With the rapid development of the fifth-generation(5G)wireless system,the explosive growth of transmitted data raises higher requirements for high-performance surface acoustic wave(SAW)devices as filters and duplexers.(100)AlN/(100)ZnO/diamond layered structures are theoretically simulated by finite element method(FEM)to investigate the Rayleigh SAW propagation properties,including phase velocity,electromechanical coupling coefficient K^(2),and temperature coefficient of frequency(TCF).Three types of layered structures with different interdigital transducers(IDTs)arrangements,which are IDTs/(100)AlN/(100)ZnO/diamond,(100)AlN/IDTs/(100)ZnO/diamond,and(100)AlN/(100)ZnO/IDTs/diamond structures,are considered in the *** results show that the Sezawa mode exhibits larger K^(2)than the other *** found that the(100)AlN/IDTs/(100)ZnO/diamond structure exhibited better SAW properties,including high K^(2)and appropriate phase velocity.

In phase interferometer direction finding methods, the angle of arrival (AOA) is calculated by measuring the phase difference generated by the propagation of microwave signals between antenna array elements. In the direction finding technique based on the power-phase mapping relationship of microwave photons, there exists a mapping relationship between the power of the output optical sidebands and the phase difference, allowing the AOA to be obtained by measuring the power of the carrier waveform or sidebands. To address the technical challenges of small antenna array spacing, this work proposes a novel approach where it greatly improves direction finding accuracy. The two beams of optical carriers carry the differential-mode component and the common-mode component of the phase difference of the microwave signals, respectively, i.e. After they are converted to electrical signals by the PD respectively, the power ratio (PR) of the two electrical signals is calculated. PR exhibits a mapping relationship with the AOA,thus it can be derived by calculating the angle of arrival. Based on this method, MATLAB simulation software is employed to investigate antenna array spacings of λ/8, λ/12, λ/16, λ/20, and λ/50, where λ is the wavelength of the microwave signals. The simulated direction finding accuracies are ±0.42°, ±0.63°, ±0.83°, ±1.1°, and ±2°, respectively. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed microwave photon direction finding system can meet the demand for high-precision direction finding with small antenna array element spacing. © 2024 SPIE.

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have shown great potential in visual tasks, yet they face challenges in effectively constructing and processing graphs. Vision GNN (ViG) was developed to tackle these issues by segmenting images into patches treated as nodes, with edges formed by connecting the nearest semantic neighbors. However, relying solely on semantic information for graph construction confines itself to a dispersed distribution of object neighbors, leading to inadequate graph processing. To address this issue, we propose Vision DualGNN(VDG), a novel dual graph neural network architecture that leverages both spatial and semantic information to construct and process graph representation of images. We apply a node encoder that transforms image patches into expressive node features. Additionally, we implement a dual-stream GNN that operates on both a spatial graph and a semantic graph. The spatial graph serves as a constraint for the semantic graph, enhancing the node features with spatial awareness. To verify the validity of our architecture, we have conducted our experiments on the ImageNet and CIFAR-100 datasets. Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) is a crucial technique for selecting high quality images, which are vital for reliable diagnosis, effective algorithms, and ensuring an optimal visual experience for users. Due to full-reference and reduced-reference IQA methods require reference images, the demand for no-reference (NR-IQA) techniques is more pronounced in practical scenarios. In recent years, NR-IQA models based on Convolutional Neural Networks have achieved significant success. However, existing methods treat image regions uniformly, contradicting the trend of the human visual system to prioritize attention to salient areas. Inspired by the Human Visual System (HVS), we propose the hypothesis that different regions contribute differently to perceived image sharpness, with significant regions exerting a greater influence on quality assessment. To validate this hypothesis, we conducted subjective experiments, revealing that applying the same degree of blur to foreground and background regions results in different quality degradations. Based on this observation, we introduce A Saliency-Aware NR-IQA Method by Fusing Distortion Class Information(SADCIQA). A hierarchical saliency aware module is designed to obtain weighted fusion of features from different regions of the image. Additionally, we employ a self-supervised method to train a quality aware module to extract image quality features. SADCIQA emphasizes salient regions while reducing the contribution of background areas, aligning quality predictions with subjective judgments. We conducted experiments on six datasets, demonstrating that our approach achieved state-of-the-art performance in both synthetic and real distortions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Photoacoustic imaging is a kind of rapidly advancing noninvasive detection technology based on the photon-induced-acoustic effect, which holds the significant potential applications in the biomedical imaging diagnosis field. This technique merges the high contrast capabilities of optical imaging with the deep penetration and high resolution of acoustic imaging. In our work, to study the interaction mechanisms and photoacoustic effects between pulsed laser and capillaries in skin tissue, finite element analysis (FEA) based on COMSOL multiphysis software was employed. Based on the established finite element bio-tissue model, the photoacoustic effect was fully and completely represented as a sequence of light absorption, thermal expansion, and ultrasound wave generation in the bio-tissue, involving the coupling of multiple physical fields and the numerical resolution of partial differential equations. Moreover, in our study, the effects of varying induced wavelengths, capillaries depths in tissue, and absorber sizes on the time-domain photoacoustic signals and photoacoustic intensity were numerical investigated. Numerical results show that the blood in capillaries has stronger photoacoustic effect in the visible light waveband due to the characteristic absorption of hemoglobin in capillaries. The photoacoustic intensity decreases with the increase of capillary radius and depth. To validate the availability of the numerical simulation, the corresponding photoacoustic experiments were performed. In the experiments, we constructed a photoacoustic microscopy detection system and experimentally studied the photoacoustic effects of several influence factors. The experimental results confirm the accuracy of our numerical simulations and provide theoretical insights for future applications of vascular or capillaries photoacoustic imaging in the biomedical field. © 2025 SPIE.

