We are interested in developing a multi-goal generator to provide detailed goal representations that help to improve the performance of the adaptive critic design (ACD). In this paper we propose a hierarchical structure of goal generator networks to cascade external reinforcement into more informative internal goal representations in the ACD. This is in contrast with previous designs in which the external reward signal is assigned to the critic network directly. The ACD control system performance is evaluated on the ball-and-beam balancing benchmark under noise-free and various noisy conditions. Simulation results in the form of a comparative study demonstrate effectiveness of our approach.

To enhance classification performance by making use of easily available unlabelled data to overcome the scarcity of labelled data, this paper proposes an Embedded Co-Adaboost algorithm that integrates multi-view learning into the Adaboost learning framework and at the same time leverages the advantages of Co-training algorithm for performance enhancement. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in terms of the convergence rate, the accuracy, and the steady performance as compared to the original AdaBoost algorithm, without relying on redundant and sufficient feature sets. As a algorithm application in software engineering, the Embedded Co-AdaBoost has been applied to the classification of software document relations to improve the quality of the architecture design documents and the reusability of design knowledge.

Stability Analysis for High Frequency Networked control systems

This note generalizes the stability analysis for a high frequency networked control system. The high-frequency networked control system is described by a delta operator system with a high frequency constraint. Stability conditions are given for the high frequency delta operator system. Furthermore, by developing the generalized Kalman-Yakubovic-Popov lemma, improved stability conditions are also presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Some experiment results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed techniques.

With the fast development of Internet and its data scale, B2B (Business to Business), whose speed and high availability advantage is based on Internet, is eroding more and more market share of traditional business. In recent years, the new data processing technologies, such as cloud computing, assure the enhancement of computer's computing capacity;it has become possible for researchers to process and analyze the massive business data, including large scale customer data, and large scale commodity information. A new B2B platform frame, based on cloud computing with less running time and better response efficiency, is proposed here to promote transaction handle efficiency. By adoption of complex network theory and cloud computing technology, the new platform has been evaluated to decrease transaction handle time, and make more benefits. © 2012 IEEE.

Improved Rao-Blackwellized particle filter for simultaneous robot localization and person-tracking with single mobile sensor

A probabilistic algorithm is proposed for the problem of simultaneous robot localization and peopletracking （SLAP） using single onboard sensor in situations with sensor noise and global uncertainties over the observer＇s pose. By the decomposition of the joint distribution according to the Rao-Blackwell theorem, posteriors of the robot pose are sequentially estimated over time by a smoothed laser perception model and an improved resampling scheme with evolution strategies; the conditional distribution of the person＇s position is estimated using unscented Kalman filter （UKF） to deal with the nonlinear dynamic of human motion. Experiments conducted in a real indoor service robot scenario validate the favorable performance of the positional accuracy as well as the improved computational efficiency.

Learning control of dynamical systems based on Markov decision processes (MDPs) is an interdisciplinary research area of machine learning, control theory, and operations research. The main objective in this research area is to realize data-driven multi-stage optimal control for complex or uncertain dynamical systems. This paper presents a comprehensive survey on the theory, algorithms, and applications of MDP-based learning control of dynamical systems. Emphases are put on recent advances in the theory and methods of reinforcement learning (RL) and adaptive/approximate dynamic programming (ADP), including temporal-difference learning theory, value function approximation for continuous state and action spaces, direct policy search, approximate policy iteration, and adaptive critic designs. With the fast development of Internet and data volume increase in Internet, Internet is playing more important role in information spreading in recent years. It is reported that social network is a typical complex network expressed with scale free degree. Emergency cases are happening more and more often in China and all over the world, the governments has realized that it is necessary to monitor and manage the information spreading on social network. In this paper, a new experiment platform frame, which is based on SPA (Spreading Activation) model and social centrality, is proposed to validate the information spreading speed in social network, to help the administration department to manage social network more efficiently. © 2012 IEEE.

The paper discusses two important classification techniques, Fisher's linear discriminated analysis (FLDA) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). First, we propose a theoretical discussion, and then implement FLDA and SVM on several datasets of two classes and multiclass, a comparative experimental analysis among these two techniques aims at exploring and assessing the performance of FLDA and SVM classifiers. To sustain such analysis, the two classification techniques are compared with different training data sets and testing data sets. Different performance indicators have been used to support our experimental studies in a detailed and accurate way such as the classification accuracy. The results obtained on different datasets conclude that FLDA and SVM are valid and effective approaches for pattern classification and conclude their different performance and problems with different size datasets. Meanwhile, the paper employs a non-traditional method to get the training and testing data set, and concludes detailed pros and cons from the experiment results.

To further enhance emergency management skills of an organisation's emergency response personnel, emergency response training, especially 3D emergency drill, is currently becoming more and more important in the petrochemical sector. So, a novel 3D emergency drills system is designed and developed based on ACP approach, which can be used for mocking emergency response plan drills and evaluating the plan. A case study reveals that the performance of the system is good and the system can meet the needs of emergency response training and optimizing emergency response plan in petrochemical plants.

This paper considers the distributed consensus problem of multi-agent systems with general continuous-time linear time-invariant dynamics. Based on the relative output information of neighboring agents, two distributed adaptive dynamic consensus protocols are proposed, namely, the edge-based adaptive protocol which assigns a time-varying coupling weight to each edge in the communication graph and the node-based adaptive protocol which uses a time-varying coupling weight for each node. These two adaptive protocols are designed to ensure that consensus is reached in a fully distributed fashion for any undirected connected communication graphs without using any global information. A sufficient condition for the existence of these adaptive protocols is that each agent is stabilizable and detectable. The case with switching communication graphs is also studied.
