This paper studies the distributed filtering problem of sensor networks, where a set of heterogeneous sensing nodes is required to estimate the state of a linear discrete-time dynamic system in a collaborative manner. Due to limited sensing range and communication constraints, just part of sensors can get observations of the process and a consensus based sub-optimal filtering algorithm is designed. The convergence properties of the estimation error covariance is further studied, and a necessary and sufficient convergence condition is provided based on LMIs. This condition shows that the convergence of the algorithm requires the target node in the extended topology of network is globally reachable and each sensing node is observable to the process. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the results.

Towards an Esox lucius inspired multimodal robotic fish

In this paper, we further explore multimodal locomotion via an updated robotic fish model based on Esox lucius. Besides the improved actuation properties like higher torque servomotors and powerful electronics,the robotic fish has some innovative mechanical design to pursue diverse swimming modes and superior performance. Specifically, we introduced a ±50° yawing head joint that functions as the neck for enhancing turning ability. A pair of pectoral mechanisms with two DOFs per fin is constructed to achieve 3-D swimming and to enrich multiple pectoral motions. At the control level, an improved central pattern generator(CPG) model allowing for free adjustment of the phase relationship among outputs is employed to produce rhythmic signals of multimodal swimming. Extensive experiments were carried out to examine how characteristic parameters in CPGs including amplitude, frequency, and phase lag affect the swimming performance. As a result, the robotic fish successfully performed various locomotion actions such as forward swimming, backward swimming, turning, diving, surfacing, as well as three pectoral motions in the form of pitching, heaving, and *** found that small phase lag between oscillating joints which means large propulsive body wave length and undulation width could lead to a faster swimming in body and/or caudal fin(BCF) locomotion.

A novel method for nonlinear time-varying systems identification based on multi-dimensional Taylor network and variable forgetting factor recursive least squares algorithm is proposed. In this paper, the connection weight coefficients of multi-dimensional Taylor network are regarded as time-varying parameters, which are trained by the variable forgetting factor recursive least squares algorithm, to reflect the input-output change of nonlinear time-varying systems. Simulation results show that the method proposed in this paper is valid. © 2015

Optimal capacity planning and optimal production control are both very important to the improvement of the performance of a manufacturing system. However, in existing research and practice, the two problems are usually studied separately, although they actually depend on each other. In this paper, we investigate the problem of integrated capacity planning and production control of a multiple-parallel machine and single-part-type manufacturing system, in which every machine has the same maximum production rate, failure rate and repair rate, so that better performances on both sides can be obtained. To solve this problem, firstly, we develop the method of computing the probability distribution of the state variables for a parallel-machine system under the hedging point policy. Based on that, the average production cost for inventory holding and demand backlog are evaluated. A derivative-based analytical method of optimizing the hedging point is proposed to minimize the production cost, and a binary search algorithm is employed to optimize the production capacity. Finally, numerical experiments are conducted to verify the feasibility of this method, and the effectiveness of this algorithm.

Using the pseudo-generalized Hamiltonian method, this paper investigates the decentralized nonlinear robust coordinated control of multiple static synchronous compensators(STATCOMs) in multi-machine multiload power systems. First,the uncertain nonlinear differential algebraic equation model is constructed for the power system. Then, the dissipative pseudogeneralized Hamiltonian realization of the system is established by means of variable transformation and prefeedback ***, based on the obtained dissipative pseudo-generalized Hamiltonian realization, a new-style decentralized nonlinear robust coordinated controller is put forward. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the control scheme.

This paper is concerned with the reliable H control problem for discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with time-varying delays and stochastic actuator faults based on a novel summation inequality. A discrete-time homogeneous Markov chain is used to represent the stochastic behavior of actuator faults. By employing a fuzzy basis-dependent Lyapunov functional and the novel summation inequality, an improved sufficient condition is established to ensure that the resultant closedloop system is stochastically stable with an H performance index. Meanwhile, the solvability condition for the reliable H control is also established, by which the reliable H fuzzy controller can be solved from linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the present approach. © 2016 IEEE.

People write online documents from different personal perspectives. The competitive perspectives they hold reflect the conflicts in their fundamental stances and viewpoints. For many security-related applications, it is both beneficial and critical to identify the competitive perspectives implied in online documents. Previous work on competitive perspective identification is based on word features, which did not consider that the word usage for perspective expression varies with topics in documents. Thus topic information can be incorporated and contribute to a more fine-grained treatment of perspective identification. Motivated by this, this paper proposes an approach for competitive perspective identification in online documents via topic based refinement. Our approach refines the basic word feature-based perspective identification model with latent semantic information. In addition, we develop a self-adaptive process to fit the model parameters automatically. Experimental study shows the effectiveness of our approach compared to the related work and the baseline methods.

As a special type of object detection, pedestrian detection in generic scenes has made a significant progress trained with large amounts of labeled training data manually. While the models trained with generic dataset work bad when they are directly used in specific scenes. With special viewpoints, flow light and backgrounds, datasets from specific scenes are much different from the datasets from generic scenes. In order to make the generic scene pedestrian detectors work well in specific scenes, the labeled data from specific scenes are needed to adapt the models to the specific scenes. While labeling the data manually spends much time and money, especially for specific scenes, each time with a new specific scene, large amounts of images must be labeled. What’s more, the labeling information is not so accurate in the pixels manually and different people make different labeling information. In this paper, we propose an ACP-based method, with augmented reality’s help, we build the virtual world of specific scenes, and make people walking in the virtual scenes where it is possible for them to appear to solve this problem of lacking labeled data and the results show that data from virtual world is helpful to adapt generic pedestrian detectors to specific scenes. Application of Hilbert-Huang decomposition to reduce noise and characterize for NMR FID signal of proton precession magnetometer

The parameters in a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) free induction decay (FID) signal contain information that is useful in magnetic field measurement, magnetic resonance sounding (MRS) and other related applications. A real time sampled FID signal is well modeled as a finite mixture of exponential sequences plus noise. We propose to use the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) for noise reduction and characterization, where the generalized Hilbert-Huang represents a way to decompose a signal into so-called intrinsic mode function (IMF) along with a trend, and obtain instantaneous frequency data. Moreover, the HHT for an FID signal's feature analysis is applied for the first time. First, acquiring the actual untuned FID signal by a developed prototype of proton magnetometer, and then the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is performed to decompose the noise and original FID. Finally, the HHT is applied to the obtained IMFs to extract the Hilbert energy spectrum, to indicate the energy distribution of the signal on the frequency axis. By theory analysis and the testing of an actual FID signal, the results show that, compared with general noise reduction methods such as auto correlation and singular value decomposition (SVD), combined with the proposed method can further suppress the interfered signals effectively, and can obtain different components of FID signal, which can use to identify the magnetic anomaly, the existence of groundwater etc. This is a very important property since it can be exploited to separate the FID signal from noise and to estimate exponential sequence parameters of FID signal.
