Particle-Assisted Deep Reinforcement Learning for Quantum State Manipulation

Applying deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to solve quantum control problems has become a popular research direction. However, the exploration capability and reward design for the learning agent, which usually affect the DRL's application performance, has not been sufficiently emphasized. In this article, we propose a particle-assisted DRL (PDRL) method to address the above concern by enhancing exploration capabilities and designing appropriate reward functions for efficient quantum state manipulation. In PDRL, each episode in the quantum learning process is characterized by three kinds of events, i.e., unidentifiable, identifiable, and successful events. To improve exploration, exploration particles and feedback particles are employed in the early learning phase when episodes end in identifiable and successful events, respectively. To assign rewards, three event-based reward functions are provided for the DRL's agent, exploration particles and feedback particles, respectively. Numerical results on single-qubit, two-qubit, and many-qubit systems validate the effectiveness of PDRL. Comparative results with existing DRL methods demonstrate the superior performance of PDRL for quantum state manipulation. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Rapid Detection 2-Butanone Gas Sensors Based on Biphase In2O3 Nanocubes Modified With Ag NPs and SnO2 QDs at Low Working Temperature

Increasing attention has been paid to environmental protection and human health. The 2-butanone is widely applied in industrial and pharmaceutical production causing small-area high-concentration harmful gas and large-area air pollution. The importance of quick and accurate detection is self-evident. In this work, the butanone-sensitive biphase In2O3 nanocubes codecorated with SnO2quantum dots (QDs) and Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared through a two-step hydrothermal strategy. Meanwhile, a fantastic detection speed and ultrahigh selectivity at lower operating temperatures were experimentally determined. The test results show that the 1 mol% SnO2 QDs and 3 mol% Ag NPs codecorated In2O3-based sensor have an ultrafast response speed (4.6 s) and a better response value (119) at the low working temperature ( (160 ◦C)) to 50-ppm 2-butanone gas. Compared to the previous work, it has significantly improved the cross-selectivity with acetone. With rh-In2O3 being highly defective crystal surfaces and abundant oxygen vacancies, the biphase homojunction plays a key role in decreasing working temperature, for electron flow between two crystalline phase interfaces. The electronic sensitization effect of the Ag element and the quantum effect of SnO2 QDs accelerate the detection speed. Moreover, the heterojunction between rh-In2 O3 and SnO2 and the Schottky junction between Ag NPs and c-In2O3 largely improve the response capability. The significance of this study is not only to provide a sensor that can accurately detect butanone gas in industrial production and air pollution but also to provide new design ideas for preparing rapid detection semiconductor gas sensors at low working temperatures. The sensor performance in this study indicates that this sensor design scheme can enhance the accuracy and detection speed of butanone sensors used in exhaust gas detection. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

With real-time identification through enhanced contrast, fluorescence molecular imaging in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) has been widely investigated in clinical and biomedical scenarios. However, a fundamental challenge of NIR-II fluorescence molecular imaging is the inevitable noise during the photon detection process. Imaging noise not only degrades the quality of images but also amplifies measurement uncertainty by overwhelming the true imaging signal. Moreover, the removal of noise in fluorescence imaging is a critical problem due to the tissue-dependent and multi-factorial characteristics of the imaging process. Supervised denoising networks trained with paired low-quality and high-quality samples have gained popularity with superior performance. Unfortunately, acquiring vast quantities of paired data is consistently a challenging or unattainable task in clinical practice. In this work, we demonstrate that the proposed self-supervised denoising diffusion model can directly suppress noise and enhance visual quality for NIR-II fluorescence molecular imaging without paired training data. Based on the cutting-edge conditional generation process for high quality image synthesis, we propose an adaptive-step guided denoising diffusion model (AGDD) that incorporates noise statistic distribution theory to adaptively determine the inference steps for blind image denoising. Quantitative results of in-vivo and clinical experiments illustrate that the proposed method is an effective self-supervised approach that surpasses competing alternatives, which will promote the development of high-quality and low-cost NIR-II fluorescence molecular imaging. © 2025 SPIE.

The advent of multi-omics approaches has revolutionized the field of oncology by enabling a comprehensive understanding of cancer biology through the integration of diverse biological data. This review aims to explore the synergy between three key omics domains: radiomics, genoproteomics, and pathomics. Radiomics involves extracting high-dimensional data from medical images, providing valuable insights into tumor heterogeneity and treatment response. Genoproteomics, encompassing both genomic and proteomic analyses, delves into the molecular mechanisms driving cancer progression and therapeutic resistance. Pathomics leverages advanced digital pathology techniques to quantitatively analyze tissue architecture and cellular morphology. We provide an in-depth overview of the methodologies and tools employed in each omics field, highlighting their specific applications in oncology, including cancer diagnosis, biomarker discovery, and prediction of treatment outcomes. Furthermore, we discuss the integration of multi-omics data, addressing the challenges and innovative solutions for harmonizing these complex datasets. Through an examination of recent advancements and case studies, we underscore the critical role of multi-omics in advancing our understanding of cancer and paving the way for more effective and personalized therapeutic strategies.

