Robust low-rank tensor factorization by cyclic weighted median

Low-rank tensor factorization(LRTF) provides a useful mathematical tool to reveal and analyze multi-factor structures underlying data in a wide range of practical applications. One challenging issue in LRTF is how to recover a low-rank higher-order representation of the given high dimensional data in the presence of outliers and missing entries, i.e., the so-called robust LRTF problem. The L1-norm LRTF is a popular strategy for robust LRTF due to its intrinsic robustness to heavy-tailed noises and outliers. However, few L1-norm LRTF algorithms have been developed due to its non-convexity and non-smoothness, as well as the high order structure of data. In this paper we propose a novel cyclic weighted median(CWM) method to solve the L1-norm LRTF problem. The main idea is to recursively optimize each coordinate involved in the L1-norm LRTF problem with all the others fixed. Each of these single-scalar-parameter sub-problems is convex and can be easily solved by weighted median filter, and thus an effective algorithm can be readily constructed to tackle the original complex problem. Our extensive experiments on synthetic data and real face data demonstrate that the proposed method performs more robust than previous methods in the presence of outliers and/or missing entries.

Sliding Mode Control of Fractional-Order Delayed Memristive Chaotic System with Uncertainty and Disturbance

In this paper, a simplest fractional-order delayed memristive chaotic system is proposed in order to control the chaos behaviors via sliding mode control strategy. Firstly, we design a sliding mode control strategy for the fractionalorder system with time delay to make the states of the system asymptotically stable. Then, we obtain theoretical analysis results of the control method using Lyapunov stability theorem which guarantees the asymptotic stability of the noncommensurate order and commensurate order system with and without uncertainty and an external disturbance. Finally,numerical simulations are given to verify that the proposed sliding mode control method can eliminate chaos and stabilize the fractional-order delayed memristive system in a finite time.

Mobile Edge computing (MEC) offers low-latency and high-bandwidth support for Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) applications. However, due to high vehicle mobility and finite communication coverage of base stations, it is hard to maintain uninterrupted and high-quality services without proper service migration among MEC servers. Existing solutions commonly rely on prior knowledge and rarely consider efficient resource allocation during the service migration process, making it hard to reach optimal performance in dynamic IoV environments. To address these important challenges, we propose SR-CL, a novel mobility-aware seamless Service migration and Resource allocation framework via Convex-optimization-enabled deep reinforcement Learning in multi-edge IoV systems. First, we decouple the Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem of service migration and resource allocation into two sub-problems. Next, we design a new actor-critic-based asynchronous-update deep reinforcement learning method to handle service migration, where the delayed-update actor makes migration decisions and the one-step-update critic evaluates the decisions to guide the policy update. Notably, we theoretically derive the optimal resource allocation with convex optimization for each MEC server, thereby further improving system performance. Using the real-world datasets of vehicle trajectories and testbed, extensive experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed SR-CL. Compared to benchmark methods, the SR-CL achieves superior convergence and delay performance under various scenarios. © 2025 IEEE.

Hybrid Control of Delay Induced Hopf Bifurcation of Dynamical Small-World network

In this paper, we focus on the Hopf bifurcation control of a small-world network model with time-delay. With emphasis on the relationship between the Hopf bifurcation and the time-delay, we investigate the effect of time-delay by choosing it as the bifurcation parameter. By using tools from control and bifurcation theory, it is proved that there exists a critical value of time-delay for the stability of the model. When the time-delay passes through the critical value, the model loses its stability and a Hopf bifurcation occurs. To enhance the stability of the model, we propose an improved hybrid control strategy in which state feedback and parameter perturbation are used. Through linear stability analysis, we show that by adjusting the control parameter properly, the onset of Hopf bifurcation of the controlled model can be delayed or eliminated without changing the equilibrium point of the model. Finally, numerical simulations are given to verify the theoretical analysis. © 2017, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

FaceBench: A Multi-View Multi-Level Facial Attribute VQA Dataset for Benchmarking Face Perception MLLMs

