Internet of Things (IoT) device localization is fundamental to smart home functionalities, including indoor navigation and tracking of individuals. Traditional localization relies on relative methods utilizing the positions of anchors within a home environment, yet struggles with precision due to inherent inaccuracies in these anchor positions. In response, we introduce a cutting-edge smartphone-based localization system for IoT devices, leveraging the precise positioning capabilities of smartphones equipped with motion sensors. Our system employs artificial intelligence (AI) to merge channel state information from proximal trajectory points of a single smartphone, significantly enhancing line of sight (LoS) angle of arrival (AoA) estimation accuracy, particularly under severe multipath conditions. Additionally, we have developed an AI-based anomaly detection algorithm to further increase the reliability of LoS-AoA estimation. This algorithm improves measurement reliability by analyzing the correlation between the accuracy of reversed feature reconstruction and the LoS-AoA estimation. Utilizing a straightforward least squares algorithm in conjunction with accurate LoS-AoA estimation and smartphone positional data, our system efficiently identifies IoT device locations. Validated through extensive simulations and experimental tests with a receiving antenna array comprising just two patch antenna elements in the horizontal direction, our methodology has been shown to attain decimeter-level localization accuracy in nearly 90% of cases, demonstrating robust performance even in challenging real-world scenarios. Additionally, our proposed anomaly detection algorithm trained on Wi-Fi data can be directly applied to ultra-wideband, also outperforming the most advanced techniques. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Radio imaging is rapidly gaining prominence in the design of future communication systems, with the potential to utilize reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) as imaging apertures. Although the sparsity of targets in three-dimensional (3D) space has led most research to adopt compressed sensing (CS)-based imaging algorithms, these often require substantial computational and memory burdens. Drawing inspiration from conventional Fourier transform (FT)-based imaging methods, our research seeks to accelerate radio imaging in RIS-aided communication systems. To begin, we introduce a two-stage wavenumber domain 3D imaging technique: first, we modify RIS phase shifts to recover the equivalent channel response from the user equipment to the RIS array, subsequently employing traditional FT-based wavenumber domain methods to produce target images. We also determine the diffraction resolution limits of the system through k-space analysis, taking into account factors including system bandwidth, transmission direction, operating frequency, and the angle subtended by the RIS. Addressing the challenge of limited pilots in communication systems, we unveil an innovative algorithm that merges the strengths of both FT- and CS-based techniques by substituting the expansive sensing matrix with FT-based operators. Our simulation outcomes confirm that our proposed FT-based methods achieve high-quality images while demanding few time, memory, and communication resources. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. How Regulatory Orders and Public Fear Affect Vehicle Mobility Under Covid-19: A Global Perspective from Urban Overall Vehicles Using Multisource Data

As one of the largest pandemics in human history, COVID-19 has dealt a heavy blow to the global economy and social life. Although the pandemic situations in most countries have been stable, lessons are highly needed to learn to get more prepared for the future. In the field of transportation, the impact of COVID-19 on public transit and shared travel has been extensively studied with a relatively consistent conclusion. However, how and why the overall vehicle travel demand (including public and private) changes have not been fully addressed. This paper investigates the impact of COVID-19 on urban overall vehicle mobility as to the magnitude, duration, and driving factors. To this end, the Prophet time series model was introduced to predict vehicle mobility without COVID-19. By comparing the predicted with the real value, the mobility loss was obtained. The causes of the loss were deeply explored by applying multiple linear regression, especially focusing on the interaction effects of the strictness of regulatory orders and public fear. A large-scale dataset with more than 4 billion raw data was built for the empirical analysis from different sources, including a three-year city-level Automatic Number Plate Recognition data and data crawled from websites relating to explanatory variables. Results show that urban vehicle mobility loss almost all occurs during the national outbreak period, which is 29.66%. The factor that represents nationwide confirmed cases has a positive lagging effect on travel mobility loss, and the lag time is around seven days. Loss of urban motorized travel demand is largely caused by the interaction of perceived risks and control policy. The marginal effects of the factors work differently, indicating strong evidence of the existence of caution fatigue and shedding light on the impact mechanism. © 2024, The Authors. Lower-limb rehabilitation robots are becoming increasingly prevalent in rehabilitation training. Accurate modeling helps to develop an effective rehabilitation program. This paper analyzes the physiological structure and joint motion characteristics of the human lower limbs using a pedaling lower-limb rehabilitation robot. We establish a simplified three-link model of the human lower limbs and apply the Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) parametric method to analyze the joint range of motion, determining geometric parameters and boundary conditions. The forward kinematics analysis derives the expression for the end position of the three-link model, and inverse kinematics calculates joint angles, velocities, and accelerations. Using Lagrange's dynamical equations, we compute the torque required by each joint for different motion states, establishing the foundation for subsequent controller design. Finally, joint angles and torques were simulated in MATLAB. The results verified the feasibility of the model.

