The high percentage of renewable energy sources presents unprecedented challenges to the flexibility of power systems, and planning for the system's flexibility resources has become a necessary research area. Thus, this study constructs a flexibility quota mechanism and a two-stage model for the optimal configuration of multi-energy system coupling equipment to satisfy the growing demand for flexibility in city-level electricity-gas-heat-storage coupling systems. First, it examines the relationship between supply and demand for system flexibility, leading to the design of a flexibility quota mechanism. Subsequently, the power supply method for communication base stations shifts from direct networking to a hydrogen fuel cell supply. This flexibility quota mechanism encourages communication operators to actively engage in flexibility quota trading. Simultaneously, the safety constraints of heterogeneous energy-[A1] flow subsystems are considered while conducting comprehensive capacity planning for the coupling equipment of a multi-energy system. Finally, an optimisation strategy is proposed under the established capacity planning scheme for determining the siting and capacity of energy storage plants to address the potential transmission blockage risk in the power network. The case analysis utilised the IEEE 14-node grid-7-node gas network-8-node heat network test system, demonstrating that the constructed model enhances the system economy and mitigates transmission blockage risk, while enhancing the flexibility adjustment capability of the city-level multi-energy coupled system. © 2024, The Authors. The increasing processing demands of information technology (IT) workloads cause the booming of data centers (DCs) in recent years. The servers in the DC emit much heat when processing the IT workloads and thus the DC temperature rises. The power consumption when controlling the DC temperature using the air conditioning (A/C) of the DC is high, which leads to expensive power bills. To reduce the power cost, using renewable energy (RE) to power DC has raised much attention in recent years. However, the intermittency of RE and the uncertainties of outside temperature pose operational challenges. Therefore, in this paper, a data-driven statistical-feasibility-based robust rolling optimization framework for the operation of hydrogen-DC microgrid (H2-DCMG) is proposed to control the DC temperature considering these uncertainties and the intermittency of RE. In the framework, the hydrogen energy storage system (HESS) is introduced to deal with the intermittency of RE, and robust optimization (RO) is adopted to deal with the uncertainty of outside temperature. The statistical feasibility is introduced into the framework to decrease the conservatism of RO, through relaxing the DC temperature constraints without harming normal DC operations. Moreover, we propose the Statistical-Guarantee-based Vertex Link (SGVL) algorithm to construct a polyhedron uncertain set of outside temperatures that can ensure the results of dispatch are economical and satisfy statistical feasibility. The constructed polyhedron uncertain set is linear, which reduces computational complexity in solving. A case study based on the real-world temperature dataset verifies the superiority of the SGVL algorithm on the aspect of the economic cost. It further validates the effectiveness of the proposed robust optimization framework for DC temperature control. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A distributed stochastic power flow algorithm for distribution network based on inter-region scenario equivalence is proposed for the problem that the power injection of each node needs to be simulated with a large number of samples in the distribution network stochastic power flow algorithm, thus causing low computational efficiency. Firstly, the distribution network is divided into a backbone region and several sub-regions according to its radial structure characteristics, and the sampled power samples are partitioned; secondly, based on the inter-region power flow coupling relationship, the inter-region power flow action is replaced with the effect on the boundary quantity; then, a scenario equivalence method is proposed to merge the power scenarios that cause the same boundary injected power and boundary voltage. Finally, a distributed algorithm for distribution network stochastic currents is designed, and each region can complete the distributed solution of distribution network stochastic currents through the exchange of boundary equivalence scenario information and internal calculation, and the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing time are verified in the IEEE123 node system calculation example.

The conventional pumping unit lacks the ability to continuously adjust input power during pumping operations, and exhibits poor adaptability when integrating new energy sources into the grid. In this study, we propose a novel “domain operation” strategy that allocates resources based on real-time reservoir conditions across all levels of hydropower stations, while optimizing operations through the implementation of doubly fed units.

The deep learning algorithm represented by CNN has achieved remarkable results in complex feature extraction, classification and regression. Since the CNN adopts an end-to-end training process, the carrier of acquisition knowledge is a high-dimensional non-linear function, which is hard to understand by humans. Therefore, it is difficult to be widely used in online decision-making engineering scenarios such as the fast assessment of power system transient voltage stability. In this paper, the key input elements extracted by CNN are identified by Grad-CAM, and the key features captured by CNN in the assessment process are enhanced based on AM, so as to finally obtain the visual expression of key areas and variables of the original input data. Besides, a sample construction method based on single line diagram is proposed to improve the visualization effect of Grad-CAM and AM. Simulation results and analyses of IEEE 39bus test system demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2021 IEEE.

Under the background of the increasing proportion of new energy power generation, the mismatch of “source-load” occurs between regions. To effectively improve the utilization rate of peaking resources and increase the amount of “source-load” matching, this paper proposes the optimal scheduling of multiregional peaking resources considering network currents. The strategy takes into account the impact of wind power penetration rate on the demand for peaking resources and connects the regions with different peaking characteristics using contact lines. It evaluates and iterates the peaking resources of each region in each time period and finds the optimal amount of peaking resources and the optimal output of thermal power units in each region. Through simulation, the results show that the proposed strategy effectively improves wind power consumption and system operation economy.

This paper examines the path of new energy development in China against the backdrop of carbon maximum and carbon neutralization, and studies the risk of large scale new energy power transmission. In order to solve the complex uncertainty challenges of renewables power and power grid expansion planning, this paper studies and proposes an optimal economic planning model, which includes the thermal power generation start-up and shutdown expenses during the operation, the hydro power generation expenses of surplus water of reservoir, and the curtail penalty cost of new energy output power, the investment of new planning lines. The model has also considered the constraints of balance for power generation and load consumption, the power change rate, and operation, which are calculated based on the time-series operation simulation of new energy power system. Based on the functions, the process of power grid planning technology has been proposed. The planning model proposed in this paper can consider the new energy power characteristics of generation, realize the optimal planning of different power grid schemes. According to the case study findings, the new transmission line can relieve the pressure of local new energy transmission, while also improving power flow distribution as well as the rate of new energy utilization. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

Bald Eagle Search Algorithm for Parameter Identification of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

A precise and reliable proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) parameter identification performs an essential function in simulation analysis, optimal control, and performance research of actual PEMFC systems. Unfortunately, achieving an accurate, efficient, and stable parameter identification can sometimes be problematic for traditional optimization methods, owing to its strong coupling, inherent nonlinear, and multi-variable characteristics. Therefore, an advanced bald eagle search (BES) algorithm is designed to dependably identify the unknown parameters of the electrochemical PEMFC model in this work. For evaluating and analyzing the overall optimization performance of the BES comprehensively, it is compared with the genetic algorithm (GA) based on MATLAB under three cases. According to the simulation results, the optimum root mean square error (RMSE) achieved by BES is 96.27% less than that achieved by GA in parameter identification, which fully indicates that the precision, accuracy, and stability of the optimization results can be remarkably improved via the application of BES.
