Achieving consensus via nearest neighbor rules is an important prerequisite for multi-agent networks to accomplish collective tasks. A common assumption in consensus setup is that each agent interacts with all its neighbors. This paper examines whether network functionality and performance can be maintained-and even enhanced-when agents interact only with a subset of their respective (available) neighbors. As shown in the paper, the answer to this inquiry is affirmative. In this direction, we show that by exploring the monotonicity property of the Laplacian eigenvectors, a neighbor selection rule with guaranteed performance enhancements, can be realized for consensus-type networks. For distributed implementation, a quantitative connection between entries of Laplacian eigenvectors and the "relative rate of change" in the state between neighboring agents is further established;this connection facilitates a distributed algorithm for each agent to identify "favorable" neighbors to interact with. Multi-agent networks with and without external influence are examined, as well as extensions to signed networks. This paper underscores the utility of Laplacian eigenvectors in the context of distributed neighbor selection, providing novel insights into distributed data-driven control of multi-agent systems. Significant improvements to the dynamic DNA nano science have emerged in recent years, primarily due to the elaborate design of toehold-mediated DNA strand displacement (TMSD). However, it remains an ongoing challenge to design huge-scaled TMSD based sophisticated dynamic DNA structures without base-pair mismatching or unwanted secondary structures, because the sequence design complexity of TMSD will dramatically increase as the scale increases. Here we report a new polymerase triggered strand displacement (PTSD) mechanism to realize DNA strand displacement with the potential of constructing complicated dynamic DNA nanostructures. By employing proper polymerase with strand displacement activity, the target strand in a duplex will be displaced and freed during the polymerization. In this manner, DNA strand displacement takes place without considering the design complexity of branch migration domain. The mechanism was successfully applied in constructing one-layer and two-layer circuits in which the parameters involved were explored, suggesting that PTSD is feasible and able to be harnessed to construct cascading DNA circuits with high complexity. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Scaling properties of scale-free networks in degree-thresholding renormalization flows

We study the statistical properties of observables of scale-free networks in the degree-thresholding renormalization (DTR) flows. For BA scale-free networks with different sizes, we find that their structural and dynamical observables have similar scaling behavior in the DTR flow. The finite-size scaling analysis confirms this view and reveals a scaling function with a single scaling exponent that collectively captures the changes of these observables. Furthermore, for the scale-free network with a single initial size, we use its DTR snapshots as the original networks in the DTR flows, then perform a similar finite-size scaling analysis. Interestingly, the initial network and its snapshots share the same scaling exponent as the BA synthetic network. Our findings have important guiding significance for analyzing the structure and dynamic behavior of large-scale networks. Such as, in large-scale simulation scenarios with high time complexity, the DTR snapshot could serve as a substitute or guide for the initial network and then quickly explore the scaling behavior of initial networks. © 2021, CC BY.

Models of strategy evolution on static networks help us understand how population structure can promote the spread of traits like cooperation. One key mechanism is the formation of altruistic spatial clusters, where neighbors of a cooperative individual are likely to reciprocate, which protects prosocial traits from exploitation. But most real-world interactions are ephemeral and subject to exogenous restructuring, so that social networks change over time. Strategic behavior on dynamic networks is difficult to study, and much less is known about the resulting evolutionary dynamics. Here, we provide an analytical treatment of cooperation on dynamic networks, allowing for arbitrary spatial and temporal heterogeneity. We show that transitions among a large class of network structures can favor the spread of cooperation, even if each individual social network would inhibit cooperation when static. Furthermore, we show that spatial heterogeneity tends to inhibit cooperation, whereas temporal heterogeneity tends to promote it. Dynamic networks can have profound effects on the evolution of prosocial traits, even when individuals have no agency over network structures. © 2023, CC BY.

We theoretically investigate the transparency effect with a hybrid system composed of a photonic molecule and dipole emitter. It is shown that the transparency effect incorporates both the coupled resonator-induced transparency(CRIT) effect and the dipole-induced transparency(DIT) effect. It is found that the superposed transparency windows are consistently narrower than the CRIT and DIT transparency windows. Benefiting from the superposed transparency effect, the photonic Faraday rotation effect could be realized in the photonic molecule system, which is useful for entanglement generation and quantum information processing.

