In light of the problems associated with glare and halo effects in low-light images, as well as the inadequacy of existing processing algorithms in handling details, a glare suppression balance network based on unsupervised learning has been designed and implemented in this study. A network that perceives brightness through light decomposition has been proposed, and an illumination learning network has been designed. The idea of integration has been employed to form an unsupervised glare suppression balance network, aiming to tackle the issues of glare and the accompanying halo effects. Through objective and subjective evaluations of real images, it has been proven that the method introduced in this paper surpasses other methods in suppressing glare and enhancing the overall quality of low-light images. Furthermore, it has been shown to exhibit good performance and effectiveness in target detection. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The rapid growth of intelligent sensing capabilities and super computation power in 6G mobile communication systems has facilitated their application in diverse domains such as smart health, smart factories, and the industrial Internet of Things. Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), as a core technology, has merged with artificial intelligence (AI) to enable intelligent connectivity, leading to a paradigm shift in traditional communication modes. This paper presents a visionary design for an ISAC-oriented unified IoT architecture that integrates software-defined communication and super-intelligent agents. By leveraging dynamic adaptability, self-learning, and optimization, the ISAC system can intelligently and flexibly respond to evolving requirements and environments. The architecture is redefined into three layers: the hardware layer, the omniscient layer, and the application layer. Furthermore, a retrospective survey of ISAC technology development over the past decade is conducted, highlighting new design principles for AI-empowered networks and multi-modals that support "intelligent connectivity" across various application scenarios and reinforce the security of ISAC. This paper categorizes the related works according to the different layer structures of the proposed architecture, and some important physical and machine learning models are introduced. Additionally, we summarize the current technological bottlenecks associated with ISAC and propose future research directions and potential solutions that lay the foundation for the future development of secure and intelligent communication networks. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

Continual Semantic Segmentation (CSS) aims to continuously learn new classes while mitigating catastrophic forgetting. Existing CSS methods primarily address this challenge through knowledge distillation. While they focus on maintaining stability for old classes, this emphasis often restricts plasticity in learning new ones. In this work, we propose two plug-and-play methods to better balance stability and plasticity. First, for feature map distillation, we replace pixel-level constraints with statistical information extraction within a window, improving the learning of new classes while preserving structural integrity to overcome forgetting. Second, we use relative ranks of predictions to replace exact probabilistic values to loosen the constraints in the logit distribution of old classes. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our methods outperform state-of-the-art methods when integrating into several baselines across various CSS scenarios. © 2025 IEEE.

The increasing number of vehicular networking devices and application demands has made the limited computing and communication resources a significant challenge. The heuristic task offloading strategy mechanism was proposed to improve the efficiency of task offloading in vehicular networks. This strategy mechanism utilized the Nondominated Sorting Genetic Fireworks Algorithm (NSGFA) based on the characteristics of the problem, integrated consideration of the multi-target balance between system offloading costs and load balancing. Experimental data results demonstrate that this method performs well in reducing latency, energy consumption, and load balancing, effectively enhancing the quality of service for vehicular network users. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Efficient and fine-grained access control with fully-hidden policies for cloud-enabled IoT

Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption(CP-ABE) enables fine-grained access control on ciphertexts, making it a promising approach for managing data stored in the cloud-enabled Internet of Things. But existing schemes often suffer from privacy breaches due to explicit attachment of access policies or partial hiding of critical attribute content. Additionally, resource-constrained IoT devices, especially those adopting wireless communication, frequently encounter affordability issues regarding decryption costs. In this paper, we propose an efficient and fine-grained access control scheme with fully hidden policies(named FHAC). FHAC conceals all attributes in the policy and utilizes bloom filters to efficiently locate them. A test phase before decryption is applied to assist authorized users in finding matches between their attributes and the access policy. Dictionary attacks are thwarted by providing unauthorized users with invalid values. The heavy computational overhead of both the test phase and most of the decryption phase is outsourced to two cloud servers. Additionally, users can verify the correctness of multiple outsourced decryption results simultaneously. Security analysis and performance comparisons demonstrate FHAC's effectiveness in protecting policy privacy and achieving efficient decryption.

