Experimental demonstration of quantum transport enhancement using time-reversal symmetry breaking on a silicon photonic chip

The continuous-time quantum walk is a basic model for studying quantum transport and developing quantum-enhanced algorithms. Recent studies show that by introducing a phase into the standard continuous-time quantum walk model, the time-reversal symmetry can be broken without changing the Hermitian property of the Hamiltonian. The time-reversal symmetry breaking quantum walk shows advantages in quantum transport, such as perfect state transfer, directional control, transport speedup, and quantum transport efficiency enhancement. In this work, we implement the time-reversal symmetry breaking quantum walks on a reconfigurable silicon photonic chip and demonstrate the enhancement introduced by breaking time-reversal symmetry. Perfect state transfer on a three-site ring, a quantum switch implemented on a six-site graph, and transport speedup using a linear chain of triangles are demonstrated with high fidelity. Time-reversal asymmetry has also been used in a simplified light-harvesting model,implying the potential of time-reversal symmetry breaking in photosynthesis investigations.

For the robotic arm to perform multi-task operations, the robotic arm operation requirements under the conditions of random multi-target operation points, safe obstacle avoidance, and reducing the rotation of joints as much as possible to reduce the wear and tear of robotic arm joints are considered, and the continuous path planning method for multi-target operations based on the configuration space is proposed. Firstly, by constructing the configuration space of robotic arm joints and dividing it into obstacle and free regions, searching continuous paths in the free region;on this basis, based on the TSP idea, using the minimum movement of robotic arm configuration in the free region as the transfer cost, the sequence planning method combining A ∗ algorithm and improved ant colony algorithm is used to solve the minimum value of the transfer cost and obtain the optimal operation sequence and robotic arm operation configuration, so as to obtain the continuous path with the least rotation of robotic arm to multiple target operation joints. © 2023 IEEE.

Coal dust is a fugitive and combustible pollutant leading to risks of both explosion and air pollution. Dust explosions are one of the most serious potential disasters in coal mining operations. A substantial literature on coal mine safety covers issues related to the origin, distribution, and transport of coal dust. This paper conducted a review of recent theoretical and experimental literature that are related to the current status and progress in coal dust management strategies. Empirical models and simulations have been used to investigate how dust concentration and particle sizes impact dust propagation in areas prone to dust production, such as mechanised mining faces. The key characteristics of coal dust that are vital for their generation, dispersion, and associated risks are summarised. Better understanding of these characteristics can lead to more effective control in coal dust and hence improved health outcomes for workers and reduced risks at an industry-wide level. Some gaps in the research literature were identified, such as those regarding dust-settling and dedusting. Current research efforts are primarily concentrated on systems, such as water injection, spray dust suppression, ventilation, and dust collector. The advantages and limits of different methods for dust management are compared. Biological dedusting, a novel technology that is still in its early stage, was also reviewed. The paper also discussed potential areas of future research that were needed. © 2024 The Institution of Chemical Engineers

In order to meet the demand for lightweight and miniaturization of satellite-based laser communication loads, a rotating dual-optical wedge turntable based on the risley prism is designed. Metric localization for lunar rovers via cross-view image matching

Accurate localization is critical for lunar rovers exploring lunar terrain features. Traditionally, lunar rover localization relies on sensor data from odometers, inertial measurement units and stereo cameras. However, localization errors accumulate over long traverses, limiting the rover’s localization accuracy. This paper presents a metric localization framework based on cross-view images (ground view from a rover and air view from an orbiter) to eliminate accumulated localization errors. First, we employ perspective projection to reduce the geometric differences in cross-view images. Then, we propose an image-based metric localization network to extract image features and generate a location heatmap. This heatmap serves as the basis for accurate estimation of query locations. We also create the first large-area lunar cross-view image (Lunar-CV) dataset to evaluate the localization performance. This dataset consists of 30 digital orthophoto maps (DOMs) with a resolution of 7 m/pix, collected by the Chang’e-2 lunar orbiter, along with 8100 simulated rover panoramas. Experimental results on the Lunar-CV dataset demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed framework. Compared to the second best method, our method significantly reduces the average localization error by 26% and the median localization error by 22%. © The Author(s) 2024.

If Toeplitz matrix is used for compression-aware ghost imaging, the imaging quality will be very low. In order to solve the problem, a new experimental scheme for ghost imaging is proposed in this paper. The scheme first extracts the Toeplitz matrix elements randomly and sparsely using a revolving matrix, and then modulates the illumination light field. The sampling is performed by using the Toeplitz matrix as a fixed matrix and another measurement matrix as a revolving matrix. The revolving matrix rotates around its center at a constant angular velocity. The fixed Toeplitz matrix is superimposed with the revolving matrix to form the optical field modulation matrix. The results of simulation experiments show that light field modulation scheme of the rotational random extraction of Toeplitz matrix can modulate the light field with more randomness. The use of this scheme in ghost imaging experiments results in high quality images with low distortion. © 2023 SPIE. All rights reserved.

Network traffic classification is crucial for network security and network management and is one of the most important network tasks. Current state-of-the-art traffic classifiers are based on deep learning models to automatically extract features from packet streams. Unfortunately, current approaches fail to effectively combine the structural information of traffic packets with the content features of the packets, resulting in limited classification accuracy. In this paper, we propose a graph neural network model for network traffic classification, which can well perceive the interaction feature of packets in traffic. Firstly, we design a graph structure for packets' flows to hold the interaction information between packets, which embeds both packet contents and sequence relationships into a unified graph. Secondly, we propose a graph neural network framework for graph classification to automatically learn the structural features of the packets' flows together with the packets' features. Extensive evaluation results on real-world traffic data show that the proposed model improves the prediction accuracy of improves the prediction accuracy by 2% to 37% for malicious traffic classification. © 2023 IEEE.
