Communication-centric Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) has been recognized as a promising methodology to implement wireless sensing functionality over existing network architectures, due to its cost-effectiveness and backward compatibility to legacy cellular systems. However, the inherent randomness of the communication signal may incur huge fluctuations in sensing capabilities, leading to unfavorable detection and estimation performance. To address this issue, we elaborate on random ISAC signal processing methods in this article, aiming at improving the sensing performance without unduly deteriorating the communication functionality. Specifically, we commence by discussing the fundamentals of sensing with random communication signals, including the performance metrics and optimal ranging waveforms. Building on these concepts, we then present a general framework for random ISAC signal transmission, followed by an in-depth exploration of time-domain pulse shaping, frequency-domain constellation shaping, and spatial-domain precoding methods. We provide a comprehensive overview of each of these topics, including models, results, and design guidelines. Finally, we conclude this article by identifying several promising research directions for random ISAC signal transmission. © 2025 IEEE.

3D Single-pixel imaging with active sampling patterns and learning based reconstruction

Single-pixel imaging (SPI) is significant for applications constrained by transmission bandwidth or lighting band, where 3D SPI can be further realized through capturing signals carrying depth. Sampling strategy and reconstruction algorithm are the key issues of SPI. Traditionally, random patterns are often adopted for sampling, but this blindly passive strategy requires a high sampling rate, and even so, it is difficult to develop a reconstruction algorithm that can maintain higher accuracy and robustness. In this paper, an active strategy is proposed to perform sampling with targeted scanning by designed patterns, from which the spatial information can be easily reordered well. Then, deep learning methods are introduced further to achieve 3D reconstruction, and the ability of deep learning to reconstruct desired information under low sampling rates are analyzed. Abundant experiments verify that our method improves the precision of SPI even if the sampling rate is very low, which has the potential to be extended flexibly in similar systems according to practical needs. A Multi-population Integrated Approach for Capacitated Location Routing

The capacitated location-routing problem involves determining the depots from a set of candidate capacitated depot locations and finding the required routes from the selected depots to serve a set of customers whereas minimizing a cost function that includes the cost of opening the chosen depots, the fixed utilization cost per vehicle used, and the total cost (distance) of the routes. This paper presents a multi-population integrated framework in which a multi-depot edge assembly crossover generates promising offspring solutions from the perspective of both depot location and route edge assembly. The method includes an effective neighborhood-based local search, a feasibility-restoring procedure and a diversification-oriented mutation. Of particular interest is the multi-population scheme which organizes the population into multiple subpopulations based on depot configurations. Extensive experiments on 281 benchmark instances from the literature show that the algorithm performs remarkably well, by improving 101 best-known results (new upper bounds) and matching 84 best-known results. Aiming at the problem that Seismocardiography (SCG) signal detection cannot be promoted due to the bulkiness of the equipment and the SCG containing 7 fiducial points is difficult to extract, this paper proposes a non-contact SCG signal detection algorithm based on the circulant singular spectrum analysis (CiSSA) that runs on a millimeter-wave radar platform. In order to make the detection equipment portable and achieve non-contact detection, this paper uses a millimeter-wave radar working in the 60-64GHz frequency band to collect the signal returned from the surface of the human chest cavity. Then the signal is processed by static clutter elimination and maximum energy distance gate positioning algorithm to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, especially to reduce the interference problem caused by people’s tiny movement. For the key problem that the SCG curve extracted by traditional filtering methods are fuzzy and the fiducial points are difficult to identify, the CiSSA method is used to improve the accuracy and completeness of SCG curve extraction. By CiSSA, the signal is embedded into trajectory matrix, and then decomposed into component matrices containing various frequency characteristics. Next, the component matrices are grouped according to the frequency distribution characteristics of the SCG signal, and finally the result of the grouping is reconstructed into a high-precision SCG signal with clear and distinguishable fiducial points. Experiments show that the proposed SCG detection method can accurately extract the SCG curve, clearly distinguish 7 fiducial points of the SCG, and the success rate of detection can reach 97%. This provides the possibility for the popularization of SCG signal detection.

