Accurate ultra-short-term photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting is crucial for the real-time scheduling of grid systems. However, the inherent variability of solar energy makes this task extremely challenging. To enhance PV power forecasting, this paper introduces a novel hybrid model named PVTimesNet, designed to harness the strengths of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM) for effective feature extraction. PVTimesNet consists of two parallel branches: the CNN1d branch, which captures correlations between multiple variables and adjacent time steps, and the LSTM branch, which learns the temporal dependencies within the PV power sequences. The features extracted by both branches are then concatenated and passed through a fully connected layer to generate multi-step PV power forecasts. Experimental results demonstrate that for forecast horizons of 1 to 4 hours, the proposed model significantly outperforms individual models and other CNN-LSTM hybrid structures. Additionally, it exhibits superior performance compared to related methods for longer forecast horizons. © 2024 IEEE.

Computer-aided diagnosis has emerged as a crucial trend in modern medicine. Recently, CT-based automatic detection algorithms for lung infectious diseases suffer from issues of low accuracy and complex architecture. In this paper, three MoB-NetV2 models (MoB-NetV2-SNN, MoB-NetV2-ELM, and MoB-NetV2-RVFL) for the detection of COVID-19 in CTs are proposed. the MoB-NetV2 model is proposed by inserting batch normalization layers between bottlenecks in MobileNetV2 and substituting the fully connected layer with the Net-1 model (SNN, ELM, RVFL), i.e. MoB-NetV2-SNN, MoB-NetV2-ELM, and MoB-NetV2-RVFL. After comparison, it is found that the proposed MoB-NetV2-RVFL achieves an average accuracy of 93.42% on a private dataset comprising of 2392 images, while the precision is reached at 97.33%. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that our MoB-NetV2-RVFL outperforms other existing algorithms in the literature. High classification accuracy and precision and low computing amount are achieved, thereby enhancing the potential application of the model in the field of medical image-aided diagnosis of COVID-19 virus. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Haptic-Aided Navigation Vehicle: Enhancing Obstacle Detection in Blind Spots and Transparent Object Scenarios

As autonomous mobile robots are increasingly deployed in complex environments, traditional vision sensors and LiDAR encounter considerable limitations, particularly in detecting obstacles in blind spots or transparent objects. To address the issue of blind spots, we design a specialized haptic sensing structure and develop the haptic-aided navigation vehicle (HANV). This system integrates haptic sensors and LiDAR to deliver comprehensive perception, significantly enhancing close-range obstacle detection in areas that are typically beyond the range of conventional sensors. To tackle the challenge of transparent obstacles, which are often undetected by both vision and LiDAR sensors, we employ a fusion of haptic sensors and LiDAR. The haptic system provides physical contact feedback, ensuring reliable detection of transparent obstacles such as glass, while LiDAR offers long-range sensing capabilities. This combination enables HANV to navigate effectively in environments with transparent obstacles, overcoming the limitations of traditional sensing systems. Experiment results indicate that the proposed haptic and LiDAR integration substantially improves obstacle detection in both blind spots and environments with transparent obstacles. HANV achieves high success rates, minimal collisions, and efficient obstacle avoidance, particularly excelling in complex, confined spaces where conventional systems prove inadequate. Converter-driven motor systems play crucial roles in contemporary industrial applications owning to the advantages of smooth starting and stepless speed regulation. For such fourth-order systems with both immeasurable states and mismatched disturbances, a finite-time control solution is proposed to address the speed tracking problem in this paper. Firstly, a finite-time observer is constructed to precisely estimate the immeasurable states and mismatched disturbances. Then, based on integral terminal sliding mode control (ITSMC), a continuous finite-time controller is designed for the systems to achieve both rapid response and superior speed tracking performance. Furthermore, a rigorous global finite-time stability analysis for the closed-loop system is presented. Finally, simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed control method. As compared with existing methods, the composite ITSMC algorithm design demonstrates reliable finite-time speed tracking performance and exceptional capability in disturbance rejection. © 2023 IEEE.

Data-Driven Multi-step Nonlinear Model Predictive control for Industrial Heavy Load Hydraulic Robot

Automating complex industrial robots requires precise nonlinear control and efficient energy management. This paper introduces a data-driven nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) framework to optimize control under multiple objectives. To enhance the prediction accuracy of the dynamic model, we design a single-shot multi-step prediction (SSMP) model based on long short-term memory (LSTM) and multilayer perceptrons (MLP), which can directly obtain the predictive horizon without iterative repetition and reduce computational pressure. Moreover, we combine offline and online models to address disturbances stemming from environmental interactions, similar to the superposition of the robot’s free and forced responses. The online model learns the system’s variations from the prediction mismatches of the offline model and updates its weights in real time. The proposed hybrid predictive model simplifies the relationship between inputs and outputs into matrix multiplication, which can quickly obtain the derivative. Therefore, the solution for the control signal sequence employs a gradient descent method with an adaptive learning rate, allowing the NMPC cost function to be formulated as a convex function incorporating critical states. The learning rate is dynamically adjusted based on state errors to counteract the inherent prediction inaccuracies of neural networks. The controller outputs the average value of the control signal sequence instead of the first value. Simulations and experiments on a 22-ton hydraulic excavator have validated the effectiveness of our method, showing that the proposed NMPC approach can be widely applied to industrial systems, including nonlinear control and energy management. We present a highly synchronized multi-view hardware acquisition system that simultaneously enables real-time multi-person pose estimation. We design a hardware synchronizer to achieve multi camera synchronous shooting, with a synchronization latency rate of only 10 −8 seconds. Based on this, we construct a multi-view hardware synchronous acquisition system. This system can be flexibly deployed in various environments to capture moving targets, such as bodies, clothing, hands, etc. Leveraging the distributed computing capabilities of the system, we further develop a multi-view multi-person pose estimation algorithm framework that fulfills real-time requirements and achieves an average frame rate of 40FPS in experimental settings while demonstrating robustness against human motion and occlusion.

Rethinking Iterative Stereo Matching from Diffusion Bridge Model Perspective

Recently, iteration-based stereo matching has shown great potential. However, these models optimize the disparity map using RNN variants. The discrete optimization process poses a challenge of information loss, which restricts the level of detail that can be expressed in the generated disparity map. In order to address these issues, we propose a novel training approach that incorporates diffusion models into the iterative optimization process. We designed a Time-based Gated Recurrent Unit (T-GRU) to correlate temporal and disparity outputs. Unlike standard recurrent units, we employ Agent Attention to generate more expressive features. We also designed an attention-based context network to capture a large amount of contextual information. Experiments on several public benchmarks show that we have achieved competitive stereo matching performance. Our model ranks first in the Scene Flow dataset, achieving over a 7% improvement compared to competing methods, and requires only 8 iterations to achieve state-of-the-art results. Calibration of 3D Single-pixel Imaging systems with a Calibration Field

3D single-pixel imaging (SPI) is a promising imaging technique that can be flexibly applied to various wavebands. The main challenge in 3D SPI is that the calibration usually requires a large number of standard points as references, which are tricky to capture using single-pixel detectors. Conventional solutions involve sophisticated device deployment and cumbersome operations, resulting in hundreds of images needed for calibration. In our work, we construct a Calibration Field (CaliF) to efficiently generate the standard points from one single image. A high accuracy of the CaliF is guaranteed by the technique of deep learning and digital twin. We perform experiments with our new method to verify its validity and accuracy. We believe our work holds great potential in 3D SPI systems or even general imaging systems. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
