Communication-centric Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) has been recognized as a promising methodology to implement wireless sensing functionality over existing network architectures, due to its cost-effectiveness and backward compatibility to legacy cellular systems. However, the inherent randomness of the communication signal may incur huge fluctuations in sensing capabilities, leading to unfavorable detection and estimation performance. To address this issue, we elaborate on random ISAC signal processing methods in this article, aiming at improving the sensing performance without unduly deteriorating the communication functionality. Specifically, we commence by discussing the fundamentals of sensing with random communication signals, including the performance metrics and optimal ranging waveforms. Building on these concepts, we then present a general framework for random ISAC signal transmission, followed by an in-depth exploration of time-domain pulse shaping, frequency-domain constellation shaping, and spatial-domain precoding methods. We provide a comprehensive overview of each of these topics, including models, results, and design guidelines. Finally, we conclude this article by identifying several promising research directions for random ISAC signal transmission. © 2025 IEEE.

Hybrid Beamforming Design for Bistatic Integrated Sensing and Communication systems

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in millimeter wave is a key enabler for next-generation networks, which leverages large bandwidth and extensive antenna arrays, benefiting both communication and sensing functionalities. The associated high costs can be mitigated by adopting a hybrid beamforming structure. However, the well-studied monostatic ISAC systems face challenges related to full-duplex operation. To address this issue, this paper focuses on a three-dimensional bistatic configuration that requires only half-duplex base stations. To intuitively evaluate the error bound of bistatic sensing using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing waveforms, we propose a positioning scheme that combines angle-of-arrival and time-of-arrival estimation, deriving the closed-form expression of the position error bound (PEB). Using this PEB, we develop two hybrid beamforming algorithms for joint waveform design, aimed at maximizing achievable spectral efficiency (SE) while ensuring a predefined PEB threshold. The first algorithm leverages a Riemannian trust-region approach, achieving superior performance in terms of global optima and convergence speed compared to conventional gradient-based methods, but with higher complexity. In contrast, the second algorithm, which employs orthogonal matching pursuit, offers a more computationally efficient solution, delivering reasonable SE while maintaining the PEB constraint. A target group tracking algorithm for wireless sensor networks using azimuthal angle of arrival information

In this paper, we explore the technology of tracking a group of targets with correlated motions in a wireless sensor network. Since a group of targets moves collectively and is restricted within a limited region, it is not worth consuming scarce resources of sensors in computing the trajectory of each single target. Hence, in this paper, the problem is modeled as tracking a geographical continuous region covered by all targets. A tracking algorithm is proposed to estimate the region covered by the target group in each sampling period. Based on the locations of sensors and the azimuthal angle of arrival （AOA） information, the estimated region covering all the group members is obtained. Algorithm analysis provides the fundamental limits to the accuracy of localizing a target group. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to the existing hull algorithm due to the reduction in estimation error, which is between 10% and 40% of the hull algorithm, with a similar density of sensors. And when the density of sensors increases, the localization accuracy of the proposed algorithm improves dramatically.

In the Raymond mill grinding processes,high-accuracy control for the current of Raymond mill is vital to enhance the product quality and production efficiency as well as cut down the consumption of spare ***,strong external disturbances,such as variations of ore hardness and ore size,always *** is not easy to make the current of Raymond mill constant due to these strong *** control strategies have been proposed to control the grinding ***,most of them(such as PID and MPC)reject disturbances merely through feedback regulation and do not deal with the disturbances directly,which may lead to poor control performance when strong disturbances *** improve disturbance rejection performance,a control scheme based on PI and disturbance observer is proposed in this *** scheme combines a feedforward compensation part based on disturbance observer and a feedback regulation part using *** test results illustrate that the proposed method can obtain remarkable superiority in disturbance rejection compared with PI method in the Raymond mill grinding processes.

Sliding mode tracking control for miniature unmanned helicopters

A sliding mode control design for a miniature unmanned helicopter is presented. The control objective is to let the helicopter track some predefined velocity and yaw trajectories. A new sliding mode control design method is developed based on a linearized dynamic model. In order to facilitate the control design, the helicopter＇s dynamic model is divided into two subsystems,such as the longitudinal-lateral and the heading-heave subsystem. The proposed controller employs sliding mode control technique to compensate for the immeasurable flapping angles＇ dynamic effects and external disturbances. The global asymptotic stability（GAS） of the closed-loop system is proved by the Lyapunov based stability analysis. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed controller can achieve superior tracking performance compared with the proportionalintegral-derivative（PID） and linear-quadratic regulator（LQR） cascaded controller in the presence of wind gust disturbances.

Improved Rao-Blackwellized particle filter for simultaneous robot localization and person-tracking with single mobile sensor

A probabilistic algorithm is proposed for the problem of simultaneous robot localization and peopletracking （SLAP） using single onboard sensor in situations with sensor noise and global uncertainties over the observer＇s pose. By the decomposition of the joint distribution according to the Rao-Blackwell theorem, posteriors of the robot pose are sequentially estimated over time by a smoothed laser perception model and an improved resampling scheme with evolution strategies; the conditional distribution of the person＇s position is estimated using unscented Kalman filter （UKF） to deal with the nonlinear dynamic of human motion. Experiments conducted in a real indoor service robot scenario validate the favorable performance of the positional accuracy as well as the improved computational efficiency.

In this paper the distributed asymptotic consensus problem is addressed for a group of high-order nonaffine agents with uncertain dynamics,nonvanishing disturbances and unknown control directions under directed networks.A class of auxiliary variables are first introduced which forms second-order filters and induces all measurable signals of agents’*** view of this property,a distributed robust integral of the sign of the error(DRISE)design combined with the Nussbaum-type function is presented that guarantees not only the desired asymptotic consensus,but also the uniform boundedness of all closed-loop *** with the traditional sliding mode control(SMC)technique,the main feature of our approach is that the integral operation in the proposed control algorithm is designed to be adopted in a continuous manner and ensures less chattering *** results for a group of Duffing-Holmes chaotic systems are employed to verify our theoretical analysis.

In this paper, the exponential stability analysis for ODE switched systems with time delay is extended to distributed parameter switched systems(DPSS) in Hilbert space. For a given family of exponential stable subsystems, this paper focuses on finding conditions to guarantee the overall DPSS' exponential stability. Based on semigroup theory, by applying piecewise Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals method incorporated average dwell time approach, sufficient conditions for exponential stability are derived. These conditions are given in the form of linear operator inequalities(LOIs)where the decision variables are operators in Hilbert space, and the stability properties depend on switching rule. Being applied to heat switched propagation equations, these LOIs are reduced to standard Linear Matrix Inequalities(LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed result.
