Dual-lapping was a process to planarize the surface of the sapphire wafer, the nature of surface&subsurface damage and the surface uniformity was depended on the material removal mode and materials removal ratio. Material removal mode was studied in this paper, and the model of material removal was set up too. The SEM was used to scan the processed sapphire surface and the different removal style (two body and three body) were discovered. This research provided valuable insights into the material removal ratio and the dependence of lapping-induced damage on dual-lapping conditions, the asymmetry of abrasive granularity brought on the different materials removal mode and the surface asymmetry. The model was set up to qualitative analysis the material removal ratio in dual-lapping of sapphire, obtain the reasonable MMR and optimize the surface quality and the planarization result. © (2009) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this paper, the problem of the stability for a class of stochastic systems with time-varying delay is investigated. By dividing the delay interval into multiple segments and choosing different weighting matrices in the new LyapunovKrasovskii functional, the delay-dependent sufficient criterion is derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Neither model transformations nor bounding techniques for cross terms is employed, so the derived criterion is less conservative than the most existing results. Meanwhile, the computational complexity of the obtained stability conditions is reduced because less variables are involved. A numerical example is given to show the application of the proposed method.

A novel intelligent fault diagnosis model for flue gas turbine based on EMD (Empirical mode decomposition) and VPRS (Variable precision rough set) theories, is proposed in order to solve the difficult problems of knowledge information acquisition and improve fault diagnosis accuracy in practice. This model combines EMD and VPRS techniques. First EMD signal processing technique is employed to excavate the underlying fault information from dynamic signals. The features that reflect the equipment operation conditions from the EMD analysis of the dynamic original vibration signals are extracted and the series of IMFs (intrinsic mode function) feature sets are obtained. Then the energy features of the calculated IMFs are using as the condition attributes of the knowledge acquisition decision table while the fault modes are using as the decision attributes respectively. The decision table is deal with through the attributes' reduction, attributes' value reduction and the rules' reduction based on VPRS theory. The system fault diagnosis rules are extracted on the condition that the model classification ability remains and the redundancy information is removed. The model is applied for the flue gas turbine diagnosis knowledge acquisition and fault diagnosis in Yanshan. The desired diagnosis effect is obtained via the fault diagnosis model based on EMD and VPRS. Moreover, the application result also validates the power and the practice of the model.

For an oversampled linear phase (LP) perfect reconstruction filter banks with lattice structure, the synthesis FB is not unique. However, existing methods to choose a synthesis FB for ldquooptimalrdquo noise reduction may destroy the linear phase and lattice structure property. This paper studies the noise reduction design problem for oversampled filter banks (FBs) preserving lattice structure. Both the optimal design and worst case design are considered, where the former caters for the noise with known power spectral density (PSD), and the latter for the noise with unknown PSD. Explicit formula for the former and LMI-based algorithms for the latter are provided.

Home automation systems based on wireless sensor/actuator networks are characterized by diversity of node power sources, limited computational power, and mobility. We propose a routing protocol that fully uses the location of static nodes to limit the search for a route to a small zone based on the analysis of characteristics and requirements. The calculation of two different kinds of zone and the route discovery procedure are described in this paper. According to the environment of home automation, we compared the performance of our routing protocols with the ad-hoc on-demand distance-vector protocol using simulation and gave suggestions for zone selection. Simulation results showed that our routing protocol dramatically reduced the routing overhead and increased the reliability.

In most batch processes, quality control measurements cannot be completed before the next batch operation. Thus, the corrective step is often delayed by one batch or more. The uncertain duration of delay with stochastic characteristics can be treated as a random variable of unknown distribution. Coupled with inaccurate process models, the delay may lead to significant process output variations even with EWMA controllers. This paper proposes a new method of handling the uncertain metrology delay and its ensuing complications. The run-to-run controller is designed based on minimization of error entropy, and the probability density function of the tracking error can be estimated by the historical operation data. The simulation example demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Wireless body sensor network is employed into the coal mine rescue system. We present a multi-objective optimization methodology for self-organizing, adaptive wireless sensor network design and energy management, taking into consideration application-specific requirements, communication constraints and energy-conservation characteristics. We use genetic algorithm as the optimization tool. Simulation results show that this method can optimize the power management obviously to improve the network load balance, without lacking of network characteristics that are required by the coal mine rescue system.

In this paper, we try to present an improved effective segmentation algorithm for range images. Our work was partially motivated by the desire to overcome the drawbacks inherent to most of the algorithms known from the literature, which edge detection is mostly criticized for its tendency to produce non-connected boundaries and region-based techniques suffer from a number of problems, such as complex control structures, the selection of initial regions, the actual number of clusters and an over segmentation. It provides edge strength measures that have a straightforward geometric interpretation and supports a classification of edge points into several subtypes. We consider analysis of geometric properties of edge points as the key to solve the problem of image segmentation and propose a geometric model to deduce algorithm template. And we adopt morphological method to boundaries obtained in the edge map as to save much time. Experiments were performed in a popular range image database and the results were compared to five other traditional range image segmentation algorithms, demonstrating that it could achieve more edge information of the object and overcome the shortcoming of non-connected boundaries to a certain extent. It is proved to be correct and effective. © 2008 SPIE.

Entropy feature extraction on flow pattern of gas/liquid two-phase flow based on cross-section measurement

This paper introduces the fundamental of cross-section measurement system based on Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT). The measured data of four flow regimes of the gas/liquid two-phase flow in horizontal pipe flow are obtained by an ERT system. For the measured data, five entropies are extracted to analyze the experimental data according to the different flow regimes, and the analysis method is examined and compared in three different perspectives. The results indicate that three different perspectives of entropy-based feature extraction are sensitive to the flow pattern transition in gas/liquid two-phase flow. By analyzing the results of three different perspectives with the changes of gas/liquid two-phase flow parameters, the dynamic structures of gas/liquid two-phase flow is obtained, and they also provide an efficient supplementary to reveal the flow pattern transition mechanism of gas/liquid two-phase flow. Comparison of the three different methods of feature extraction shows that the appropriate entropy should be used for the identification and prediction of flow regimes.
