Depth and ego-motion estimations are essential for the localization and navigation of autonomous robots and autonomous driving. Recent studies make it possible to learn the per-pixel depth and ego-motion from the unlabeled monocular video. A novel unsupervised training framework is proposed with 3D hierarchical refinement and augmentation using explicit 3D geometry. In this framework, the depth and pose estimations are hierarchically and mutually coupled to refine the estimated pose layer by layer. The intermediate view image is proposed and synthesized by warping the pixels in an image with the estimated depth and coarse pose. Then, the residual pose transformation can be estimated from the new view image and the image of the adjacent frame to refine the coarse pose. The iterative refinement is implemented in a differentiable manner in this paper, making the whole framework optimized uniformly. Meanwhile, a new image augmentation method is proposed for the pose estimation by synthesizing a new view image, which creatively augments the pose in 3D space but gets a new augmented 2D image. The experiments on KITTI demonstrate that our depth estimation achieves state-of-the-art performance and even surpasses recent approaches that utilize other auxiliary tasks. Our visual odometry outperforms all recent unsupervised monocular learning-based methods and achieves competitive performance to the geometry-based method, ORB-SLAM2 with back-end optimization. The performance of machine learning algorithms heavily relies on the availability of a large amount of training data. However, in reality, data usually reside in distributed parties such as different institutions and may not be directly gathered and integrated due to various data policy constraints. As a result, some parties may suffer from insufficient data available for training machine learning models. In this paper, we propose a multi-party dual learning (MPDL) framework to alleviate the problem of limited data with poor quality in an isolated party. Since the knowledge sharing processes for multiple parties always emerge in dual forms, we show that dual learning is naturally suitable to handle the challenge of missing data, and explicitly exploits the probabilistic correlation and structural relationship between dual tasks to regularize the training process. We introduce a feature-oriented differential privacy with mathematical proof, in order to avoid possible privacy leakage of raw features in the dual inference process. The approach requires minimal modifications to the existing multi-party learning structure, and each party can build flexible and powerful models separately, whose accuracy is no less than non-distributed self-learning approaches. The MPDL framework achieves significant improvement compared with state-of-the-art multi-party learning methods, as we demonstrated through simulations on real-world datasets. Industrial Scene Text Detection with Refined Feature-attentive Network

Detecting the marking characters of industrial metal parts remains challenging due to low visual contrast, uneven illumination, corroded surfaces, and cluttered background of metal part images. Affected by these factors, bounding boxes generated by most existing methods could not locate low-contrast text areas very well. In this paper, we propose a refined feature-attentive network (RFN) to solve the inaccurate localization problem. Specifically, we first design a parallel feature integration mechanism to construct an adaptive feature representation from multi-resolution features, which enhances the perception of multi-scale texts at each scale-specific level to generate a high-quality attention map. Then, an attentive proposal refinement module is developed by the attention map to rectify the location deviation of candidate boxes. Besides, a re-scoring mechanism is designed to select text boxes with the best rectified location. To promote the research towards industrial scene text detection, we contribute two industrial scene text datasets, including a total of 102156 images and 1948809 text instances with various character structures and metal parts. Extensive experiments on our dataset and four public datasets demonstrate that our proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance. FCM-RDpA: TSK fuzzy regression model construction using fuzzy C-means clustering, regularization, droprule, and powerball adabelief

To effectively optimize Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy systems for regression problems, a mini-batch gradient descent with regularization, DropRule, and AdaBound (MBGD-RDA) algorithm was recently proposed. This paper further proposes FCM-RDpA, which improves MBGD-RDA by replacing the grid partition approach in rule initialization by fuzzy c-means clustering, and AdaBound by Powerball AdaBelief, which integrates recently proposed Powerball gradient and AdaBelief to further expedite and stabilize parameter optimization. Extensive experiments on 22 regression datasets with various sizes and dimensionalities validated the superiority of FCM-RDpA over MBGD-RDA, especially when the feature dimensionality is higher. We also propose an additional approach, FCM-RDpAx, that further improves FCM-RDpA by using augmented features in both the antecedents and consequents of the rules. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. CNN-Transformer fusion for improving maize kernel storage Quality: A new approach to reducing storage risks