Modeling of beam ions loss and slowing down with Coulomb collisions in EAST

This paper uses the implicit Monte–Carlo full-orbit-following parallel program ISSDE to calculate the prompt loss and slowing down process of neutral beam injection(NBI)-generated fast ions due to Coulomb collisions in the equilibrium configuration of Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST).This program is based on the weak equivalence of the Fokker–Planck equation under Rosenbluth Mac Donald Judd(RMJ)potential and Stratonovich stochastic differential equation(SDE).The prompt loss with the LCFS boundary and the first wall(FW)boundary of the two co-current neutral injection beams are *** results indicate that the loss behavior of fast ions using the FW boundary is very different from that of the LCFS boundary,especially for fast ions with a large gyration *** to our calculations,about 5.11%of fast ions generated by perpendicular injection drift out of the LCFS and then return inside the LCFS to be captured by the magnetic *** prompt loss ratio of fast ions and the ratio of orbital types depend on the initial distribution of fast ions in the Pζ–Λ*** the effect of Coulomb collisions,the pitch-angle scattering and stochastic diffusion happens,which will cause more fast ion *** short time scales,among the particles lost due to collisions,the fraction of banana ions reaches 92.31%in the perpendicular beam and 58.65%in the tangential beam when the fraction of banana ions in the tangential beam is 3.4%of the total ions,which means that the effect of Coulomb collisions on banana fast ions is more *** long time scales,the additional fast ion loss caused by Coulomb collisions of tangential and perpendicular beams accounted for 16.21%and 25.05%of the total particles,*** have also investigated the slowing down process of NBI fast ions.

Recently, three-dimensional (3D) cultured tumor spheroid models have been widely used in biological research fields to address the limitations of 2D cultured cells. Tumor spheroids can exhibit remarkable variability in multiple parameters including morphology, size, growth rate, metabolism, and cytotoxicity, which may caused by the different culture conditions. Therefore, novel methods to characterize tumor spheroids are in high demand to overcome the limitations of conventional methods, such as time-consuming procedures and unsatisfactory reproducibility in living cells. Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) is an effective method to quantitatively analyze cellular metabolism and molecular environment. In this study, we applied FLIM method to classify tumor spheroids into large spheroids and small spheroids. Results showed that both types of tumor spheroids had inner and outer layers. The fluorescence lifetime values of the outer layer and the inner layer of the small tumor spheroids were in the range of 2500-2800 ps and 2300-2500 ps, respectively. The fluorescence lifetime values of the outer layer of the large tumor spheroids were in the range of 2500-2800 ps, close to those of the small tumor spheroids. By contrast, the lifetime values of the inner layer of the large tumor spheroids were around 2500-2800 ps, which were significantly higher than those of the inner layer from the small ones. The difference of the fluorescence lifetime values between the inner layers of the small and the large spheroids may indicate the different metabolic states of these two types of tumor spheroids, suggesting FLIM method can provide quantitative data to characterize tumor spheroids with different sizes, leading to a non-invasive real-time evaluation method in further drug development of anti-tumor therapy. © 2025 SPIE.

