Global State control for a Class of Inherently Higher-order Parameterized Nonlinear Time-delay systems Based on Homogeneous Domination Approach

This paper addresses the problem of global state feedback stabilization for a class of inherently higher-order parameterized nonlinear systems subject to time-delay. By using the homogeneous domination approach, we construct a homogeneous state feedback controller with an adaptive strategy. A constructive design method is developed based an effective coupling of the inductive method and a sign function, leading to adaptive regulators with minimal parameterization. With the aid of a homogeneous Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, the closedloop systems can be asymptotically stabilized globally. © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. Enhanced biologically inspired model for image recognition based on a novel patch selection method with moment

Biologically inspired model (BIM) for image recognition is a robust computational architecture, which has attracted widespread attention. BIM can be described as a four-layer structure based on the mechanisms of the visual cortex. Although the performance of BIM for image recognition is robust, it takes the randomly selected ways for the patch selection, which is sightless, and results in heavy computing burden. To address this issue, we propose a novel patch selection method with oriented Gaussian-Hermite moment (PSGHM), and we enhanced the BIM based on the proposed PSGHM, named as PBIM. In contrast to the conventional BIM which adopts the random method to select patches within the feature representation layers processed by multi-scale Gabor filter banks, the proposed PBIM takes the PSGHM way to extract a small number of representation features while offering promising distinctiveness. To show the effectiveness of the proposed PBIM, experimental studies on object categorization are conducted on the CalTech05, TU Darmstadt (TUD), and GRAZ01 databases. System simulation of an untreated sewage source heat pump

The paper studies the characteristics of heat pumps used in untreated-sewage source where the matter enters the heat pump directly in winter. The system model is established first. Then the changes of the variable parameters, including the sewage and water temperatures at the inlets of the heat pump and the compressor frequency, are simulated to assess their influence on the system performance. Then, the system is compared with those used in indirect mode to observe the different heating capacities. The results show that most parameters, except the condensation heat transfer coefficient, change as a sine wave, the same as the sewage and water temperatures at the inlets of the heat pump. COP is about 3.75 in the range of the temperature fluctuation of 1℃. The heating capacity and consumed power are 12.9 and 3.45kW when the sewage temperature is 13℃ at the inlet. When the compressor frequency increases from 25Hz, and the sewage and water temperatures at the inlet take on impulse signals, the system parameters produce rapid changes at the impulse point, and become unstable in a short time. By comparison with the indirect-mode system, it is shown that the heating capacity of direct-mode system increases by 7~8%, showing greater advantage of energy conservation. © 2016, UK Simulation Society. A disturbance observer(DOB) based finite control set predictive torque control(PTC) scheme for induction motors subject to lumped disturbances is proposed in this *** control an induction motor using the inverter switching character directly,the finite control set predictive torque control(PTC) method is studied which evaluates the electromagnetic torque and stator flux in the object *** optimized switching vector is choosed to control the insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBTs),it also can minimize the error between reference signals and predicted *** to direct torque control(DTC),PTC method does not need a modulator and an internal current PI controller,but the speed loop also adopts the PI *** improving the disturbance reject ability and simplifying the PTC control structure,this work introduces a novel PTC method based on DOB technique which does not need the PI speed controller.

This paper concerns with a novel generalized policy iteration (GPI) algorithm with approximation errors. Approximation errors are explicitly considered in the GPI algorithm. The properties of the stable GPI algorithm with approximation errors are analyzed. The convergence of the developed algorithm is established to show that the iterative value function is convergent to a finite neighborhood of the optimal performance index function. Finally, numerical examples and comparisons are presented.

