This paper investigates the passivity-based fault detection of semi-Markov jump systems with time-varying delays. By constructing the filter type residual generator and model transformation, the augmented error system is first established. Then, by means of Lyapunov-Krasovskii approach, fault detection conditions are given such that the augmented error systems can satisfy the passivity performance. The desired fault detection gains can be obtained with the help of matrix techniques. The simulation example is presented to show the validity of the design method.

The localization problem for sensor networks with communication and measurement noises is studied in this paper. A robust distributed iterative algorithm called ECHO-CMN is presented based on the signed barycentric coordinate representation, which can be calculated only by relative distance measurements. In the algorithm, a dither is added to the sensor states before quantization to randomize the quantization error. To attenuate the communication noise, a gain parameter which decays to zero is used. An unbiased distance estimator is constructed, and nodes can take advantage of the estimator to update the distance estimation before each localization iteration. It can be proved that ECHO-CMN converges to the exact location of each sensor almost surely under some mild assumptions on the noise. Numerical studies illustrate the proposed localization algorithm.

This paper proposes a modified similar formation algorithm with which agents can overcome biased measurement errors online and reach any desired generic formation shape in the expectation sense. In the copper electrolytic refining process, the short-circuit failure among the electrodes usually exists. When it occurs, the temperature distribution is often abnormal, accompanied by local or overall overheating. This paper proposes a novel processing method for infrared temperature images to effectively detect the short-circuit fault and locate the accurate malfunctioning spots. The design procedure contains contrast enhancement, filter denoising, edge detection, image segmentation, high temperature electrode positioning. Finally, experimental results show that the proposed method can guarantee real-time processing of the infrared image of the electrolytic cell and accurately mark the malfunctioning position of electrodes with high temperature fault.

Amphibious salamanders often swing their waist to coordinate quadruped walking in order to improve their crawling speed. A robot with a swing waist joint, like an amphibious salamander, is used to mimic this locomotion.A control method is designed to allow the robot to maintain the rotational speed of its legs continuous and avoid impact between its legs and the ground. An analytical expression is established between the amplitude of the waist joint and the step length. Further, an optimization amplitude is obtained corresponding to the maximum stride. The simulation results based on automatic dynamic analysis of mechanical systems(ADAMS) and physical experiments verify the rationality and validity of this expression.

This paper presents a simple and robust feature descriptor method, namely local dominant orientation feature histogram (LDOFH). In this method, the discriminant histogram contains dominant orientation, and the corresponding relative energy value is obtained by calculating the direction and the amplitude of the gradient of each pixel over a local patch. The LM-NNDA (Yang et al. in Pattern Recognit 44:1387–1402, 2011) method based on the principal component analysis (PCA) method is finally employed to reduce the redundancy information and get the low-dimensional and discriminative features. We apply this descriptor on AR, IMM face image databases. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed LDOFH method.

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is the basis of many protocol suites such as ZigBee, WirelessHART and MiWi popular in Internet of Things systems, wireless sensor networks, and industrial wireless networks. In practice, due to its working bands are free to access, IEEE 802.15.4 based networks often suffer from interference which will deteriorate the network performance. In this paper, we model the interference as an on-off process and propose a new analytical model for IEEE 802.15.4 based networks which quantitatively characterizes how such interference affects the network throughput. We also conduct extensive simulations which demonstrate the accuracy of the model.
