samples posed a medium risk for Danio rerio,thereby representing a potential threat to the ecological security of the Yangtze *** conclusion,this study,at the basin scale,revealed the impacts of COVID-19 on the Yangtze River,highlighting the need to prevent DBPs and pharmaceutical pollution during similar events in the future.

Underwater images contain an interactive mixture of distortions due to the physicochemical property of water and the instability of imaging systems, which differ from those in natural images. We cannot obtain the pristine underwater image as the reference applied in the traditional benchmark databases, and the groups of gradual distortions either. In this paper, a novel preselection based preference label evaluation method is proposed to construct a combined subjective test procedure for an extended preference judgment dataset of underwater images. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first subjective evaluation procedure for underwater images, and also a solution for an expanding visual preference benchmark database. We demonstrate the excellent correlation of the proposed subjective evaluation with the traditional image quality assessment. It is also proven that the proposed subjective evaluation procedure could reflect the slight change of image quality and the authentic quality of a picture more accurately better than the traditional methods. © 2019 IEEE Computer Society. Exploring the preferred technology for sewage sludge treatment in China based on an integrated method of life cycle assessment and monetization model

Sewage sludge (SS) management has become a critical issue in the development of modern cities, with determining the preferred SS treatment technologies for different environmental protection goals or regions being a key concern. In this study, an integrated method of life cycle assessment and monetization model was employed to systematically compare the environmental performances of nine SS treatment technologies. The results demonstrated that pyrolysis biochar and soil application technology (R8) exhibited the best environmental performance, as evidenced by its lowest impacts or highest mitigations for most environmental indicators. R8 also provided the greatest environmental externality benefits, which ranged from −23137.40 to −1036.75 yuan·(t dry SS)−1 across different provinces. In contrast, wet oxidation technology (R3) showed the worst environmental performance, resulting in the highest environmental externality costs [5588.30–46745.04 yuan·(t dry SS)−1]. Apart from R8, which is highly recommended as the optimal technology for SS treatment, other technologies—such as bio-drying and incineration, brick/cement production, aerobic composting, and anaerobic digestion—were suggested as viable alternatives, depending on the specific pollution control needs. Furthermore, significant spatial heterogeneity in technology selection was confirmed, with a more limited choice of technologies in East China and greater flexibility in West China. Overall, our study offers valuable insights for decision-makers in developing green and cost-effective SS treatment technologies. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

For the precast of steel-shell immersed tube, key technologies for quality control of fresh and hardened SCC during preparation in lab and placing on site are discussed in this study. Special SCC was prepared with the application of high volume fly ash and low volume slag. The influence of concrete air content on workability was investigated in lab. Air content, slump flow and V-funnel flowing time of fresh concrete were tested before and after pumping on site. Two full-scale model experiments were carried out under different environmental temperature to verify the construction performance. The results show that air content can influence the workability and strength of SCC. Long distance pumping may increase the air content of SCC and decrease the filling ability. Proper initial properties of SCC before pumping should be designed to obtain satisfied workability after pumping. With the application of the prepared SCC, the maximum temperature rise of concrete in the tube can be controlled under 43℃ when the environmental temperature is under 20℃. The quality of the tube precast, such as connection between concrete and steel shell, strength and homogeneity of hardened concrete, can be guaranteed based on above research. © Federation Internationale du Beton (fib) - International Federation for Structural Concrete, 2019.

To enhance the thermo-hydraulic performance of cooling channels,this investigation examines the influence of distinct cross-sectional shapes(i.e.,triangular,rectangular,and hexagonal)of twisted pin fins and their arrangements in straight and cross *** ambient air cooling test platform was established to numerically and experimentally investigate the flow and heat transfer characteristics of 360°twisted pin fins at Re=*** findings reveal that straight rows exhibit higher Nu values than cross rows for triangular and rectangular twisted pin fins,and Nu increases with *** contrast,for hexagonal twisted pin fins,only straight rows at Re=19000 exhibit superior overall thermal performance compared to cross ***,the heat transfer performance of the cooling channel with hexagonal twisted fins surpasses both triangular and rectangular configurations,especially at high Reynolds numbers(Re=22800).Although the heat transfer coefficient of the cooling channel with hexagonal twisted fins is significantly enhanced by 132.71%compared to the flat channel,it also exhibits the highest thermal resistance and relative friction among the three types of twisted fins,the maximum of which are 2.14 and ***,the hydrothermal performance factor(HTPF)of the cooling channels with different types of twisted pin fins depends on the Reynolds number and arrangement *** Re=15200,the highest HTPF achieved for the cross-row hexagonal twisted pin fins is 0.99.

In this article, an adaptive event-triggered asymp¬totically fault-tolerant control (FTC) issue for nonlinear systems with actuator faults is investigated. An extended neural networks (NNs) technique is introduced to estimate unknown functions of the system under consideration. Compared with traditional NNs that ignore approximation errors, the proposed extended NNs further processes approximation errors, reducing the conservatism of the proposed algorithm. Then, within the framework of backstepping method, a new adaptive control strategy is developed by combining event-triggered mechanism (ETM) and bound estimation (BE) approach, which ensures the asymptotic convergence of system states while also reducing the transmission of unnecessary information, thus improving the utilization of communication resources. At the same time, the designed controller eliminates the adverse effects of actuator failures and system nonlinear terms. Finally, a simulation example of a single-link robot system is provided to demonstrate that the developed control strategy can ensure that all signals are bounded and system states are asymptotically convergent. © 2024 IEEE.