Electrospinning has exhibited excellent benefits to treat the trauma for tissue engineering due to its produced micro/nano fibrous structure. It can effectively adhere to the tissue surface for long-term continuous therapy. This paper develops a robotic electrospinning platform for endoluminal therapy. The platform consists of a continuum manipulator, the electrospinning device, and the actuation unit. The continuum manipulator has two bending sections to facilitate the steering of the tip needle for a controllable spinning direction. Non-circular joint profile is carefully designed to enable a constant length of the centreline of a continuum manipulator for stable fluid transmission inside it. Experiments are performed on a bronchus phantom, and the steering ability and bending limitation in each direction are also investigated. The endoluminal electrospinning is also fulfilled by a trajectory following and points targeting experiments. The effective adhesive area of the produced fibre is also illustrated. The proposed robotic electrospinning shows its feasibility to precisely spread more therapeutic drug to construct fibrous structure for potential endoluminal treatments. © 2021 IEEE

The dissemination of public opinion has a considerable impact on people's social lives, and the question of how both the government and the media can correctly guide public opinion and restore social stability is an issue that requires urgent attention. Combining the characteristics of public opinion dissemination in the network society leads to individual interaction. Considering the interaction between individual views and network topology, this paper combines the collaborative network model with the distance-constrained Hegselmann-Krause (HK) model to propose a consensus-guided strategy based on interaction constraints. It does this by changing the network topology and limiting the scope of individual interactions, thereby affecting the spread of public opinion. Based on the small-world network, the collaborative network model introduces the two parameters of Connection edge probability p and broken edge probability q, while also proposing a collaborative network model for Connection edge's breaking of the network based on the difference of individual opinion values. This paper designs simulation experiments by changing p, q, and the interaction distance, while also analyzing the results of public opinion's evolution from the perspectives of timeliness and the diversity of viewpoints. The experimental results show that when individuals are restricted from interacting with the surrounding environment and the scope of interaction between individuals is restricted, this will slow down the evolution of public opinion and increase the number of opinion clusters. By contrast, when it is encouraged, the interaction between individuals and the surrounding environment will make the entire system communicate more effectively within a short period of time, promoting the evolutionary benefits of public opinion considerably, shortening the convergence time of public opinion evolution to reach a steady state, and reducing the number of opinion clusters. Trajectory tracking and speed control for intelligent vehicles are put forward higher requirements on accuracy by the high traffic density scenario. A standard Model Predictive control (MPC) algorithm focuses on the trajectory tracking but ignores the speed control. This paper proposes a simultaneous trajectory tracking and speed control algorithm based on MPC approach to address fine control in both space and time dimensions for intelligent vehicles. A threefold cost function including lateral and longitudinal speed as well as comfort has been proposed to improve the control algorithm. The simulations and comparisons demonstrate that the proposed method has a better tracking and speed control performance than the existing method.

This paper revisits the stabilization problem of switched linear systems with time-varying delay via state dependent switching strategies. In contrast to the existing works, the commonly adopted stable convex combination assumption is relaxed in this paper. For switched systems satisfying the relaxed assumption, we design a state dependent switching strategy, under which the considered system is asymptotically stable at the origin in the presence of time-varying delay. An optimization problem is formulated to estimate the upper bound of tolerable time delay. Numerical examples are presented to show that our method is applicable to a larger class of switched systems and leads to greater delay bound.

GTNet: Generative transfer network for zero-shot object detection

We propose a Generative Transfer Network (GTNet) for zero-shot object detection (ZSD). GTNet consists of an Object Detection Module and a Knowledge Transfer Module. The Object Detection Module can learn large-scale seen domain knowledge. The Knowledge Transfer Module leverages a feature synthesizer to generate unseen class features, which are applied to train a new classification layer for the Object Detection Module. In order to synthesize features for each unseen class with both the intra-class variance and the IoU variance, we design an IoU-Aware Generative Adversarial Network (IoUGAN) as the feature synthesizer, which can be easily integrated into GTNet. Specifically, IoUGAN consists of three unit models: Class Feature Generating Unit (CFU), Foreground Feature Generating Unit (FFU), and Background Feature Generating Unit (BFU). CFU generates unseen features with the intra-class variance conditioned on the class semantic embeddings. FFU and BFU add the IoU variance to the results of CFU, yielding class-specific foreground and background features, respectively. We evaluate our method on three public datasets and the results demonstrate that our method performs favorably against the state-of-the-art ZSD approaches. Copyright © 2020, The Authors.