RIS-aided Single-frequency 3D Imaging by Exploiting Multi-view Image Correlations

Retrieving range information in three-dimensional (3D) radio imaging is particularly challenging due to the limited communication bandwidth and pilot resources. To address this issue, we consider a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided uplink communication scenario, generating multiple measurements through RIS phase adjustment. This study successfully realizes 3D single-frequency imaging by exploiting the near-field multi-view image correlations deduced from user mobility. We first highlight the significance of considering anisotropy in multi-view image formation by investigating radar cross-section properties and diffraction resolution limits. We then propose a novel model for joint multi-view 3D imaging that incorporates occlusion effects and anisotropic scattering. These factors lead to slow image support variation and smooth coefficient evolution, which are mathematically modeled as Markov processes. Based on this model, we employ the Expectation Maximization-Turbo-Generalized Approximate Message Passing algorithm for joint multi-view single-frequency 3D imaging with limited measurements. Simulation results reveal the superiority of joint multi-view imaging in terms of enhanced imaging ranges, accuracies, and anisotropy characterization compared to single-view imaging. Combining adjacent observations for joint multi-view imaging enables a reduction in the measurement overhead by 80%. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the deregulation of the power market, power units are allowed to make strategic biddings. The bidding results of the strategic bidding market are substantially different from the ones in the previous regulated market. Such differences in the bidding results will further have impacts on the power flow and system security. Thus, it is important to analyze and establish a model to simulate the bidding behaviors of the power units. This paper proposes a price-capacity-pairs model to simulate multi-segment bidding behavior. We select five vital factors that affect biddings behaviors as input: load, capacity, supply-demand ratio, bidders' bidding tendency and unit type. Based on the three-segment bidding rule, the price-capacity pair is used. For uncertain price or capacity, we choose a truncated normal distribution model. Scenario generation and reduction are achieved by Monte Carlo simulation and fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm. We apply our method to a case study based on Guangdong's market in China. The simulation of wind power units, coal power units and gas power units has verified the correctness of the model. © 2021 IEEE.

Secrecy Outage Probability Analysis for Downlink RIS-NOMA Networks with On-Off control

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has been regarded as a promising technology since it has ability to create the favorable channel conditions. This paper investigates the secure communications of RIS assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks, where both external and internal eavesdropping scenarios are taken into consideration. More specifically, novel approximate and asymptotic expressions of secrecy outage probability (SOP) for the k-th legitimate user (LU) are derived by invoking imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) and perfect successive interference cancellation (pSIC). To characterize the secrecy performance of RIS-NOMA networks, the diversity order of the k-th LU with ipSIC/pSIC is obtained in the high signal-to-noise ratio region. The secrecy system throughput of RIS-NOMA networks is discussed in delay-limited transmission mode. Numerical results are presented to verify theoretical analysis that: i) The SOP of RIS-NOMA networks is superior to that of RIS assisted orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and conventional cooperative communication schemes;ii) As the number of reflecting elements increases, the RIS-NOMA networks are capable of achieving the enhanced secrecy performance;and iii) The RIS-NOMA networks have better secrecy system throughput than that of RIS-OMA networks and conventional cooperative communication schemes. CuO-based oxygen carriers (OCs) have a high reactivity and oxygen transport capacity. In this study, the CuO@TiO2-Al2O3 oxygen carrier was prepared by sol-gel combustion synthesis. The effects of the molar ratio of urea-to-copper nitrate trihydrate (the ratio is abbreviated as FER) on the combustion flame, temperature, and gas products during the OC precursor combustion were investigated. And the CH4-fueled chemical looping combustion (CLC) was performed. The precursor combusted rapidly and incompletely with CO2, CO, CH4, and H2 released;and the combustion temperature increased and then decreased (ranging from 313 °C to 570 °C), reaching the maximum at FER 0.91 where the intense combustion was rapid within 2.029 seconds and with simultaneous O2 exhausting. Moreover, the average CO2 selectivity, CH4 conversion rate, CO2 generation rate, and stability of the OCs during the CLC displayed a negative correlation with the combustion temperature of precursors, and all parameters reached their minimums at FER 0.91. © 2024, The Authors. Single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology can study gene expression in single cell resolution and solve cell heterogeneity that cannot be solved by the traditional RNA sequencing (Bulk RNA-seq) technology. It provides a powerful analytical tool for in-depth study of the immune, regulatory, replication, and other activities of cells and explanations of life activities rules. However, single cell sequencing experiments are hindered by several technical issues, which cause output scRNA-seq with a high percentage of zeros (dropout events), impacting the reliability of downstream analyses. Therefore, a great number of computational methods have been proposed to address the increased sparsity observed in scRNA-seq data. In this paper, motivated by the image denoising method, we propose an imputation algorithm CSI based on the similarity between cells. The cell similarity is considered as the weight to average the gene expression values to impute the missing values in the data. CSI achieves better accuracy than other the 7 publicly notable scRNA-seq imputation methods on some real scRNA-seq data, especially gains better performance in some downstream analysis such as cluster analysis and pseudo trajectory inference. © 2021 ACM.

Existing smoke vehicle detection methods and vision-based smoke detection methods are vulnerable to false alarms. This paper presents an automatic smoke vehicle detection method based on multi-feature fusion and hidden Markov model (HMM). In this method, we first detect moving objects using an improved visual background extractor (ViBe) algorithm and obtain smoke-colored blocks using color histogram features in the HSI (hue, saturation, and intensity) color space. The adaptive scale local binary pattern (AS-LBP) and the discriminative edge orientation histogram (disEOH) are proposed and combined to characterize the smoke-colored blocks. More specifically, the proposed AS-LBP, a texture feature descriptor, is based on the quadratic fitting of our labelled data to obtain the best scale. The proposed disEOH, a gradient-based feature descriptor, is robust to noise by extracting discriminative edge information using Gaussian filters and principal component analysis (PCA). The discrete cosine transform (DCT) is employed to extract frequency domain information from the region fused by smoke blocks. To utilize the dynamic features, the HMMs are employed to analyze and classify the smoke-colored block sequences and region sequences in continuous frames. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves better performances than existing smoke detection methods, especially achieves lower false alarms. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.