The efficient identification of imperfect maize kernels is of crucial importance for optimizing storage management and ensuring quality preservation. image-based technologies, known for their rapid and non-destructive characteristics, play a pivotal role in this endeavor. However, these technologies encounter significant challenges due to high inter-class similarity and substantial intra-class variability among maize kernels. To address these challenges, we propose CTNet, an advanced model that synergistically integrates the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with the Transformer architecture. This integration is further enhanced by incorporating a Feature Attention Module (FAM) and a DW-Swin Transformer, which collectively facilitate the fusion of local and global features. A Fine-Grained Perception Module (FGPM) is employed to augment the model's sensitivity to subtle imperfections. The model, supplemented with a linear classifier, ensures precise discrimination of kernel quality. CTNet was trained on the comprehensive GrainSpace dataset and achieved 1.35 % higher accuracy than the baseline model, SwinTransformer, on the test set. Compared with other methods, our model demonstrates higher accuracy in identifying defective maize grains and achieves more efficient parameter utilization in its structure. Despite moderate parameters and FLOPs, it enhances recognition performance while maintaining low complexity. As imperfect maize grains directly impact quality and storage safety, the model's effective recognition capability is critical for reducing storage losses and ensuring safety, thus providing strong support for smart agriculture. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

A polynomial chaos approach to robust H∞ static output-feedback control with bounded truncation error

This article considers the H∞ static output-feedback control for linear time-invariant uncertain systems with polynomial dependence on probabilistic time-invariant parametric uncertainties. By applying polynomial chaos theory, the control synthesis problem is solved using a high-dimensional expanded system which characterizes stochastic state uncertainty propagation. A closed-loop polynomial chaos transformation is proposed to derive the closed-loop expanded system. The approach explicitly accounts for the closed-loop dynamics and preserves the L2-induced gain, which results in smaller transformation errors compared to existing polynomial chaos transformations. The effect of using finite-degree polynomial chaos expansions is first captured by a norm-bounded linear differential inclusion, and then addressed by formulating a robust polynomial chaos based control synthesis problem. This proposed approach avoids the use of high-degree polynomial chaos expansions to alleviate the destabilizing effect of truncation errors, which significantly reduces computational complexity. In addition, some analysis is given for the condition under which the robustly stabilized expanded system implies the robust stability of the original system. Multi-scale feature fusion distilled attention network for efficient image super-resolution

Efficient single image super-resolution (SISR) seeks to enhance reconstruction quality while minimizing computational complexity and model parameters for practical deployment on resource-constrained edge devices. A critical limitation of existing approaches lies in the restricted receptive fields of conventional convolutions, which hinder attention mechanisms and backbone networks from effectively capturing non-local features, ultimately degrading super-resolution performance. To solve this challenge, we propose a novel Multi-scale Feature Fusion Distilled Attention Network (MFFDAN) that synergizes multi-scale feature extraction with lightweight attention mechanisms. Our framework introduces three key innovations. First, we proposed a Multi-scale Convolution (MConv) module that dynamically extracts hierarchical features with multi-scale receptive fields while maintaining parameter efficiency, subsequently extended into a Multi-scale Feature Fusion Distillation Block (MFFDB). Second, we proposed a Distilled Spatial Attention (DSA) mechanism that enhances spatial feature interactions through multi-scale downsampling and distillation-based information refinement. Third, a lightweight Depth-wise Channel Attention (DCA) module optimized via depth-wise convolutions for efficient channel feature selection is proposed. These components are systematically integrated through residual connections to form the Multi-scale Feature Fusion Distilled Attention Block (MFFDAB), the core building block of our architecture. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MFFDAN achieves state-of-the-art performance while maintaining superior computational efficiency, achieving an optimal balance between reconstruction quality (PSNR/SSIM), model complexity (parameters/Multi-Adds), and inference speed across benchmark datasets. The proposed innovations provide a practical solution for deploying high-quality SISR models on edge computing platforms.

