Reduced-Order Consensus Protocols with Pure Relative Output: Design, Existence, and Dual Results

This paper studies reduced-order dynamic consensus protocols for homogeneous linear multi-agent systems using pure relative output information. By applying H∞ control theory, a separation principle-like method with an additional small-gain constraint is proposed for designing an (nx-nu)th order protocol, where nx and nu are the numbers of states and inputs of each agent, respectively. Existence conditions for the protocol are then systematically discussed from the graph, low gain and high gain perspectives, respectively. It is revealed that the protocol always exists and can be found by the proposed design method for three cases: 1) directed acyclic networks, 2) agents with all eigenvalues in the closed left-half complex plane and 3) agents of minimum phase. Another reduced-order protocol of (nx - ny)th order is further discussed through duality. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

A New Image Quality Database for Multiple Industrial Processes

Recent years have witnessed a broader range of applications of image processing technologies in multiple industrial processes, such as smoke detection, security monitoring, and workpiece inspection. Different kinds of distortion types and levels must be introduced into an image during the processes of acquisition, compression, transmission, storage, and display, which might heavily degrade the image quality and thus strongly reduce the final display effect and clarity. To verify the reliability of existing image quality assessment methods, we establish a new industrial process image database (IPID), which contains 3000 distorted images generated by applying different levels of distortion types to each of the 50 source images. We conduct the subjective test on the aforementioned 3000 images to collect their subjective quality ratings in a well-suited laboratory environment. Finally, we perform comparison experiments on IPID database to investigate the performance of some objective image quality assessment algorithms. The experimental results show that the state-of-the-art image quality assessment methods have difficulty in predicting the quality of images that contain multiple distortion types. In this paper, the problem of bearing-only formation tracking control of multiple nonholonomic agents is studied. A leader-follower structure is adopted, where the leaders are moving at an unknown constant linear velocity and time-varying orientation. To solve the problem using bearing-only measurements, a finite-time estimator is firstly proposed to estimate the leaders' orientation information. Then, an adaptation law for estimating the leaders' linear velocity is proposed, based on which control inputs for tracking the leaders in a predefined bearing-based formation are designed, so that formation tracking can be achieved asymptotically. Rigorous theoretical analysis of the closed-loop system is given. It is proved that both the estimation errors and formation errors converge to zero under the connectivity of the communication graph and conditions for bearing rigidity. Numerical simulations are presented to testify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2021 IEEE

This study integrated an improved equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) and a repetitive control methods to ensure reference tracking and enhance disturbance-rejection performance for a pedaling rehabilitation robot. A repetitive controller ensures steady-state tracking of a periodic reference input. An EID estimator with a state observer estimates and compensates for the effect of disturbances generated by patients with lower-limb impairment. The stability condition of the closed-loop system is analyzed based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this method. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper aims to reconstruct physically plausible hand motion from monocular color images. Existing frame-by-frame estimating approaches can not guarantee the physical plausibility (e.g. penetration, jittering) directly. In this paper, we embed physical constraints on the per-frame estimated motions in both spatial and temporal space. Our key idea is to adopt a self-supervised learning strategy to train a novel encoder-decoder, named TravelNet, whose training motion data is prepared by the physics engine using discrete pose states. TravelNet captures key pose states from hand motion sequences as compact motion descriptors, inspired by the concept of keyframes in animation. Finally, it manages to extract those key states out of perturbations without manual annotations, and reconstruct the motions preserving details and physical plausibility. In the experiments, we show that the outputs of the TravelNet contain both finger synergism and time consistency. Through the proposed framework, hand motions can be accurately reconstructed and flexibly re-edited, which is superior to the state-of-the-art methods.

This study proposes a stock boundary compensation method to address the uncertainty of gaseous energy in integrated steel plants. The uncertainty disrupts the balance of temporary storage, resulting in energy waste, environmental pollution, and disturbances in steel production. The method accurately compensates for the impact of gaseous energy uncertainty on storage. Firstly, the gas energy system and its scheduling model are described using the example of oxygen and by-product gas systems. The storage deviation caused by gaseous energy uncertainty is quantitatively analyzed using formulas. Subsequently, an optimization problem is formulated to determine the optimal margin for compensating the storage boundary using a data-driven approach. Comparative experiments demonstrate that the proposed method not only significantly enhances the safety of gaseous energy storage subject to uncertainty, but also outperforms traditional robust optimization and stock fluctuation optimization methods in terms of system robustness against uncertainty and operating cost optimality. © 2024, The Authors. With the rapid increase in demand for the fifth-generation mobile communication technology (5G) in the BusinesstoBusiness (ToB) market, future factories, especially those involving a large number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, will prioritize deploying private networks to achieve prioritized scheduling, resource allocation, and security control over the entire network. The User Plane Function (UPF) is an important network element in the 5G core network. In practical deployments, UPF typically uses dedicated hardware devices, which are not only expensive but also have a tightly coupled architecture that imposes certain limitations on future network upgrades and scalability. To achieve flexible deployment of Network Private Network (NPN), we implemented the 5G core network architecture using Software Defined Networking (SDN) with Programming Protocol-Independent Packet Processors (P4) programmable switch. Subsequently, we conducted the connectivity test of the core network and analyzed the maximum achievable user capacity. Considering that the introduction of SDN may bring new security risks to private networks, we have designed a solution to mitigate SDN data plane Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks and have proven its effectiveness through practical experiments. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper we proposed a data-driven distributed model predictive control (MPC) for the load frequency control of the multi-area interconnection nonlinear power system. The data-driven Koopman operator method is used to deal with the nonlinear wind power generation system in each area. The distributed Koopman operator algorithm is proposed to deal with the huge amount of data in the large-scale distributed system. Based on the distributed linear model obtained by the distributed Koopman operator algorithm, the distributed MPC is applied to realize the load frequency control (LFC) of the multi-area power system. The cooperation-based cost function is optimized by the MPC controller in each area, and the global optimal solution can be achieved by the proposed method. The effectiveness and practicability of the proposed algorithm are demonstrated by the simulation.
