Polyurethane (PU) is an ideal thermal insulation material due to its excellent thermal properties. The incorporation of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) capsules into Polyurethane (PU) has been shown to be effective in building envelopes. This design can significantly increase the stability of the indoor thermal environment and reduce the fluctuation of indoor air temperature. We develop a multiscale model of a PU-PCM foam composite and study the thermal conductivity of this material. Later, the design of materials can be optimized by obtaining thermal conductivity. We conduct a case study based on the performance of this optimized material to fully consider the thermal comfort of the occupants of a building envelope with the application of PU-PCMs composites in a single room. At the same time, we also predict the energy consumption of this case. All the outcomes show that this design is promising, enabling the passive design of building energy and significantly improving occupants' comfort. © 2023, CC BY.

The demand for multiphase flow measurement is widespread in petrochemical and other fields. Due to its small size, easy maintenance, and no moving parts, electromagnetic flowmeters are widely used in single fluid measurement. With the increasing application of traditional electromagnetic flowmeters in petrochemical and other fields, the problems of traditional electromagnetic flowmeters in multiphase flow measurement applications have been discovered. How to optimize the structure of the electromagnetic flowmeter and how to improve the measurement accuracy has become a new research focus. On the basis of a large number of literature studies, this research is based on the finite element method, and systematically studies the influence of multiphase flow on the weight function of electromagnetic flowmeters. Firstly, modeling the existence of non-conductive objects in the electromagnetic flowmeter. Secondly, analyze the weight function characteristics of the non-conductive objects on the electromagnetic flowmeter from two angles of different radii and different positions. The conclusions of this study can provide a certain reference basis for the electromagnetic flowmeter in the measurement of multiphase flow.

This paper describes a current-controlled voltage source for simulation of Josephson junction arrays. The I-V characteristics of different Josephson junction arrays are simulated using a micro-controller, which can then calculate and generate an expected voltage according to input parameters including the number of junctions, microwave frequency and power, etc. This simulator can serve as an educational tool; it can also help reduce development costs of various PJVS applications.

During organic waste composting, bulking agents are imperative additives to regulate physicochemical properties of fermentation materials. This paper focuses on the regulating characteristics of organic and inorganic bulking agents and systematically discusses their effects on microbial metabolism during composting. According to literature review, the physicochemical properties, e.g., moisture content, oxygen content, temperature and C/N ratio, are interrelated with bulking agents, and closely associated with microbial metabolism. Among organic bulking agents, lignocellulosic biomass, such as agricultural waste and green garden waste, are effective to optimize the moisture content and C/N ratio, construct internal voids for aeration and temperature balance. The holocellulose component also participates into microbial metabolism for heat production and nitrogen transformation. Due to the porous structure, electrical conductivity, and cation exchange capabilities, biochar is highlighted as a promising bulking agent, which interacts with essential nutrient cycles, promotes microbial development and decreases odor release during composting. In addition, inorganic bulking agents, such as zeolite and ceramsite, are also proved to significantly facilitate composting process, reduce gas emissions and boost microbial metabolism. Finally, it is recommended that further research can be conducted on the recyclable and functionalized properties of bulking agents, their application evaluation and biochemical pathway regulations during composting. This review aimed to provide a reference for future research and the application of bulking agents in composting.

The main indications for antibiotic use on dairy farms are mastitis. Recycled manure solids (RMS) are common bedding material for dairy cattle. The objective was to determine whether antibiotic use for mastitis, either short-term (treatment of clinical cases) or long-term (dry cow therapy) affected the microbiome and resistome in manure and RMS bedding. On a large-scale Chinese dairy farm with conventional administration of antibiotics, samples of cow manure and RMS bedding in 3 groups of cattle were analyzed in-depth with metagenomics. Antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) accounted for only 0.5% of the total gene content in manure but were 2.2% in RMS bedding. Cows with short-term antibiotic treatment had the most (n=96) unique antibiotic resistance ontologies whereas long-term antibiotic usage significantly increased the ARGs Shannon index in manure. After usage, the relative abundance of β-lactam, pleuromutilin, phenicol, and aminocoumarin genes in bedding increased significantly. Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidetes were predominant in manure and RMS bedding and were closely associated with ARGs. In addition, mupirocin resistance gene (mupA) was significantly increased. This work implicated bedding material as a potential source of ARGs on dairy farms and highlighted the potential for zoonotic transmission of ARGs from the dairy farm environment to humans. © 2023, The Authors. Chromatographic separation is an indispensable and important technology in the manufacturing process of chemical products and biomedicine. It uses the distribution differences of a compound in the stationary phase and mobile phase to achieve the separation of the mixture. It is of great value to study the separation process of substances by simulated moving bed chromatography. By digitally simulating the process of moving bed, we can observe the influence of parameter changes on substance analysis by chromatography, and then find out the law of substance separation, which can provide theoretical basis for scientific research of biopharmaceuticals. © 2020 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

In order to research the discharge properties of the direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC) with a molten metal anode, the experimental system with a reactor is designed and constructed. The reaction mechanisms at both anode and cathode are analyzed. The molten Sn and Sb are used as the anodic material for comparison. The cell performance of DCFC is tested before and after discharging in the battery mode and the carbon fuel mode, respectively. In the battery mode, due to the different states of metallic oxides, the current density is not degraded after discharging with the molten Sb anode, but sharply decreases with the molten Sn anode. On the contrary, the cell performance with Sb is much worse than that with Sn after discharging in the carbon fuel mode, which is result from the volatility of Sb together with the reduction of its oxide. The above studies will help to thoroughly understand the underlying mechanism of DCFC with a molten metal anode. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Non-destructive quality assessment of Korla fragrant pears requires precise determination of soluble solids content (SSC) and titratable acidity (TA). This study introduces an advanced dual-phase prediction model integrating Visible/Near-Infrared (Vis/NIR) spectroscopy with a Crested Porcupine Optimizer-enhanced Backpropagation neural network (CPO-BP) for simultaneous SSC and TA measurement. Comparative analysis demonstrated that Random Forest combined with Savitzky-Golay preprocessing and spectral feature selection achieved satisfactory performance, showing R_v² of 0.9130 for SSC and 0.8643 for TA with RPD of 3.5551 and 3.1199, respectively. The proposed CPO-BP model significantly outperformed conventional approaches, attaining optimal R_v² of 0.9309 for SSC and 0.9079 for TA in single-parameter prediction. For multi-task estimation, CPO-BP improved prediction accuracy by 4.9 % and 3.9 % over standard BP networks in SSC and TA quantification, respectively, and the iterative errors were reduced by one order of magnitude. Further evaluations revealed the accelerated convergence rate and enhanced robustness of CPO-BP when compared to particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, and whale optimization algorithm, and the root-mean-square error for cross-validation (RMSECV) was reduced by 4.36–12.14 %. In general, CPO-BP combined with Vis/NIR spectroscopy provides a robust, accurate, and efficient non-destructive method for dual-parameter prediction in Korla pears, offering broad applications in agricultural quality control systems. © 2025

The components usually are redundant and they are often connected to larger systems in series or in parallel. For large systems, the order estimation formulas of different types of components are very important which are deduced by collecting the data of overall faults. The estimation properties in the sense of probability are given. It is the asymptotic convergence of probability. Continue to improve variance estimator to achieve asymptotically minimum uniform variance estimator. This ensures the practicability of the theoretical formula. Further study uses computer simulation to estimate series and parallel systems in which the components are redundant, and it gives the specific handing framework. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