An Evolutionary Multitasking Algorithm for Efficient Multiobjective Recommendations

Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. Emerging applications have imposed stringent demands on Internet quality of service (QoS). To ensure that various data streams within different Internet services receive the appropriate QoS, advancements in flow classification technology, software-defined networking (SDN), and programmable network devices have enabled the network to identify user demands and precisely control fine-grained traffic routing quickly. Although significant progress has been made with these technologies, optimizing the transmission paths of business flows to meet diverse QoS requirements in real-time remains a challenge. To address this issue, this paper proposes a dual-channel fusion routing algorithm based on multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL-DCF). Implemented within an SDN architecture, the algorithm was experimentally validated in a Mininet environment using real network topologies and traffic trajectories. The results demonstrate that MARL-DCF can optimize routing paths according to the network environment, meet various QoS demands, and exhibit strong adaptability and reliability in complex scenarios such as link failures and traffic fluctuations. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Video object segmentation aims to extract 2D object masks by segmenting video frames into multiple objects, which is crucial in various practical applications such as medical imaging, etc.. However, traditional video object segmentation methods produce 2D masks, which are not suitable for 3D scenarios where depth information is essential, such as in robotic grasping, virtual reality, and autonomous driving, etc.. In this paper, we present a comprehensive review of 3D human mesh reconstruction (HMR) as an extension beyond 2D video object segmentation. We begin by reviewing the mainstream video object segmentation methods, then transition from 2D video object segmentation to 3D HMR. We further categorize recent HMR methods based on key characteristics that define this research field, including the type of model input and the use of statistical models. The advancement of the Industry 5.0 in information technology has led to increased interest in integrating edge-cloud cooperation with Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical system (CPS) designs. This integration effectively reduces service delays and provides real-time analysis feedback to physical spaces, attracting attention from both academia and industry. These advanced technologies enhance production system intelligence, their alignment with circular economy principles for promoting sustainability has been overlooked. To address this gap, this article proposes an intelligent sustainability evaluation strategy driven by edge-cloud cooperation, IoT, and CPS. The proposed approach aims to enhance production sustainability and intelligence through circular economy perspectives. It introduces improved gray relation analysis and deep clustering network techniques to extract meaningful insights from diverse indicators within the evaluation system. By analyzing relationships between different equipment and workshops, it provides an analytical method that enhances production efficiency while reducing energy consumption and resource waste. To further validate the proposed method, an illustrative example using a partner company’s production data demonstrates its accuracy. © 2014 IEEE.

Recently, vision transformer based multimodal learning methods have been proposed to improve the robustness of face anti-spoofing (FAS) systems. However, multimodal face data collected from the real world is often imperfect due to missing modalities from various imaging sensors. Recently, flexible-modal FAS (Yu et al. 2023) has attracted more attention, which aims to develop a unified multimodal FAS model using complete multimodal face data but is insensitive to test-time missing modalities. In this paper, we tackle one main challenge in flexible-modal FAS, i.e., when missing modality occurs either during training or testing in real-world situations. Inspired by the recent success of the prompt learning in language models, we propose Visual Prompt flexible-modal FAS (VP-FAS), which learns the modal-relevant prompts to adapt the frozen pre-trained foundation model to downstream flexible-modal FAS task. Specifically, both vanilla visual prompts and residual contextual prompts are plugged into multimodal transformers to handle general missing-modality cases, while only requiring less than 4% learnable parameters compared to training the entire model. Furthermore, missing-modality regularization is proposed to force models to learn consistent multimodal feature embeddings when missing partial modalities. Extensive experiments conducted on two multimodal FAS benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our VP-FAS framework that improves the performance under various missing-modality cases while alleviating the requirement of heavy model re-training. © 2004-2012 IEEE.
