With the advantage of simulating the details of a transportation system, the “microsimulation” of a traffic system has long been a hot topic in the Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) research. The Cellular Automata (CA) and the Multi-Agent System (MAS) modeling are two typical methods for the traffic microsimulation. However, the computing burden for the microsimulation and the optimization based on it is usually very heavy. In recent years the Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have been applied successfully in many areas for parallel computing. Compared with the traditional CPU cluster, GPU has an obvious advantage of low cost of hardware and electricity consumption. In this paper we build an MAS model for a road network of four signalized intersections and we use a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to optimize the traffic signal timing with the objective of maximizing the number of the vehicles leaving the network in a given period of time. Both the simulation and the optimization are accelerated by GPU and a speedup by a factor of 195 is obtained. In the future we will extend the work to large scale road networks.

It is commonly assumed that the application of solar power system can save energy and relief global climate change. Presented in this study is the account of energy performance and greenhouse gas emissions of a planned solar tower power plant in China based on the life cycle analysis method. The conservative estimation of energy cost for the concerned plant is 1.21 times of the electricity output, which is a relatively decent performance amongst power generation technologies. In order to analyze the greenhouse gas performance, a comparison is carried out between the solar tower power plant and conventional coal-fired power plant in China. Results show the application of this solar system obtains a net greenhouse gas emission reduction of 0.31E+06 ton CO2 equivalent, during its operating period of twenty years. It is believed that this successful example can lend solid support to a future wide use of solar power in China.

In this paper, some improved results on the state estimation problem for recurrent neural networks with both time-varying and distributed time-varying delays are presented. Through available output measurements, an improved delay-dependent criterion is established to estimate the neuron states such that the dynamics of the estimation error is globally exponentially stable, and the derivative of time-delay being less than 1 is removed, which generalize the existent methods. Finally, two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

We study the effect of mutation on the evolutionary prisoner's dilemma in highly clustered scale-free networks. It is found that cooperation is more sensitive and vulnerable to strategy mutation in more highly clustered networks. For small mutation rates, high clustering coefficient promotes cooperation. For medium mutation rates, high clustering coefficient inhibits the emergence of cooperation. For large mutation rates, cooperation is insensitive to clustering property. We provide explanations for the effects of clustering on cooperation with varied mutation rates.

In this paper,an improved mean-square exponential stability condition and delayed-state-feedback controller for stochastic Markovian jump systems with mode-dependent time-varying state delays are obtained. First,by constructing a modified Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional,a mean-square exponential stability condition for the above systems is presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Here,the decay rate can be a finite positive constant in a range and the derivative of time-varying delays is only required to have an upper bound which is not required to be less than 1. Then,based on the proposed stability condition,a delayed-state-feedback controller is designed. Finally,numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

This paper investigates the problem of robust exponential admissibility for a class of continuous-time uncertain switched singular systems with interval time-varying delay. By defining a properly constructed decay-rate-dependent Lyapunov function and the average dwell time approach, a delay-range-dependent sufficient condition is derived for the nominal system to be regular, impulse free, and exponentially stable. This condition is also extended to uncertain case. The obtained results provide a solution to one of the basic problems in continuous-time switched singular time-delay systems, that is, to identify a switching signal for which the switched singular time-delay system is regular, impulse free, and exponentially stable. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

This paper considers the problem of controller design fornetworked impulsive controlsystems(NICSs) with transmission delayand packet dropouts. The parameter uncertainty is assumed to be norm bounded. The problem to be addressed is the design of impulsive controllers such that the exponential stability of the resulting closed-loop system and asymptotical stability for admissible uncertainties are guaranteed. By applying Lyapunov function theory and Halanay Lemma, impulsive time-delay controller is derived through solving LMIs. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the application of the proposed method.
