Safety and cost are two important concerns for the development of autonomous driving technologies. From the academic research to commercial applications of autonomous driving vehicles, sufficient simulation and real world testing are required. In general, a large scale of testing in simulation environment is conducted and then the learned driving knowledge is transferred to the real world, so how to adapt driving knowledge learned in simulation to reality becomes a critical issue. However, the virtual simulation world differs from the real world in many aspects such as lighting, textures, vehicle dynamics, and agents' behaviors, etc., which makes it difficult to bridge the gap between the virtual and real worlds. This gap is commonly referred to as the reality gap (RG). In recent years, researchers have explored various approaches to address the reality gap issue, which can be broadly classified into three categories: transferring knowledge from simulation to reality (sim2real), learning in digital twins (DTs), and learning by parallel intelligence (PI) technologies. In this paper, we consider the solutions through the sim2real, DTs, and PI technologies, and review important applications and innovations in the field of autonomous driving. Meanwhile, we show the state-of-the-arts from the views of algorithms, models, and simulators, and elaborate the development process from sim2real to DTs and PI. The presentation also illustrates the far-reaching effects and challenges in the development of sim2real, DTs, and PI in autonomous driving. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The memory state feedback control problem for a class of discrete-time systems with input delay and unknown state delay is addressed based on LMIs and Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method. Under the action of our designed adaptive control law, the unknown time-delay parameter is included in memory state feedback controller. Using LMI technique, delay-dependent sufficient conditions for the existence of the feedback controller are obtained. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed design method is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Regarding human-machine collaborative task, generated trajectories of a robot manipulator should be able to avoid joint limits and singularities, but the 6 Degrees of Freedom(DoF) or lower DoF manipulators encounter difficulties in many schemes. In this paper, research is implemented on the methods of trajectory planning and motion control on the newly human-machine collaborative 7-DoF Sawyer manipulator. We try to pay more attention to these approaches and find a better combination between trajectory planners and motion controllers for Sawyer manipulator. First of all, comparison is proposed between the methods about trajectory planning in task space and joint space, drawing a conclusion that the latter has the advantage of quickness and smoothness on trajectories in real time. Next, we choose to plan trajectory in the joint space by interpolating positions and orientations. Three approaches, i.e., trapezoidal velocity trajectory, cubic polynomial trajectory and basic spline trajectory, are applied to interpolate positions. Experimental results show that it results in the smoothest trajectory using basic spline trajectory planning. We also compare linear and nonlinear orientation interpolations to address the angle wrapping issue, which leads to difficulties in smooth orientation interpolation between several waypoints. Combining polynomial trajectory planning methods with the proportional-derivative (PD) motion controller and the computed-torque motion controller, we focus on the performance of the two different combinations. It is found that trajectories with computed-torque controller have shorter path with a congruous convergence on joint position, and more accurate trajectories with less overshoots in position than others.

This article is aimed at designing a human identity recognition algorithm based on face image, which will be used in indoor environment. As the working environment is set as indoor environment, the camera will not be affected much by illumination variation. The key is how to detect human face and handle the variation of facial pose. This article divides the whole recognition process into 4 parts: image pre-processing, face detection, face alignment, feature extraction and comparison. Face detection and feature extraction are the core functions and both realized by deep learning. The process of the whole algorithm can be described as following: images after pre-processing are fed to face detection network to get the locations of face and face landmarks. Then face alignment will be conducted. Finally, deep features of face will be extracted and compared. The unique features of this algorithm are its good performance of handling the variation of facial pose and its clear framework which allows the whole method can be easily adjusted and upgraded.

The images in the low-light and narrow environment generally have the problems of non-uniform illumination, low contrast, and large random noise. Existing algorithms are mostly subject to the imaging effect of the original image, and are prone to failure in extremely weak light or strong reflective environments. This paper proposes an active and adaptive image enhancement method. First of all, this paper combines the distributed light source model and the difference in brightness between frames to complete active feedback fill light, which improves the quality of the input image. Then gamma correction, contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization and bilateral filter are designed to enhance image details and suppress noise amplification. Combined with fuzzy inference parameter self-adjustment method, algorithm adaptability is improved. Finally, through experimental verification, the method proposed in this paper can effectively enhance the images in the low-light and narrow environment.

