TlBa_2 Ca_2 Cu_3 O_9(Tl-1223) films have promising applications due to their high critical temperature and strong magnetic flux pinning. Nevertheless, the preparation of pure phase Tl-1223 film is still a challenge. We successfully fabricate Tl-1223 thin films on LaAlO_3(001) substrates using dc magnetic sputtering and a post annealing two-step method in argon atmosphere. The crystallization temperature of Tl-1223 films in argon is reduced by 100℃ compared to that in oxygen. This greatly reduces the volatilization of Tl and improves the surface morphology of films. The lower annealing temperature can effectively improve the repeatability of the Tl-1223 film preparation. In addition, pure Tl-1223 phase can be obtained in a broad temperature zone,from 790℃ to 830℃. In our study, the films show homogenous and dense surface morphology using the presented method. The best critical temperature of Tl-1223 films is characterized to be 110 K, and the critical current J_c(77 K, 0 T) is up to 2.13 × 106 A/cm^2.

Gas sensor Detecting 3-Hydroxy-2-butanone Biomarkers: Boosted Response via Decorating Pd Nanoparticles onto the {010} Facets of BiVO4 Decahedrons (vol 5, pg 2620, 2020)

The newly emerged gas sensing detection of 3-hydroxy-2-butanone (3H-2B) biomarker is deemed as an effective avenue to indirectly monitor Listeria monocytogenes (LM). However, 3H-2B sensing materials requiring critically high sensitivity and selectivity, and ppb-level detection limit, remain challenging. Here, we report the advanced gas sensors built with bismuth vanadate microdecahedron (BiVO4 MDCD) {010} facets selectively decorated with Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs, Pd-{010}BiVO4 MDCDs) for boosted detection of the 3H-2B biomarker. Meanwhile, BiVO4 MDCDs with overall facets are randomly deposited with Pd NPs (Pd-BiVO4 MDCDs). Comparatively, Pd-{010}BiVO4 MDCD sensors show 1 order of magnitude higher response toward the 3H-2B biomarker at 200 °C. Further, Pd-{010}BiVO4 MDCD sensors enable to detect as low as 0.2 ppm 3H-2B and show best selectivity and stability, and fastest response and recovery. Density functional theory calculations reveal a lower adsorption energy of 3H-2B onto Pd-{010}BiVO4 MDCDs than those of pristine and Pd-BiVO4 MDCDs. The extraordinary Pd-{010}BiVO4 sensing performance is ascribed to the Pd NP-assisted synergetic effect of the preferential adsorption of 3H-2B target molecules, accumulated sensing agent of ionic oxygen species, and concentrated catalysts on the {010} facets. This strategy offers rapid and noninvasive detection of LMs and is thus of great potential in the upcoming Internet of Things.

Laser-tuned whispering gallery modes in silica microbubble resonator integrated with iron oxide particles

A 473-nm-laser-tuned whispering gallery mode(WGM) silica microbubble resonator integrated with iron oxide particles is demonstrated in this paper. Owing to the photo-induced thermal effect, the WGM resonance wavelength could be tuned by adjusting laser power density of the illuminating light absorbed by the iron oxide particles. A wavelength tuning sensitivity of 0.03 nm/(mW·mm^(-2)) and a tuning range of 0.18 nm are experimentally achieved. Moreover, the influence of ambient temperature on the WGM spectral characteristics is experimentally studied, and a silica-microbubble-based reference scheme is demonstrated to compensate for the temperature-caused resonance wavelength variation. The proposed laser-tuned microresonator has great potential in optical modulation and high-precision optical filtering applications.

An electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) in metamaterial resonator with two bright modes and one dark mode at the terahertz(THz) band is numerically and experimentally demonstrated. Different from two kinds of the traditional passive modulations, our design can realize the passive modulation of EIT phenomenon by adding another bright mode resonator. Simulated and experimental results show that the transmission peak varies for incident THz waves with different polarization directions due to its asymmetric structure, which provides a novel way to realize high efficiency switch and modulation.

A high-sensitivity strain FPI with a super-short 1.24 μm F-P cavity has been proposed in this paper, the F-P cavity is generated by an optimized fusion splicing of SMF and a section complete collapsed PCF. The experimental results exhibit that the wavelength of reflected interference spectrum is high sensitivity to axis force, and the strain sensitivity is high up to 60.7 pm/μϵ. The proposed strain sensor is anticipated to find potential applications in weak strain field detection, and moreover the immunity to temperature and surrounding refractive index ensures its applicability in temperature-fluctuated environments. © 2018 IEEE.

For the first time, we used the DFT technology to detect the collision process of single soliton and soliton molecules. Our work reveals the complete dynamic process of elastic collision of single soliton and soliton molecule, especially the soliton molecule disintegrating and the reform of soliton molecule. Numerical simulation shows that gain dynamics is the main physical origin of collision. Our investigations illustrate the particle nature of soliton and supplements the previous research of soliton collision dynamics. © Optica Publishing Group 2021

We propose and demonstrate the generation of multiwavelength fiber lasers via four-wave mixing in a dual wavelength Brillouin laser cavity. Using four-wave mixing effect in highly nonlinear fiber loop, the output wavelengths with100 nm range and tunable wavelength interval is achieved. In addition, due to the stimulated Brillouin effect, the linewidth of the output Brillouin laser reaches 440Hz. © 2022 SPIE

An unsensitive-bending Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure is proposed to detect the Clostridium alpha toxin by using single-mode fiber dislocation fusion. A standard single-mode fiber (SMF) is offset laterally and spliced between two SMFs to form the U-shaped microcavity in the middle, which is used for sensing. The MZI structure is encapsulated with capillary tube and injected with pure water, and the temperature sensitivity is tested in the temperature range of 26-50 ℃. The temperature sensitivity of MZI is 0.78nm/℃, which ensures its practicability in the environment of temperature fluctuation. The axial tension and radial strain of MZI structure are measured. The weight range of the load is 10 to 60g. The experimental results show that the sensitivity of axial tension is -30.43 nm/N and the sensitivity of radial pressure is only -1.54 nm/N. The sensitivity of axial tension is about 20 times of radial pressure sensitivity. In the subsequent sensing experiments, axial fixation is needed to ensure the stability of MZI, the effect of radial pressure can be ignored under certain circumstances. Finally, the bending insensitive interferometer is used to detect the Clostridium alpha toxin, The sensing properties of MZI structure at concentrations of 20, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 were studied. When the concentration is 20, the peak wavelength shift of the transmission spectrum can reach to 4.25 nm. Therefore, the proposed unsensitive-bending sensor has the advantages of high refractive index sensitivity, small size and low cost, which has a good prospect in biosensor applications. © 2021 IEEE.
