In this paper, we denote a color image by a quaternion function, then find edge points by solving the maximum of quaternion fractional directional differentiation(QFDD)'s norm. This method is called edge detection based on QFDD. Experiments indicate that the method has special advantages. Comparing with Canny, LOG, Sobel, and general fractional differentiation, we discover that QFDD has fewer false negatives in the textured regions and is also better at detecting edges which are partially defined by texture, which means we will obtain better results in the interesting regions by QFDD and these results are more consistent with the characteristics of human visual system.

An efficient algorithm is presented to label the connected components in the case that the primary memory is smaller than the image data. Our algorithm uses only the memory of two image rows to label the huge image or any image larger than the available memory. The search path compression is a applied for improving the performance further. An extensive comparison with the state-of-art algorithms is proposed, both on random and real datasets. Our algorithm shows an impressive speedup, while the auxiliary memory is not required at all comparing with all competitors.

AID object is a segment with several known-distance markers, and calibration methods with ID objects are more flexible than those with 2D/3D objects. Under the pinhole camera model, it is proved that the calibration with free-moving ID objects is not possible. For a central catadioptric camera setup, can the camera be calibrated by a ID object under general motions? In this paper, we prove that a central catadioptric camera can indeed be calibrated, and propose a catadioptric camera calibration method using ID objects undertaking general motions. The proposed method consists of two steps. Firstly, the principal point is calculated with geometric invariants under catadioptric camera model; Secondly, we use images of ID object to calibrate the focal lengths, skew factor and mirror parameter. The method needs neither prior knowledge of catadioptric parameters nor conic fitting, and it is linear, which makes it easy to implement. Experiments demonstrate its usefulness and stability.

We present a modified Temporal Conditional Random Fields framework for modeling and predicting object motion. To facilitate such a powerful graphical model with prediction and come up with a CRF-based predictor, we propose a set of new temporal relations for object tracking, with feature functions such as optical flow (calculated among consequent frames). We evaluate our proposed Temporal Conditional Random Field method with real and synthetic data sequences and will show that the TCRF prediction is nearly equivalent with result of template matching. Experimental results show that our proposed method estimates future target state with zero error until target dynamic changes. Our proposed modified CRF method with simple and easy to implement feature functions, can learn any target dynamic, thus, it can predict next state of target with zero error.

The Connected TV can be described as an Internet enabled TV. In the current paper we have proposed a system for connected TV that mash up the information from internet and RSS feeds related to the breaking news aired over the TV. The proposed system initially localize the text regions from the streamed video in hybrid mode, then recognize them and spot the key words and finally fetch the related information from Internet. Our experimental results show that the localization of the text regions from the video can work with no misses but have some false positives which are taken care by data semantic analysis. The errors of the Optical Character recognition (OCR) module are taken care by using string comparing techniques like longest common subsequence matching and Leveinsthein distance while matching with the RSS feed or internet.

In this paper, a novel method of fingerprint minutiae extraction on grey-scale images is proposed based on the Gabor phase field. The novelty of our approach is that the proposed algorithm is performed on the transform domain, i.e. the Gabor phase field of the fingerprint image. This is different from most existing minutiae extraction methods, in which the minutiae are usually extracted from the binarized and thinned fingerprint image. Experimental results on benchmark data sets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has promising performances.
