Social exclusion in finite populations

Social exclusion, keeping free riders from benefit sharing, plays an important role in sustaining cooperation in our world. Here we propose two different exclusion regimes, namely, peer exclusion and pool exclusion, to investigate the evolution of social exclusion in finite populations. In the peer exclusion regime, each excluder expels all the defectors independently, and thus bears the total cost on his own, while in the pool exclusion regime, excluders spontaneously form an institution to carry out rejection of the free riders, and each excluder shares the cost equally. In a public goods game containing only excluders and defectors, it is found that peer excluders outperform pool excluders if the exclusion costs are small, and the situation is converse once the exclusion costs exceed some critical points, which holds true for all the selection intensities and different update rules. Moreover, excluders can dominate the whole population under a suitable parameters range in the presence of second-order free riders (cooperators), showing that exclusion has prominent advantages over common costly punishment. More importantly, our finding indicates that the group exclusion mechanism helps the cooperative union to survive under unfavorable conditions. Our results may give some insights into better understanding the prevalence of such a strategy in the real world and its significance in sustaining cooperation.

Real time bidding (RTB) is emerged with the rapid development and integration of Internet and big data, and it has become the most important business model for online computational advertising. In RTB-based advertising markets, Demand Side Platforms (DSPs) aim to help the advertisers buy ad impressions matched with their target audiences. Due to the existence of discount rate, the advertising effect may be diminished when displaying the advertisements multiple times to the same target audience. As such, frequency capping is widely considered as a crucial issue faced by most advertisers. In this paper, we mainly consider the frequency capping problems in RTB advertising markets, and establish a two-stage optimization model for advertisers and DSPs. Utilizing the computational experiment approach, we design two experiments to validate our model. The experimental results show that under different discount rates, the optimal frequency caps are different. Moreover, when considering all the discount rates, there exists an optimal frequency cap, at which the expected maximum revenue can be obtained in the long run.

A success of an improvement project on solving a problem in an organization is not only depending an appropriate methodology on problem solving with Lean, TOC or 6 sigma with relevant tools, but also it is very important to have an appropriate methodology and process on change management integrated with project management during the improvement project. This paper describes the principle of change management based on existing literature, and illustrates a case study on how an improvement project apply theory and methodology of change management to make successful change. Firstly, the literature review relevant to concerns for support change in a business environment is introduced. General tools, models, and solutions to make a change effectively in an organization are explained. Next one framework with relevant tools and models are selected to the case study that conducts a manufacturing with ETO (engineering-to-order) product. Next regarding the readiness for change, and the implementation of the change the paper introduces how the selected framework and the tools and models on change management is integrated with project management during different phases of the improvement project. As a result, it shows a success both from improvement project and change management perspective. In particular, achievement in the change management is not only showing the successful improvement project, but also the organization realizes another great positive change - people's improved behavior on daily work. Hence a long-term benefit from the improvement project and change management is gained. The achievement shows that similar approach on change management in an organization may be applied to more organizations.

Coordinated Adaptive control for Coordinated Path-following Surface Vessels with a Time-invariant Orbital Velocity

This article considers the problem of directing a family of fully actuated surface vessels to cooperatively follow a set of convex and closed orbits with a time-invariant reference orbital velocity and maintain attitude synchronization. A consensusbased adaptive control law under a bidirectional communication topology is proposed to estimate the reference orbital velocity so that the restriction that every vessel in the family must have access to the reference in the previous literature can be *** assumption of nonzero total linear speed of each vessel is removed by the use of potential function. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper presents an imaging method for 360-degree panoramic view based on four wide angle *** order to complete the image mosaic,all the parameters such as focal length,principal point and distortion coefficients,etc are calibrated by our proposed calibration ***,our approach does not adopt the scheme which stitching all the images to the surrounding view after distortion *** proposed method directly calculates the mapping relationship between the wide-angle lens images and cylindrical projection images to generate lookup tables which can greatly simplifies the computation and reduces the loss of information in each ***,panoramic image is composed by image registration and image *** results show that this method is valid.

Pedestrian detection is a hot research topic in pattern recognition and computer vision. We combine MBBP（Multiscale Block Local Binary Patterns）feature and Histogram Intersection Kernel SVM and apply them to pedestrian detection. MBBP features, which make up for the lack of LBP（Local Binary Patterns） features in robustness, is a kind of effective texture description *** Intersection Kernel Support Vector Machine has the advantage of fast classification and high accuracy in object recognition. It can be used for further enhancing the system's real-time performance. The experiments show that the proposed approach has higher precision than the classical algorithm HOG+Linear SVM and the HOGBP Features Fusion tested on the established benchmarking datasets—INRIA.

K-means clustering has been extremely popular in scene image classification. However, due to the random selection of initial cluster centers, the algorithm cannot always provide the most optimal results. In this paper, we develop a density-based k-means clustering. First, we calculate the density and distance for each feature vector. Then choose those features with high density and large distance as initial cluster centers. The remaining steps are the same with k-means. In order to evaluate our proposed algorithm, we have conducted several experiments on twoscene image datasets: Fifteen Scene Categories dataset and UIUC Sports Event dataset. The results show that our proposed method has good repeatability. Compared with the traditional k-means clustering, it can achieve higher classification accuracy when applied in multiclass scene image classification.

There is a growing interest in subspace learning techniques for face recognition. This paper proposes a novel face recognition method based on MPCA with Gabor tensor representation. Although the Gabor face representation has achieved great success in face recognition, the excessive dimension of the data space often brings the algorithms into the curse of dimensionality dilemma. In this paper, we propose a 3rd-order Gabor tensor representation derived from a complete response set of 40 Gabor filters. Then MPCA(Multi-linear Principal Component Analysis) is applied to each Gabor tensor to extract three discriminative *** dimension reduction is done in such a way that most useful information is retained. The subspaces are finally integrated for classification. Experimental results on ORL database show promising results of the proposed method.

The rapidly growing amount of social interaction makes geographical names an important and indispensable medium for people in social and economic exchanges. Especially in today's information age, the frequency of usage of name information has increased greatly. In this paper, a method for the construction of a cities' names database is proposed. This will include the processing of the outcome data from the names pilot survey, the consolidation into the database, the development of the cloud service and management system based on the geographical names and zoning database, and the construction of a relatively complete set of the public service system of geographical names based on a website and touch screen interface. The method has been applied in SanYa, China successfully, and very good results have been obtained. The platform can provide not only accurate and convenient services of geographical names, but also promote its economic development and social progress.

As a well-known combinatorial optimization problem, multiple traveling salesman problem (MTSP) fails to characterize some application problems where cities may have different accessibility for some but not necessarily all salesmen. This work proposes a colored traveling salesman problem (CTSP) in which a city has one to multiple colors allowing any salesman with the same color to visit. It presents a decomposition approach that converts CTSP into a combination of several individual traveling salesman problems (TSPs) and one MTSP for an important class of CTSP. To solve the transformed one, this work proposes a modified greedy algorithm allowing multi-colored city assignment during city search and adopts the formerly presented simulated annealing genetic algorithm. A dual-bridge waterjet cutting example is utilized to compare the presented decomposition approach and direct one. The results show that the former can achieve a better solution than the latter if the cities of same color(s) are clumped.