The technology of the detection for vehicle and driver is a popular spot in these ten years. In particular, the driver detection is still a troubled question in the study of public security. In our paper, an algorithm based on YOLOv3 and support vector machine (SVM) is proposed for realizing the detection of vehicles on highway, as well as the detection and binary classification of people in the vehicles, so as to achieve the purpose of distinguishing drivers and passengers and form a one-to-one correspondence between vehicles and drivers. The effectiveness of the algorithm is verified under various complicated highway conditions. Compared with other advanced vehicle and driver detection technologies, the model has a good performance and is robust to road blocking, different attitudes and extreme lighting.

The process of blast furnace ironmaking is com-posed of several sub-processes. The process of blast furnace smelting is complicated and the data of each sub-process are scattered and not concentrated. The traditional working mode of subjective judgment based on manual experience is not conducive to the stable production of the blast furnace. Therefore, this paper develops a big data system for the production process of blast furnace, which is of great significance to realize the digital production and intelligent production of blast furnace. According to the system architecture of blast furnace ironmaking, this paper mainly designs and develops the data acquisition layer, data storage layer, data analysis layer and data application layer of the big data system.

This paper investigates the cooperative output regulation (COR) of nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) with long input delay based on periodic event-triggered mechanism. Compared with other mechanisms, periodic event-triggered control can automatically guarantee a Zeno-free behavior and avoid the continuous monitoring of triggered conditions. First, a new periodic event-triggered distributed observer, which is based on the fully asynchronous communication data, is proposed to estimate the leader information. Second, a new distributed predictor feedback control method is proposed for the considered nonlinear MASs with input delay. By coordinate transformation, the MASs are mapped into new coupled ODE-PDE target systems with some disturbance-like terms. Then, we show that the COR problem is solvable. At last, to further save the communication resource, a periodic event-triggered mechanism is considered in the sensor-to-controller transmission in every agent. A new periodic event-triggered filter is proposed to deal with the periodic event-triggered feedback data. The MASs with input delay are mapped into coupled ODE-PDE target systems with sampled data information. Then, Lyapunov-Krasovskii functions are constructed to demonstrate the exponential stability of the MASs. Simulations verify the validity of the proposed results. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Grinding in mineral processing is used to control the ore at the technically feasible and economically optimum particle size to achieve mineral liberation for separation. A circulating-load ratio (CLR) during a semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) milling process is critical for controlling particle size and energy consumption. This paper presents a CLR-prediction model based on clustering SAG milling operating conditions. First, operating parameters affecting the CLR are identified by comprehensively analyzing the complex mechanism and characteristics of a typical industrial SAG milling ***, a method is developed to cluster operating conditions of the SAG milling process based on the power consumption and CLR of the process. The method reveals the actual physical significance of each operating condition. Then, the support vector regression (SVR) is used to model the CLR in each operating condition. After that, a distance-based model integration strategy is designed to determine the weights of each SVR model to predict the CLR. Finally, integrating the SVR submodels yields a CLR prediction model. Actual run data demonstrated the accuracy and effectiveness of the model in predicting CLR. This method has significant practical value for improving SAG milling efficiency and is applicable to other complex industrial processes. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Micro/nanoliter droplet is capable of achieving versatile applications with tiny volume and substantial surface energy, which is a big plus over bulk liquid. Yet, the contradiction of elaborate manipulation and enough power is still a challenge. Here, we unleash the potential of our miniwatt aspirators pumping up liquid and creating droplets with the help of acoustic vortex beams, inspired by the power mechanism that spirals are significant for most mollusks that live in water. These droplet aspirators produce very large interface deformations by small radiation pressures with orbit angular momentum from spiral-electrode transducers. The precisely contactless manipulation of physical, chemical and biological objects at micrometric down to nanometric scales, promises tremendous development in fields as diverse as microrobotics, nanoreactors, or nanoassemblies.
