In this paper, a key performance indicator (KPI) related multiplicative fault diagnosis scheme is proposed for static industrial processes. This scheme is developed for an alternative algorithm to the standard partial least squares (PLS) based process monitoring, where no design parameter like "latent variable number" is involved. Based on both normal and faulty data sets, the multiplicative fault information is firstly estimated. With this knowledge, the most critical low-level control loop/component is further identified. Different from the existing data-driven additive fault diagnosis approaches, this scheme aims to handle the second order statistics, which is of fatal importance for KPI-related fault diagnosis. Finally, an academic example is investigated to illustrate the functionality of this scheme.

Quadruped robot is expected to serve in complex conditions such as mountain road,grassland,etc.,therefore we desire a walking pattern generation that can guarantee both the speed and the stability of the quadruped *** order to solve this problem,this paper focuses on the stability for the tort pattern and proposes trot pattern generation for quadruped robot on the basis of ZMP stability *** foot trajectory is first designed based on the work space *** the ZMP and stability margin is computed to achieve the optimal trajectory of the midpoint of the hip joint of the *** angles of each joint are finally obtained through the inverse kinematics ***,the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by the results from the simulation and the experiment on the quadruped robot in BIT.

In this paper, we propose a unified TDMA-based scheduling protocol for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications. In the proposed TDMA-based scheduling protocol, the roadside infrastructure collects the information from the vehicles within its communication coverage through a control channel at the beginning of each transmission frame and then decides how to allocate the time slots to the vehicles for their data transmission requests based on a new designed weight-factor-based scheduler. The provided weight factor jointly takes into consideration the channel quality of communication links, the speed based fairness among vehicles, and different access categories. Simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed scheduling protocol in terms of the network throughput performance, the fairness among the vehicles, and different accessing priorities of different access categories.

Discovering temporal patterns and changes in tobacco use has important practical implications in tobacco control. This paper presents one of the first comprehensive international studies of seasonal smoking patterns based on online searches performed. Using periodogram and cross-correlation, we find that smoking-related search behavior shows strong seasonality effect across countries. In addition, there are significant pairwise associations between such seasonality in different countries.

In this paper, we for the first time consider the space-time network coding (STNC) to propose a novel cooperative data dissemination strategy in the time-division multiple access (TDMA) manner for the vehicle network, to overcome the short-comings of the traditional network coding (NC) techniques with carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol, i.e., high signal detection complexity and channel collision problem. An optimal relay selection strategy in the procedure of cooperative data dissemination is proposed to maximize the average system capacity for the data dissemination. In a addition, a suboptimal relay selection strategy is put forward to reduce the computation complexity and thus makes the developed data dissemination strategy more practical. Compared with the non-cooperative data dissemination, the proposed cooperative data dissemination via STNC has better performance in terms of the average system capacity, the average user equipment (UE) capacity, and the average data dissemination delay.

The design and control methods of robotic system for vascular interventional surgery is studied in this paper. By considering the characteristics of vascular interventional surgery and operation habits of surgeon, a master-slave remote control catheter system is presented. The system consists of three parts: the operation handle, the catheter manipulator and the host computer. The operation handle is designed to simulate the surgeon's surgical procedure, and the catheter manipulator tracks the handle's movements in both translation and rotation directions. Real time communication between the operation handle and the catheter manipulator has been built based on the host computer. Effectiveness and speed tracking performance between the catheter manipulator and the handle was validated by simulation experiments on a human vascular model.

A fast convergence deadlock control strategy of Petri nets based on MIP algorithm

This paper presents a deadlock prevention method for a class of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) where deadlocks are caused by unmarked siphons in the Petri net. In order to prevent deadlock, we propose a new algorithm to forbid the bad states maximally at each iteration so that the number of reachable states comes nearest to the optimal one. First, compute a maximal unmarked siphon by using an MIP algorithm. Then, obtain a subnet based on the unmarked siphon. Next, compute all minimal siphons of the subnet and add monitors to control them. We choose the right minimal siphon to control at last by comparison of their state number. This strategy is an iterative method. With the development of this algorithm, we avoid the redundant monitors, and hence significantly improve the computational efficiency. Finally, the proposed method is illustrated by using an example.

In a world where possessing raw materials or manufacturing commodities are not sufficient for long-term economic success, innovativeness and a knowledge-based economy form the basis for prosperity. In this report, we discuss the link between a nation's higher education system and its ability to bring about and foster innovativeness and economic growth. In particular, we will concentrate on the roles that universities play in the national innovation system. Some of the questions we address include: How strong a link is there between the education system and nation's innovativeness? How important is industry-academia collaboration? From the perspective of a knowledge-based economy, what would an ideal university be like? To answer these questions, we summarize key findings from the literature. The aim of this report is to present the key factors and decisions that should be considered in future higher education strategies.

Micro-simulation becomes more and more important in the Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) research, because it can provide detailed descriptions of the system. For a multi-agent systems (MAS) modeling of an ITS, the computation burden is large, as it involves the computation of the state changing of all the agents. And, there are many multi-objective optimization problems in the ITS research. In this paper, we solve the traffic light signaling optimization problem and we take the average delay time and the average stop times as two objectives. We use a famous method of Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II). As NSGA-II can be viewed as an intelligent way of running a number of micro-simulations, usually the computation burden is huge. Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have been a popular tool for parallel computing. The real transportation system runs in parallel and we think that a parallel tool is more suitable for the simulation and optimization of the system. We test GPU based NSGA-II method on a 4 intersection lattice road network, and on the 18 intersection road network of the Zhongguancun area of Beijing. Compared with the CPU version, the GPU version implementation achieves a speedup factor of 21.46 and 27.64 respectively.

Recently, the rapidly increasing demand for cutting of large-sized flat work pieces calls for the emergence of large waterjet cutting machine tools. Multi-bridge waterjet cutting machines are one of the preferred solutions. However, there must be an overlap between the work areas of any pair of adjacent bridges on each of which a workhead with a nozzle is installed in a multi-bridge machine to ensure that no dead zones exist for cutting. It means that a pair of adjacent bridges may crash with each other over their superposed processing area and result in damages or a breakdown of the machine. It is an interference problem that a multi-bridge machine suffers from. This paper proposes a coordination policy to avoid interference, where the dimensional overlap of any pair of adjacent bridges is transformed into those of their processing time sequences. Thus, by shifting the processing time sequences to eliminate the time overlaps, the collision between the corresponding two bridges can be avoided. Subsequently, to enhance reliability of the system, a GA-based optimization algorithm incorporated with the coordination policy is designed for scheduling the multiple cutting paths of a machine to minimize the totally potential need of coordination. The validity of the presented method is confirmed by applying it into a case study. © 2012 CIE & SAIIE.