Towards Realistic Face Photo-Sketch Synthesis via Composition-Aided GANs

Face photo-sketch synthesis aims at generating a facial sketch/photo conditioned on a given photo/sketch. It is of wide applications including digital entertainment and law enforcement. Precisely depicting face photos/sketches remains challenging due to the restrictions on structural realism and textural consistency. While existing methods achieve compelling results, they mostly yield blurred effects and great deformation over various facial components, leading to the unrealistic feeling of synthesized images. To tackle this challenge, in this work, we propose to use the facial composition information to help the synthesis of face sketch/photo. Specially, we propose a novel composition-aided generative adversarial network (CA-GAN) for face photo-sketch synthesis. In CA-GAN, we utilize paired inputs including a face photo/sketch and the corresponding pixel-wise face labels for generating a sketch/photo. In addition, to focus training on hard-generated components and delicate facial structures, we propose a compositional reconstruction loss. Finally, we use stacked CA-GANs (SCA-GAN) to further rectify defects and add compelling details. Experimental results show that our method is capable of generating both visually comfortable and identity-preserving face sketches/photos over a wide range of challenging data. Our method achieves the state-of-the-art quality, reducing best previous Fréchet Inception distance (FID) by a large margin. A new disturbance rejection method to achieves good control performance for a nonlinear time-delay system is presented in this paper. This method effectively reject any disturbances. First, the configuration of the control system is constructed based on the equivalent-input-disturbance method. Then, a sufficient condition for global uniform ultimate boundedness and feedback controller are developed using linear matrix inequality. Finally, the effectiveness of the method is proved by a numerical simulation.

This paper addresses stability problem for a class of networked control systems (NCSs) with network attacks. As a network attack to control systems, denial-of-service attacks are fully taken into account in the NCSs modelling. Under the scenario that there exist denial-of-service attacks in the communication channel, a closed-loop system with an error function is provided for the studied NCSs, where the denial-of-service attacks are well considered. Then based on the above constructed system model, one sufficient condition is derived for ensuring the uniformly ultimately boundedness of the derived system under consideration, and the upper bound of the maximum allowable number of denial-of-service attack is obtained. Moreover, the celebrated time-delay system technology method is introduced to improve the result of the upper bound of the maximum allowable number of denial-of-service attack. Finally, one numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Adaptive Sliding Mode control for Re-entry Attitude of Near Space Hypersonic Vehicle Based on Backstepping Design

Combining sliding mode control method with radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), this paper proposes a robust adaptive control scheme based on backstepping design for re-entry attitude tracking control of near space hypersonic vehicle (NSHV) in the presence of parameter variations and external disturbances. In the attitude angle loop, a robust adaptive virtual control law is designed by using the adaptive method to estimate the unknown upper bound of the compound uncertainties. In the angular velocity loop, an adaptive sliding mode control law is designed to suppress the effect of parameter variations and external disturbances. The main benefit of the sliding mode control is robustness to parameter variations and external disturbances. To further improve the control performance, RBFNNs are introduced to approximate the compound uncertainties in the attitude angle loop and angular velocity loop, respectively. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, the tracking errors are shown to be asymptotically stable. Simulation results show that the proposed control system attains a satisfied control performance and is robust against parameter variations and external disturbances. © 2014 Chinese Association of Automation.

Towards an Esox lucius inspired multimodal robotic fish

In this paper, we further explore multimodal locomotion via an updated robotic fish model based on Esox lucius. Besides the improved actuation properties like higher torque servomotors and powerful electronics,the robotic fish has some innovative mechanical design to pursue diverse swimming modes and superior performance. Specifically, we introduced a ±50° yawing head joint that functions as the neck for enhancing turning ability. A pair of pectoral mechanisms with two DOFs per fin is constructed to achieve 3-D swimming and to enrich multiple pectoral motions. At the control level, an improved central pattern generator(CPG) model allowing for free adjustment of the phase relationship among outputs is employed to produce rhythmic signals of multimodal swimming. Extensive experiments were carried out to examine how characteristic parameters in CPGs including amplitude, frequency, and phase lag affect the swimming performance. As a result, the robotic fish successfully performed various locomotion actions such as forward swimming, backward swimming, turning, diving, surfacing, as well as three pectoral motions in the form of pitching, heaving, and *** found that small phase lag between oscillating joints which means large propulsive body wave length and undulation width could lead to a faster swimming in body and/or caudal fin(BCF) locomotion.