Combining Attractor Propagation with Differential Evolution for Three-echelon logistics distribution optimization

In the process of urban logistics distribution, how to achieve efficiently and timely logistics distribution within the distribution time limit has become an urgent problem to be solved in logistics management. Three-echelon logistics distribution is considered to be an effective strategy to alleviate urban congestion, improve liquidity and reduce pollution. In this paper, a mathematical model of three-echelon logistics distribution problem considering time window constraint is established based on directed graph, and a double-tier intelligent algorithm coordinated by Distance Entropy-based Attractor Propagation (DEBAP) clustering algorithm - Crossover-and-Selection based Differential Evolution (CSBDE) is proposed. DEBAP is responsible for the optimization of region partitioning and facility allocation. The obtained region partitioning and facility allocation scheme are transmitted to CSBDE for path planning. CSBDE feeds back the optimized path planning scheme to DEBAP, and the two-tier intelligent algorithm cooperates to complete the optimization of three-echelon logistics distribution system. In addition, this paper proposes a search strategy based on reachable distribution region and a facility allocation optimization strategy based on path length as weight to improve the efficiency of the algorithm. The example calculation shows that the mathematical model and combined intelligent algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively solve 3-echelon logistics distribution problem(3E-LDP), provide theoretical and methodological guidance for multi-echelon logistics distribution, and can be well implemented in practice to help logistics operators reduce operation costs and improve customer service. © 2022, The Authors. Resilient Distributed Predefined Time Secondary control for Cyber-Physical Microgrids

This paper proposed a resilient distributed predefined-time sliding mode control for islanded AC microgrids with external disturbances caused by noisy circumstances or cyber-attacks. By utilizing the predefined-time convergence theory, the voltage regulation and frequency restoration as well as active power sharing can be achieved within a predefined time, which is directly equal to an adjustable parameter. Furthermore, based on the integral sliding mode control approach, the proposed method can completely compensate the external disturbance. Different from some voltage control methods based on complex second-order consensus, a novel secondary controller is designed by adopting the virtual control technique, such that the voltage regulation can be achieved under a first-order consensus with a corresponding tracking controller. In addition, the direct Lyapunov method is utilized to prove the stability of islanded AC microgrids under the proposed controller, and the analysis of predefined-time convergence is also given. Finally, case studies on a microgrid test system with four distributed generator is built in the MATLAB/SimPowerSystems software environment are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed control scheme. © 2025 The Author(s). A novel TSK fuzzy system incorporating multiview collaborative transfer learning for personalized epileptic EEG detection

—In clinical practice, electroencephalography (EEG) plays an important role in the diagnosis of epilepsy. EEG-based computer-aided diagnosis of epilepsy can greatly improve the accuracy of epilepsy detection while reducing the workload of physicians. However, there are many challenges in practical applications for personalized epileptic EEG detection (i.e., training of detection model for a specific person), including the difficulty in extracting effective features from one single view, the undesirable but common scenario of lacking sufficient training data in practice, and the no guarantee of identically distributed training and test data. To solve these problems, we propose a TSK fuzzy system-based epilepsy detection algorithm that integrates multi-view collaborative transfer learning. To address the challenge due to the limitation of single-view features, multi-view learning ensures the diversity of features by extracting them from different views. The lack of training data for building a personalized detection model is tackled by leveraging the knowledge from the source domain (reference scene) to enhance the performance of the target domain (current scene of interest), where mismatch of data distributions between the two domains is resolved with adaption technique based on maximum mean discrepancy. Notably, the transfer learning and multi-view feature extraction are performed at the same time. Furthermore, the fuzzy rules of the TSK fuzzy system equip the model with strong fuzzy logic inference capability. Hence, the proposed method has the potential to detect epileptic EEG signals effectively, which is demonstrated with the positive results from a large number of experiments on the CHB-MIT dataset. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.