Modified basalt material reinforced organic coatings: A review

Natural basalt can be processed into rod-like basalt fibers(BFs) and flake-like basalt scales(BSs) through high-temperature melting, forming and other processes. BFs and BSs have great application prospects in the field of organic coatings. BFs possess a regular rod-like structure and excellent mechanical properties, which are mainly used to enhance the mechanical properties of organic coatings. BSs possess a relatively irregular flake-like structure, which can form “maze” effects and layered structures to enhance corrosion resistance of organic coatings. However, basalt materials have poor compatibility, adhesion, and dispersion in organic resins due to their chemical inertness, resulting in a weak basalt-resin interface. Basalt-resin interface is an important parameter that determines the service performance of basalt composite coatings. Therefore, it is necessary to improve basalt-resin interface through corresponding strategies, such as chemical etching, chemical grafting and plasma treatment. Firstly, the surface modification strategies for improving basalt-matrix interface were summarized in this paper. Secondly, we discussed the effects of BFs and BSs on corrosion resistance of organic coatings and corrosion protection mechanism of composite coatings. Finally, we reviewed the research progress of modified basalt materials reinforced organic coatings.

Miscible disordered block copolymers(BCPs)are rarely studied due to the limits in self-assembly into ordered ***,we proposed a facile method for the transformation of disordered miscible BCPs to comb-like BCPs with well-ordered microphase separation structures via blending with amphiphilic *** this work,poly(4-vinyl pyridine-b-hydroxybutylacrylate)(P4VP-b-P4HBA)was applied as a model of miscible disordered BCPs and the microphase separation was induced via blending with surfactants of dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid(DBSA)and 3-pentadecylphenol(PDP).The ordered microstructures including spherical and cylindrical morphologies were confirmed by transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and small angle X-ray scattering(SAXS)*** ordered microstructures thermal sensitive,in which ordered and disordered transformation(ODT)was observed in the blend of P4VP-b-P4HBA and PDP whereas it disappeared in the blend of P4VP-b-P4HBA and *** results show that the thermal stability of the ordered microstructures are strongly depends on the interactions between the miscible BCPs and surfactants,which investigated by in situ SAXS and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR).The combination of miscible BCPs and surfactant creates a feasible strategy to fabricate ordered nanostructures,which could be employed to develop complicated nanomaterials.

Polymer solar cells(PSCs)consisting of a polymer donor and a small molecular acceptor is a promising photovoltaic technology,whose device performance is determined by both polymer donor and small molecular *** atoms such as fluorine or chlorine atoms were usually introduced onto the polymer donors to downshift the highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO)energy levels and improve the open-circuit voltage(VOC)of the ***,the introduction of the halogen atoms especially fluorine atoms greatly complicates the polymer ***,we report the use of a structural simple and easily synthesized building block,3,4-dicyanothiophene(DCT),to construct a set of halogen-free polymer donors PBCNTx(x=25,50,75)via ternary random *** introduction of DCT units not only simplified the synthesis,but also downshifted the HOMO energy levels of the polymers and improved the V_(OC) of PSCs ***,the PBCNT75 afforded a power conversion efficiency up to 15.7%with a V_(OC) of 0.83 V,which are among the top values for halogen-free polymer *** work shows that the introduction of DCT units is a simple yet effective strategy to construct halogen-free and low-cost polymer donors for high-performance PSCs.
