Spectral technology is one of the key means for long-distance non-contact detection and identification of materials. It is an important force for ground-based detection satellites which can play a role in monitoring satellite operation status and safety, and identifying satellite types except for radar. However, for complex targets detected at ultra long distances, the detection object is equivalent to a point source, and the distribution of surface materials is not clear. Usually, material spectral unmixing can only focus on the distribution of planar materials, making it difficult to analyze the target structure. This article uses the spectral BRDF function to construct a hyperspectral ray tracing rendering 3D representation method based on the relationship between illumination, target surface normals, and detection points. It obtains a 3D rendering of a single material on a composite target, laying the foundation for analyzing the structural features of long-distance point target detection. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in millimeter wave is a key enabler for next-generation networks, which leverages large bandwidth and extensive antenna arrays, benefiting both communication and sensing functionalities. The associated high costs can be mitigated by adopting a hybrid beamforming structure. However, the well-studied monostatic ISAC systems face challenges related to full-duplex operation. To address this issue, this paper focuses on a three-dimensional bistatic configuration that requires only half-duplex base stations. To intuitively evaluate the error bound of bistatic sensing using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing waveforms, we propose a positioning scheme that combines angle-of-arrival and time-of-arrival estimation, deriving the closed-form expression of the position error bound (PEB). Using this PEB, we develop two hybrid beamforming algorithms for joint waveform design, aimed at maximizing achievable spectral efficiency (SE) while ensuring a predefined PEB threshold. The first algorithm leverages a Riemannian trust-region approach, achieving superior performance in terms of global optima and convergence speed compared to conventional gradient-based methods, but with higher complexity. In contrast, the second algorithm, which employs orthogonal matching pursuit, offers a more computationally efficient solution, delivering reasonable SE while maintaining the PEB constraint. This study presents an advanced wireless system that embeds target recognition within reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided communication systems, powered by cuttingedge deep learning innovations. Such a system faces the challenge of fine-tuning both the RIS phase shifts and neural network (NN) parameters, since they intricately interdepend on each other to accomplish the recognition task. To address these challenges, we propose an intelligent recognizer that strategically harnesses every piece of prior action responses, thereby ingeniously multiplexing downlink signals to facilitate environment sensing. Specifically, we design a novel NN based on the long short-term memory (LSTM) architecture and the physical channel model. The NN iteratively captures and fuses information from previous measurements and adaptively customizes RIS configurations to acquire the most relevant information for the recognition task in subsequent moments. Tailored dynamically, these configurations adapt to the scene, task, and target specifics. Simulation results reveal that our proposed method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art method, while resulting in minimal impacts on communication performance, even as sensing is performed simultaneously.

The last few years have seen the appearance of a new sparse reference-based free energy principle, which demonstrates that an input visual signal was always strived to be comprehend by the human visual system (HVS) through removing the undetermined portions. By this inspiration, we in this paper put forward an image quality assessment (IQA) model based on sparse reference information. In essential, as compared with the classical good-performance FEDM model that was developed with a linear local autoregressive (AR) model, the proposed sparse reference (SR) IQA model is a simplified version of FEDM, achieving comparable performance but hundreds of times faster implementation. More specifically, this paper introduces the extremely sparse random sampling method into the FEDM model. Experimental results on the most well-known LIVE IQA database illustrate the effectiveness along with efficiency of our SR-IQA model as compared with the typical full-reference IQA models and the cutting-edge SR IQA models. © 2022, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The coarse pointing assembly (CPA), as the outer loop of the laser terminal, its tracking stability is the basis for ensuring laser communication. This paper presents the model of the CPA. Aiming at the disturbance factors in the low-speed operation process of the CPA, an active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) method for the position loop of the CPA is designed based on the generalized proportional integral observer (GPIO) to achieve disturbance compensation control. Finally, simulations are carried out on the system model. The simulation results show that compared with the PID control strategy adopted, the proposed ADRC strategy based on GPIO of the CPA can effectively improve the tracking accuracy.

For patients requiring upper limb rehabilitation, the hand rehabilitation robot assists the patient in completing movements within a certain training trajectory to achieve therapeutic results. There have been studies based on deep learning to convert surface electromyography (sEMG) signals into sEMG images for motion intention analysis. Although good recognition accuracy has been achieved, the working principle of neural networks and the processing of image features by the networks are not well explained. The interpretability of deep neural networks determines human confidence in neural network decisions. In this paper, we design a method based on feature importance and implicit correlation for hand motion intention recognition, experimentally explored that convolutional neural networks have implicit definitions for sEMG grayscale images of the same hand gesture action, and verified the effectiveness of the designed method.

As a vital technology in the field of image processing, numerous visible and infrared fusion methods have emerged with the aim of generating a single image containing salient targets and abundant details. However, owing to the influence of target motion or camera shake, source images may suffer from motion blur, resulting in blurred edges and unrecognizable objects. To address this issue, this paper bridges the gap between deblurring and fusion tasks and proposes a joint motion deblurring and fusion network for visible and infrared image (MDbFusion). On the one hand, we innovatively merge motion deblurring task into network design, which effectively ensures the capacity of MDbFusion to process images in the extreme condition. On the other hand, an Adaptive Weight Module (AWM) is designed to calculate contribution between visible and infrared features, which solves the channel contrast between two tasks, greatly reducing the complexity of network. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the MDb-Fusion outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) fusion algorithms in terms of preserving texture details and quantitative metrics. Furthermore, we also compare with a two-step fusion strategy that first deblurring then fusion, both with SOTA methods. The results reveal superiority of our framework in coupling and reciprocity between two tasks.