With the proliferation of cloud services and the continuous growth in enterprises' demand for dynamic multi-dimensional resources, the implementation of effective strategy for time-varying workload scheduling has become increasingly significant. In this paper, we propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based method for time-varying workload scheduling, aiming to allocate resources efficiently across servers in the cluster. Specifically, we integrate a classifier and queue scorer to construct a priority queue that exploits temporal resource utilization patterns across different workload classes. Then, we design parallel graph attention layers to capture the dimensional features and temporal dynamics of cloud server cluster. Moreover, we propose a DRL algorithm to generate scheduling strategies that can adapt to dynamic environments. Validation on real-world traces from Google cluster demonstrates that our method outperforms existing approaches in key metrics of cloud server cluster management. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Efficient, temperature-insensitive electromagnetic attenuation materials are critical for high microwave absorption at high temperatures. This study presents SiC/TiC/SiTiOC hybrid nanofiber mats constructed using an in-situ synthesis method;these mats incorporate SiC/TiC as the microwave loss unit and SiTiOC as the antioxidant unit, offering an innovative approach to high-temperature microwave absorption. The introduction of high-conductivity TiC not only optimizes the dielectric constant and impedance matching of the material but also enhances its thermal cycling stability. This design ensures steady electromagnetic attenuation, enabling the hybrid nanofiber mats to maintain robust absorption performance in the X-band, even at high temperatures. At 873 K, the material demonstrates an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.6 GHz and a minimum reflection loss of −45.55 dB. Compared to single-system absorbers, such as SiC/C nanofiber materials, with a single system, the multi-component SiC/TiC/SiTiOC hybrid nanofiber mats deliver reliable absorption performance in the temperature range of 293–873 K. This study confirms that highly conductive titanium-based ceramic materials used for dielectric property regulation effectively address the challenges of poor temperature stability and limited reusability in high-temperature carbon-ceramic absorbing materials, providing valuable insights and guidance for designing efficient microwave absorbers that can operate across a wide temperature range. © Science China Press 2025.

High Efficiency Wiener Filter-based Point Cloud Quality Enhancement for MPEG G-PCC

Point clouds, which directly record the geometry and attributes of scenes or objects by a large number of points, are widely used in various applications such as virtual reality and immersive communication. However, due to the huge data volume and unstructured geometry, efficient compression of point clouds is very crucial. The Moving Picture Expert Group is establishing a geometry-based point cloud compression (G-PCC) standard for both static and dynamic point clouds in recent years. Although lossy compression of G-PCC can achieve a very high compression ratio, the reconstruction quality is relatively low, especially at low bitrates. To mitigate this problem, we propose a high efficiency Wiener filter that can be integrated into the encoder and decoder pipeline of G-PCC to improve the reconstruction quality as well as the rate-distortion performance for dynamic point clouds. Specifically, we first propose a basic Wiener filter, and then improve it by introducing coefficients inheritance and variance-based point classification for the Luma component. Besides, to reduce the complexity of the nearest neighbor search during the application of the Wiener filter, we also propose a Morton code-based fast nearest neighbor search algorithm for efficient calculation of filter coefficients. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve average Bjøntegaard delta rates of -6.1%, -7.3%, and -8.0% for Luma, Chroma Cb, and Chroma Cr components, respectively, under the condition of lossless-geometry-lossy-attributes configuration compared to the latest G-PCC encoding platform (i.e., geometry-based solid content test model version 7.0 release candidate 2) by consuming affordable computational complexity. © 2025, CC BY.

Search Result Diversification Based on Query Facets

In search engines, different users may search for different information by issuing the same query. To satisfy more users with limited search results, search result diversification re-ranks the results to cover as many user intents as possible. Most existing intent-aware diversification algorithms recognize user intents as subtopics, each of which is usually a word, a phrase, or a piece of description. In this paper, we leverage query facets to understand user intents in diversification, where each facet contains a group of words or phrases that explain an underlying intent of a query. We generate subtopics based on query facets and propose faceted diversification approaches. Experimental results on the public TREC 2009 dataset show that our faceted approaches outperform state-of-the-art diversification models.

Indexing Future Trajectories of Moving Objects in a Constrained Network

Advances in wireless sensor networks and positioning technologies enable new applications monitoring moving objects. Some of these applications, such as traffic management, require the possibility to query the future trajectories of the objects. In this paper, we propose an original data access method, the ANR-tree, which supports predictive queries. We focus on real life environments, where the objects move within constrained networks, such as vehicles on roads. We introduce a simulation-based prediction model based on graphs of cellular automata, which makes full use of the network constraints and the stochastic traffic behavior. Our technique differs strongly from the linear prediction model, which has low prediction accuracy and requires frequent updates when applied to real traffic with velocity changing frequently. The data structure extends the R-tree with adaptive units which group neighbor objects moving in the similar moving patterns. The predicted movement of the adaptive unit is not given by a single trajectory, but instead by two trajectory bounds based on different assumptions on the traffic conditions and obtained from the simulation. Our experiments, carried on two different datasets, show that the ANR-tree is essentially one order of magnitude more efficient than the TPR-tree, and is much more scalable.

Multi-agent Collaboration for Vehicular Task Offloading Using Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) distributes resources such as computing, storage, and bandwidth to the side close to users, which can provide low-latency services to in-vehicle users, thus promising a more efficient and safer driving environment. However, due to the dynamic scale of vehicle and the variability of resource requirements, it is a significant challenge to quickly obtain effective task offloading in large-scale vehicle scenarios. The existing studies generally adopt the centralized decision-making method, with long decision-making time and high computational overhead, which cannot effectively achieve good offloading decisions in large-scale scenarios. To address these problems, we propose a Multi-agent Collaborative Method for vehicular task offloading using Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning called MCM-FDRL. First, each vehicle as an agent, independently makes offloading decisions based on local information. Next, the offloading decision model of each vehicle is obtained through federated reinforcement learning training. At runtime, an effective vehicle offloading plan can be gradually developed through multi-agent collaboration. Using two real-world datasets, experiments show that the MCM-FDRL has good adaptability and scalability. Moreover, compared to the state-of-the-art methods, the task's average response time of the MCM-FDRL is reduced by 9.75%-64.90%, respectively. © 2002-2012 IEEE.