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in various tasks. However, effectively evaluating these MLLMs on face perception remains largely unexplored. To address this gap, we introduce FaceBench, a dataset featuring hierarchical multi-view and multi-level attributes specifically designed to assess the comprehensive face perception abilities of MLLMs. Initially, we construct a hierarchical facial attribute structure, which encompasses five views with up to three levels of attributes, totaling over 210 attributes and 700 attribute values. Based on the structure, the proposed FaceBench consists of 49,919 visual question-answering (VQA) pairs for evaluation and 23,841 pairs for fine-tuning. Moreover, we further develop a robust face perception MLLM baseline, Face-LLaVA, by training with our proposed face VQA data. Extensive experiments on various mainstream MLLMs and Face-LLaVA are conducted to test their face perception ability, with results also compared against human performance. The results reveal that, the existing MLLMs are far from satisfactory in understanding the fine-grained facial attributes, while our Face-LLaVA significantly outperforms existing open-source models with a small amount of training data and is comparable to commercial ones like GPT-4o and Gemini. A NEURAL MULTIGRID SOLVER FOR HELMHOLTZ EQUATIONS WITH HIGH WAVENUMBER AND HETEROGENEOUS MEDIA

In this paper, we propose a deep learning-enhanced multigrid solver for high-frequency and heterogeneous Helmholtz equations. By applying spectral analysis, we categorize the iteration error into characteristic and noncharacteristic components. We eliminate the noncharacteristic components by a multigrid wave cycle, which employs carefully selected smoothers on each grid. We diminish the characteristic components by a learned phase function and the approximate solution of an advection-diffusion-reaction (ADR) equation, which is solved using another multigrid V-cycle on a coarser scale, referred to as the ADR cycle. The resulting solver, termed Wave-ADR-NS, enables the handling of error components with varying frequencies and overcomes constraints on the number of grid points per wavelength on coarse grids. Furthermore, we provide an efficient implementation using differentiable programming, making Wave-ADR-NS an end-to-end Helmholtz solver that incorporates parameters learned through semisupervised training. Wave-ADR-NS demonstrates robust generalization capabilities for both in-distribution and out-of-distribution velocity fields of varying difficulty. Comparative experiments with other multigrid methods validate its superior performance in solving heterogeneous 2D Helmholtz equations with wavenumbers exceeding 2000. © 2025 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Publications. Anomaly detection is a common application of machine learning. Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection in particular is a semi-supervised anomaly detection technique where the detection method is trained only on the inlier (in-distribution) samples - unlike the fully supervised variant, the distribution of the outlier samples are never explicitly modeled in OOD detection tasks. In this work, we design a novel GAN-based OOD detection network specifically designed to protect a cyber-physical signal systems from novel Trojan malware called non-control data (NCD) attack that evades conventional malware detection techniques. Inspired in part by the classical locally most powerful (LMP) test in statistical inferences, the proposed LMP-GAN trains the OOD detector (discriminator) by generating OOD samples that are aimed at making maximal alteration to the inlier samples while evading detection. We experimentally compare the results to the state-of-the-art anomaly detection methods to demonstrate the benefits and the appropriateness of the LMP-GAN OOD detector. © 2025 IEEE.

Approximation operators based on vague relations and roughness measures of vague sets

Rough set theory and vague set theory are powerful tools for managing uncertain, incomplete and imprecise information. This paper extends the rough vague set model based on equivalence relations and the rough fuzzy set model based on fuzzy relations to vague sets. We mainly focus on the lower and upper approxima- tion operators of vague sets based on vague relations, and investigate the basic properties of approximation opera- tors on vague sets. Specially, we give some essential characterizations of the lower and upper approximation operators generated by reflexive, symmetric, and transi- tive vague relations. Finally, we structure a parameterized roughness measure of vague sets and similarity measure methods between two rough vague sets, and obtain some properties of the roughness measure and similarity measures. We also give some valuable counterexamples and point out some false properties of the roughness measure in the paper of Wang et al.

An image enhancement method based on improved fuzzy set

At present, in related image processing field, the fuzzy set theory has also gained more successful applications to some extent. The image processing based on the fuzzy theory is an important research area. The information loss brought by 3D object projection in 2D image plane makes the image have the ambiguity exist in essence, thus there exists ambiguity when defining image characteristics such as the border, area and texture, therefore, because of the complexity of the image itself, uncertainty and inaccuracy or ambiguity may occur in the different stages of the processing. The algorithm in this paper improves the degree of membership function to make it suitable for the image fuzzy enhancement. The membership function curve is S-shaped, and at the inflection point, the function value on the left side drops rapidly while the function value on the right side rapidly rises. There is certain symmetry about the inflection point, and the function inflection point position can be decided by changing function parameters, and better enhancement effect can be gained by a small amount of iteration. By the experimental simulation, it is verified that the enhanced color image by adopting the method in this paper is bright in color on the visual effect with moderate increasing proportion of brightness and contrast, and best color maintaining performance and minimum chromaticity change, and also the image information entropy is improved when compared with the original image data.