The design, fabrication, testing and implementation of a new high-performance tungsten-rhenium thin film thermocouple are introduced. In this paper, tungsten-rhenium TFTCs are taken as the research object, after simulation analysis in COMSOL software and design, it is made by screen-printing technology and magnetron sputtering. This kind of thin film thermocouple primarily utilizes two kinds of electrode materials with varying composition combination, mainly tungsten with 5% rhenium and tungsten with 26% rhenium. Furthermore, high-temperature annealing is performed to maintain the mechanical properties and thus improve thermoelectric performance. The results demonstrate that the performance is reliable in the temperature range of 150-600 C° with a repeatability of 2.02%, providing application value for high-temperature in-situ sensing.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in millimeter wave is a key enabler for next-generation networks, which leverages large bandwidth and extensive antenna arrays, benefiting both communication and sensing functionalities. The associated high costs can be mitigated by adopting a hybrid beamforming structure. However, the well-studied monostatic ISAC systems face challenges related to full-duplex operation. To address this issue, this paper focuses on a three-dimensional bistatic configuration that requires only half-duplex base stations. To intuitively evaluate the error bound of bistatic sensing using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing waveforms, we propose a positioning scheme that combines angle-of-arrival and time-of-arrival estimation, deriving the closed-form expression of the position error bound (PEB). Using this PEB, we develop two hybrid beamforming algorithms for joint waveform design, aimed at maximizing achievable spectral efficiency (SE) while ensuring a predefined PEB threshold. The first algorithm leverages a Riemannian trust-region approach, achieving superior performance in terms of global optima and convergence speed compared to conventional gradient-based methods, but with higher complexity. In contrast, the second algorithm, which employs orthogonal matching pursuit, offers a more computationally efficient solution, delivering reasonable SE while maintaining the PEB constraint. With rapid urban population growth and urban-ization, along with increasing demand for developing the low- altitude economy, urban air mobility (UAM) is seen as a way to alleviate ground traffic congestion and promote the low-altitude economy. Due to frequent data computation, low latency require-ments, and limited energy, effective computation offloading and resource management are urgently needed. This paper assumes UAM aircraft transmit semantic information and proposes a computation offloading and resource allocation strategy based on edge computing (EC). In case of edge server failure, relay UAV s assist in information transmission, enabling UAM aircraft to offload tasks to other edge servers. We formulated an op-timization problem to minimize delay and energy consumption and designed the Federated- Td3algorithm, combining federated learning (FL) and twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3). Compared to two baseline algorithms, our algorithm reduced delay by 9.9% and 3.3%, and energy consumption by 14.1 % and 4.5%.

This paper presents a high-order disturbance observer-based attitude tracking controller design with prescribed performance for hypersonic vehicle. The lumped disturbances caused by parameters perturbations, external disturbances and unmodelled dynamics are estimated accurately by utilizing high-order disturbance observers. Based on the disturbances estimation,a composite attitude tracking controller with guaranteeing prescribed transient and steady performance is proposed and the stability analysis of the closed-loop system is rigorously analyzed using the Lyapunov technique. The proposed controller not only ensures the tracking errors are within the desired performance envelope but also considering the disturbance rejection. Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulations.

To improve the disturbance rejection ability and repetitive tracking accuracy of manipulators, a composite iterative learning control (ILC) scheme via generalized proportional integral observer (GPIO) is proposed. A high-order polynomial is first employed to model the time-varying disturbances that include unmodeled dynamics, parameter uncertainties and load fluctuations. A GPIO is then designed to estimate the disturbances and high-order time derivatives. By introducing estimations into a PD-type ILC at each iteration, a composite control scheme is obtained, such that the undesirable influence of time-varying disturbances can be effectively attenuated in the repetitive tracking process of manipulators. In this paper, the rigorous stability analysis of the closed-loop system is presented to guarantee that the tracking error exponentially converges to zero as the iteration number tends to infinity. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is finally verified by simulation results.

Internet of Things (IoT) device localization is fundamental to smart home functionalities, including indoor navigation and tracking of individuals. Traditional localization relies on relative methods utilizing the positions of anchors within a home environment, yet struggles with precision due to inherent inaccuracies in these anchor positions. In response, we introduce a cutting-edge smartphone-based localization system for IoT devices, leveraging the precise positioning capabilities of smartphones equipped with motion sensors. Our system employs artificial intelligence (AI) to merge channel state information from proximal trajectory points of a single smartphone, significantly enhancing line of sight (LoS) angle of arrival (AoA) estimation accuracy, particularly under severe multipath conditions. Additionally, we have developed an AI-based anomaly detection algorithm to further increase the reliability of LoS-AoA estimation. This algorithm improves measurement reliability by analyzing the correlation between the accuracy of reversed feature reconstruction and the LoS-AoA estimation. Utilizing a straightforward least squares algorithm in conjunction with accurate LoS-AoA estimation and smartphone positional data, our system efficiently identifies IoT device locations. Validated through extensive simulations and experimental tests with a receiving antenna array comprising just two patch antenna elements in the horizontal direction, our methodology has been shown to attain decimeter-level localization accuracy in nearly 90% of cases, demonstrating robust performance even in challenging real-world scenarios. Additionally, our proposed anomaly detection algorithm trained on Wi-Fi data can be directly applied to ultra-wideband, also outperforming the most advanced techniques. Copyright © 2024, The Authors.
