We derive the Lorentz transformation matrix via the invariance of spacetime interval. The derivation is greatly simplified by using hyperbolic functions. The Lorentz scalar and the 4-vector are explained via the concept of relativistic covariance and the results are applied to relativistic mechanics. This paper helps to better understand the mathematical structure of special relativity, and may be useful for engineers working with relativistic applications such as satellite navigation and precision chronometry.

We derive the space rotational transformation matrices under two assumptions: the invariance of vector length and the allowance of infinitesimal rotation. The derivation is simple and concise by using trigonometric functions and the result is compared with previous studies. The method can be further generalized to derive the Lorentz transformation in spacetime.

Undirected graphs: Is the shift-enabled condition trivial or necessary?

It has recently been shown that, contrary to the wide belief that a shift-enabled condition (necessary for any shift-invariant filter to be representable by a graph shift matrix) can be ignored because any non-shift-enabled matrix can be converted to a shift-enabled matrix, such a conversion in general may not hold for a directed graph with non-symmetric shift matrix. This letter extends this prior work, focusing on undirected graphs where the shift matrix is generally symmetric. We show that while, in this case, the shift matrix can be converted to satisfy the original shift-enabled condition, the converted matrix is not associated with the original graph, that is, it does not capture anymore the structure of the graph signal. We show via a counterexample, that a non-shift-enabled matrix cannot be converted to a shift-enabled one and still maintain the topological structure of the underlying graph, which is necessary to facilitate localized signal processing. We have investigated the dynamics of a protomer coupled to two different decoherent environments,each in a configuration called the spin star *** the quantum mechanics method,in different situations,we obtain the analytical expressions for the transition probability in the protomer *** thermal equilibrium,there exist well-defined ranges of parameters for which decoherent interaction between the protomer and the environment assists energy transfer in the protomer system,while in pure quantum mechanics states,the decoherent interaction assists energy transfer for an eigenstate but against energy transfer for quantum mechanics *** particular,we also find that the dimerization of two bacteriochlorophylls in protomer can always assist energy transfer in certain parameter range,and in the appropriate spin bath energy,the efficiency of energy transport is sensitively depended on the temperature of environments.

Nonleaky and accelerated population transfer in a transmon qutrit

We propose a theoretical scheme for implementing nonleaky and accelerated population transfer with a transmon qutrit. For a transmon-regime artificial atom with weak level anharmonicity, the leakage effects on the target population transfer are considerable. Allowed by the level-transition rule, a two-photon resonant interaction can be obtained between the qutrit and microwave drivings. In the regime of large detuning, by adopting the technique of invariant-based inverse engineering, the population transfer with no leakage errors can be sped up drastically when compared with the adiabatic operation. Moreover, the accelerated operation is highly robust against decoherence effects. Thanks to these distinctive advantages, the proposed protocol could offer a promising avenue to optimal quantum operations on transmon artificial atoms.

A dessin is a 2-cell embedding of a connected 2-coloured bipartite graph into an orientable closed surface. A dessin is regular if its group of orientation- A nd colour-preserving automorphisms acts regularly on the edges. In this paper we study regular dessins whose underlying graph is a complete bipartite graph Km,n, called (m, n)-complete regular dessins. The purpose is to establish a rather surprising cor-respondence between (m, n)-complete regular dessins and pairs of skew-morphisms of cyclic groups. A skew-morphism of a finite group A is a bijection φ: A → A that satisfies the identity φ(xy) = φ(x)φπ(x)(y) for some function π : A → Z and fixes the neutral element of A. We show that every (m, n)-complete regular dessin D determines a pair of reciprocal skew-morphisms of the cyclic groups Zn and Zm. Conversely, D can be reconstructed from such a reciprocal pair. As a consequence, we prove that complete regular dessins, exact bicyclic groups with a distinguished pair of generators, and pairs of reciprocal skew-morphisms of cyclic groups are all in one-to-one correspondence. Finally, we apply the main result to determining all pairs of integers m and n for which there exists, up to interchange of colours, exactly one (m, n)-complete regular dessin. We show that the latter occurs precisely when every group expressible as a product of cyclic groups of order m and n is abelian, which eventually comes down to the condition gcd(m, φ(n)) = gcd(φ(m), n) = 1, where φ is Euler's totient function.05E18 (primary), 20B25, 57M15 (secondary) Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Assessing and characterizing oilseed rape freezing injury based on MODIS and MERIS data

The oilseed rape growing in the lower reaches of Yangtze River in China belongs to winter varieties and suffers the risk of freezing *** this research,a typical freezing injury event occurred in Anhui province was taken as a case study,the freezing damage degree of oilseed rape was assessed,and its development characteristics based on the vegetation metrics derived from MODIS and MERIS data were *** oilseed rape was mapped according to the decline of greenness from bud stage to full-bloom period,with the phenological phases identified adopting time-series *** was more sensitive to freezing injury compared with other commonly used vegetation indices(VIs)calculated using MODIS bands,e.g.,EVI,GNDVI and *** freezing damage degree employing the difference between post-freeze growth and the baseline level in adjacent damage-free growing seasons was *** remote sensing-derived damage levels were supported by their correlation with the cold accumulated temperatures at the county *** performance of several remote sensing indicators of plant biophysical and biochemical parameters was also investigated,i.e.,the photosynthetic rate,canopy water status,canopy chlorophyll content,leaf area index(LAI)and the red edge position(REP),in response to the advance of the freezing *** was found that the photosynthetic rate indicator—Photochemical Reflectance Index(PRI)responded strongly to freezing *** injury caused canopy water loss,which could be detected though the magnitude was not very ***-LAI showed a slow and lagging response to low temperature and restored rapidly in the recovery phase;additionally,REP and the indicator of canopy chlorophyll content—MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index(MTCI),did not appear to be influenced by freezing *** was concluded that the physiological functions,canopy structure,and organic content metrics showed a descending order of vulnerabilities to freezing injury.

The land subsidence caused by underground coal mining can lead to topographic change and cause a series of environmental problems such as soil erosion and vegetation degradation, etc. Research on the effects of soil erosion is of great significance to the ecological restoration and environmental protection of mining areas. This paper selected the Bulianta coal mine in Inner Mongolia as a research area. Based on GIS/RS technology, the change in the spatial patterns of soil erosion in the study area were quantitatively evaluated using the rule of mining subsidence and the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE). The results show that underground coal mining has a significant effect on terrain by changing the slope length and slope steepness (LS), vegetation growth was also affected by a trend of overall reduction. In general, soil erosion in the Bulianta mining area generally showed an increasing trend from pre-mining topography to surface subsidence after mining, both from the perspective of soil erosion area and the perspective of soil erosion quantity. © 2018 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

In college physics, cross product and pseudovector are always very confusing for most students. Here we explain from the bottom why cross product is defined as the mysterious determinant appeared in every textbook. Only middle-school knowledge of lever principle is required in the derivation. Furthermore, we introduce a strict definition of physical vector according to the transformation property under space rotation, and show explicitly that cross product of two real vectors is still a *** vector is a pseudovector due to its special transformation property under space inversion.
